‘He threw a pencil at me': Arjan Bajwa recalls ex-Raymond chairman, producer Vijaypat Singhania launching him; how he weathered feud with son Gautam Singhania

Indian Express28-05-2025

Actor Arjan Bajwa recently spoke about his association with Vijaypat Singhania, ex-Chairman and Managing Director of the Raymond Group. The actor recalled his first meeting with the business tycoon on the sets of his debut Hindi film Woh Tera Naam Tha, which marked Vijaypat Singhania's first production venture. In a recent interaction, Arjan also shared the deep bond he shares with Singhania, a relationship that has continued to this day, despite the latter facing a tough time after his fallout with his son Gautam Singhania.
Speaking to Siddharth Kannan about his first encounter with Vijaypat Singhania, Arjan shared, 'During the audition of Woh Tera Naam Tha, I was standing in front of the camera and was surrounded by people who were telling me what to do, and I see a man standing behind the camera and I am trying to figure out where have I seen him before? He was standing, wearing a safari suit and smiling at everyone. I thought to myself, 'Is that Vijaypat Singhania?' I was thinking what is he doing at auditions.'
He went on to say, 'Somebody then made me meet Vijaypat Singhania and I got to know that he is the producer of the film. I was confused as to why is he producing our film? Then I got to know that he has entered film production and this film is his debut as a producer. Then I realised this a big team.'
Recalling their first conversation and how Singhania schooled him, Arjan shared, 'Vijay ji asked me where all I have travelled and I told him. He is a very intelligent man. He asked me where is Monaco? And I thought he is asking about Macao. I told him 'near Hong Kong' and he had a pencil in his hand and he threw that pencil at me. I got scared. Then I realised he has a lot of knowledge and we started talking about the world, travel and aviation. We would sit for hours and talk while the shoot was on. He would draw diagrams for me, so a lot that I know about aviation is because of him.'
For the unversed, Vijaypat Singhania had a feud with his son Gautam Singhania after he gifted his entire 37.17 percent stake in Raymond to him in 2015. However, in 2017, tensions between the two arose after Vijaypat Singhania alleged being denied possession of the duplex at JK House, the Singhania family-owned property in South Mumbai. A report in The Economic Times claimed that Vijaypat Singhania had to live in rented accommodation in Mumbai, and that the once-prominent industrialist no longer owned a car or had a driver.
Despite Vijaypat Singhania's strained relationship with his son, Arjan revealed that he has stayed in touch with the veteran industrialist. He shared, 'I think everybody knows about it but considering that it is a family matter, I leave it at that. He is doing good, I went to his house, I keep visiting him. A while back I had asked him something about aviation and he took my class for one hour, explaining me things on paper.' When asked if Vijaypat Singhania gets emotional after his fallout with his son, Arjan responded, 'No, he is a very strong man.'

Sonali Bendre breaks silence viral videos with Raj Thackeray and gossip around it, reveals if he ever had a crush on her: 'There are families involved, it's not in good taste'

Sonali Bendre and Raj Thackeray were spotted at an event together and people went crazy with the video edits. They compared Sonali and Raj's new video with their old one when they welcomed Michael Jackson to India. Many people speculated that the politician always had a crush on her and some even speculated about rumours that they were together earlier. The internet clearly didn't keep calm. The 'Sarfarosh' actress has finally broken silence on these viral videos and her connection with Thackeray and his family. When asked about these videos which claimed that Raj allegedly has a crush on her, Sonali said, "Did he… I doubt it," and she further clarified, 'I was talking to my sister who was right there." Criticising all the gossip and chatter, she said, "I don't know. I mean, a lot of people… I think it's just not in very good taste when people talk about it like that. First of all, I mean, there are families involved and people involved in all of that." She further explained how her family and Raj's family are connected for many years now. She explained, "Other than the fact that my brother-in-law and my sister… my brother-in-law who's a cricketer and hence used to play cricket with Raj's cousin… Sister's husband and they always played together. Secondly, my sister's mother-in-law was the head of the department that taught us English literature in the (Ramnarain) Ruia College, which I'm from. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like เทรดทองCFDs กับโบรกเกอร์ที่เชื่อถือได้ | เรียนรู้เพิ่มเติม IC Markets สมัคร Undo " She added, "So they all knew each other. For me, the connection was that Sharmila, Raj's wife, her mother, and my Maasi were best friends. Her mother has held me for 10 days because you know how, oh, her, my mother's younger sister, Maasi. So when she delivered Raj, they all came laughing. Oh, her elder sister's baby. Let's go and see the baby. They've come to the hospital and seen me. So literally, that's the kind of connection. " She added further, "I've always travelled around… It's not something that I know them beyond a point because I came into Maharashtra only once in two years during summer holidays or something like that." Sonali also said that she has no ambition to get into politics. "I think you need a lot of very thick skin for it, which I don't have… and I'm not politically correct… unfortunately." Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman collaborate to be co-owners, and it's not for a movie

Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman are collaborating again - and it's not for a movie. Deadpool and Wolverine have officially become the co-owners of Australia's SailGP team. Reynolds, who is also a co-owner of the Welsh football club Wrexham, along with Jackman, joined the driver and CEO Tom Slingsby on Thursday to rebrand the successful team, which won three championships in four seasons. The team will be called as BONDS Flying Roos, along with the partnership with the Australian undergarments company BONDS, according to Euro News. The joint statement by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman 'We're incredibly excited to set sail together in this new adventure. Hugh brings a deep love for and pride in his home country, as well as being an avid fan of sailing. He will also be bringing his overly clingy emotional support human [Ryan Reynolds] along for the ride. Apologies in advance to Australia. No comment on whether we're writing this in our BONDS. No further questions,' the Hollywood stars gave an official joint statement. Tom Slingsby is elated with the transition... Slingsby said that the 'Deadpool and Wolverine' stars on board are an incredible milestone for them and the sport. Calling them icons, he stated that the actors would bring 'unmatched star power, a love for storytelling, and a sharp sense of (humour) that fits perfectly with our team." 'With Bonds joining as our title partner and the launch of the Bonds Flying Roos, we're building something distinctly Australian; a team driven by spirit, resilience, and national pride,' the London Games gold medalist added. Ryan Reynolds has also invested in other sports clubs, including an Alpine Formula One team and a Colombian football club, La Equidad. Furthermore, he showed interest in buying a stake in the NHL's Ottawa Senators, but he withdrew his bid in 2023, according to The Guardian.
