AkzoNobel Launches New R&D Centre In Nilai

SEREMBAN, June 19 (Bernama) -- AkzoNobel has launched its research and development (R&D) centre in Nilai, reinforcing its long-term commitment to innovation, sustainability and growth in the Southeast Asian region.
Specialising in advanced decorative paint technologies with a strong focus on eco-friendly and sustainable solutions, the facility serves as the company's regional innovation hub by bringing R&D closer to key markets and enabling faster, market relevant development.
Business unit director for decorative paints, ASEAN, My Lan Nguyen said the centre is serving as the latest addition to AkzoNobel's global network of specialised centres.

'This site complements existing hubs in Poland, Dubai, Felling and Slough in the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.'
She said the centre also benefitted from integration with the company's broader network of approximately 70 R&D laboratories worldwide.
"This new centre marks a significant step in our journey to transform the way we innovate in Southeast Asia. It enables us to tap into local talent and insights, while connecting seamlessly with our global R&D network to deliver smarter, more sustainable solutions across the region," she said in a statement today.
My Lan said AkzoNobel aims to improve internal collaboration, accelerate innovation cycles, and more effectively tailor product development to local market needs.
Meanwhile, R&D director for decorative paints, South East and South Asia, Gary Jefferson said the new R&D centre in Malaysia enables them to work more closely with the teams on the ground and industry partners to co-create solutions that resonate locally.
'It sharpens our ability to turn consumer insights into real, sustainable innovations faster and more effectively than ever before,' he said.

Perak Offers Agricultural Land To Agro-entrepreneurs In All Districts
SUNGAI SIPUT, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Perak government is offering land to agro-entrepreneurs in every district in a bid to strengthen the state's agricultural industry and food security. State Rural Development, Plantation, Agriculture and Food Industry Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun said anyone interested can submit applications to the nearest district and land office (PDT). 'The state government, through the PDT in each district, is ready to assist interested agro-entrepreneurs in acquiring or expanding land via Temporary Occupation Licences to carry out agricultural activities. On July 11 last year, Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad announced that the state government had, in principle, allocated land resources for agricultural development, including areas gazetted as Food Security Zones and any suitable state-owned land in Perak. Regarding today's programme, Zolkafly said the agricultural equipment contributed by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) to farmers under the Marketing Contract Partner (RPKP) programme is expected to help optimise production and increase income generation. 'The provision of equipment such as digital and analogue weighing machines, cash registers, plastic pallets, hand trolleys and so on is hoped to ease the work of the estimated 20 farmers involved in this RPKP programme,' he said. Meanwhile, FAMA deputy director-general (operations) Shahrizan Sudiman said that, to date, 62 agro-entrepreneurs and 650 farmers are directly involved in the RPKP programme nationwide.

eGUMIS Portal Wins Malaysia Public Sector Initiative Of The Year Award
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) -- The eGUMIS portal developed by the Accountant General's Department of Malaysia (JANM) has been named the Malaysia Public Sector Initiative of the Year at the GovMedia Conference & Awards 2025 held in Singapore yesterday. In a statement, the department said the regional-level award aims to recognise outstanding achievements and innovations in the implementation of digital systems by government agencies, particularly those that directly benefit the public. 'This award is a significant recognition of JANM's commitment to enhancing public service delivery through digitalisation and system innovation,' the statement read. Unclaimed Money Management Division director Nawiah Mohet represented the department under the Finance Ministry to receive the award, organised by Charlton Media Group Pte Ltd. The eGUMIS portal, an online platform for checking and claiming unclaimed money (WTD), was introduced in 2020. As of 2024, it has benefited nearly 5.7 million users in matters related to WTD. 'This innovative digital transformation has not only expedited service delivery but also ensured greater transparency, accuracy and public satisfaction. 'In addition, the implementation of eGUMIS with Robotic Process Automation capabilities is part of the Bureaucratic Red-Tape Reform, demonstrating JANM's commitment to providing responsive and people-centric financial services,' it added. -- BERNAMA

JPJ Receives Digital Transformation Of The Year - Transportation Award In Singapore
KUALA LUMPUR, June 20 (Bernama) – The Road Transport Department (JPJ) Malaysia received the award for the category 'Digital Transformation of the Year - Transportation', in conjunction with the GovMedia Awards 2025 in Singapore yesterday (June 19). It said in a statement today that the prestigious award is recognition of the MyJPJ application which was highlighted by Malaysia for the awards.
