Reds' Wade Miley responds after being identified as alleged drug supplier to late Tyler Skaggs

Cincinnati Reds pitcher Wade Miley was recently tabbed as one of Tyler Skaggs' alleged drug suppliers before his death from an overdose in 2019.
Skaggs' former agent, Ryan Hamill, said in a deposition earlier this week that Skaggs told him he had been using pain pills containing oxycodone, which were provided by Miley.
The deposition is part of a wrongful death lawsuit filed by Skaggs' family against his former Los Angeles Angels. Skaggs and Miley were teammates with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012 and 2013.
Miley briefly addressed the matter on Friday.
"I hate what happened to Tyler. It sucks. My thoughts are with his family and friends," he began. "But I'm not going to sit here and talk about things that somebody might have said about me or whatnot. I was never a witness for any of this. I've never been accused of any wrongdoing."
Former LA Angels publicist Eric Kay was convicted in Texas of providing the fentanyl-laced pills that an autopsy found had contributed to Skaggs' death. He was sentenced to 22 years in federal prison in 2022.
Miley, 38, is not facing criminal charges, and it is not the first time his name has come up in relation to Skaggs' death. During the sentencing phase of Kay's case, prosecutors used a recording of a conversation between Kay and his mother, in which Kay said Miley was one of Skaggs' drug suppliers.
Former New York Mets ace Matt Harvey admitted during Kay's trial that he had supplied drugs to Skaggs. The two were teammates with the Angels in the year of Skaggs' death.
Harvey, C.J. Cron, Mike Morin and Cam Bedrosian also said in court that they had been provided drugs by Kay.
Harvey and three other players also testified they received pills from Skaggs and described the recreational drug use they witnessed while with the Angels.
Miley signed a one-year contract with the Reds on June 4 and has made two starts this season. He had Tommy John surgery on his left elbow in May 2024 and signed a minor league deal with Cincinnati in February.
Skaggs was 27 when he was found in a hotel room in Southlake, Texas, before the Angels were set to play the Texas Rangers.

Billy Goat Tavern at Navy Pier brings food for Chicago police officers mourning Officer Krystal Rivera

The Billy Goat Tavern and Grill at Navy Pier helped bring smiles to dozens of Chicago police officers on Sunday. Chefs at the legendary Chicago restaurant packed up cases of soda and cooked up 160 cheeseburgers. It was all for officers at the Grand Crossing (3rd) and Gresham (6th) district police stations — at 7040 S. Cottage Grove Ave. and 7808 S. Halsted St., respectively — where fallen officer Krystal Rivera served her community. The effort was organized by retired Chicago police Officer Walter Metcalf. Metcalf worked with Grand Crossing District Cmdr. Melvin Branch to get the donated food delivered. Rivera accidentally shot and killed by a fellow officer during a chase in the Chatham neighborhood on the night of Thursday, June 5. ivera was part of a CPD tactical team on patrol just before 10 p.m. near 82nd and Drexel, when they tried to conduct an investigatory stop, and as officers approached, the suspect ran into a nearby apartment building. Police chased the suspect inside, and sources said Rivera and her partner followed the suspect to an apartment on the second floor. Snelling has said, when officers got to that apartment, they were confronted by a second person armed with a rifle. Rivera, 36, was shot in the back, and was rushed to University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Man killed, 2 women critical after head-on crash in Joliet, police say

A man was killed and two women were critically hurt after a head-on crash Saturday evening in Joliet, Illinois. Joliet police said just before 7 p.m., officers responded to Black Road and Magnolia Drive for a report of a traffic crash with injuries. Preliminary investigation indicated that a Buick Regal driven by a 57-year-old Joliet man was heading westbound on Black Road approaching Magnolia Drive. It is believed that the Regal veered left into an eastbound lane of Black Road, hitting a Buick Encore driven by a 68-year-old woman head-on. The Regal then hit a Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 26-year-old man also heading eastbound on Black Road. The driver of the Buick Regal was taken to St Joseph Medical Center by the Joliet Fire Department and was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The Will County Coroner's Office will determine the identity of the deceased driver and the manner of death. The Encore driver and passenger, a 69-year-old woman from Lake Station, Indiana, were taken to St. Joseph Medical Center in critical condition. The Chevrolet driver was not hurt. Investigators temporarily closed the roadway to reconstruct the scene. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with video footage or information about the crash is asked to contact the Joliet Police Department Traffic Unit at 815-724-3193.
