‘England should beat India if they temper Bazball and use some common sense': Geoffrey Boycott
Former England player Geoffrey Boycott urged the Ben Stokes-led England team to temper their Bazball style of batting and apply some common sense in the upcoming 5-match Test series against India, adding that winning is more important than entertaining.
'England should beat India if they temper Bazball and use some common sense. At times their cricket has been thrilling and super enjoyable but also reckless batting has lost them Test matches. Their only thought should be winning because it is no use telling us how good you are when the last three World Test Championship finals have been played in our country but England have not qualified for any of them. They should be embarrassed. Their aim should be to make the next WTC final,' Boycott wrote in his column for the Daily Telegraph.
'The new cycle starts now and somebody needs to get through to the England players that being a winner is better than being known as an entertainer. If you can win and entertain, that is a bonus. At the moment England are like a one-trick-pony. It's Bazball or Bazball and that is the way we play; take it or leave it. They don't want to change or learn from their losses. It doesn't seem to make any difference that so many top class ex-England Test players keep telling them to moderate their batting. So please, get your act together, bring your best game and apply some cricket nous,' he added.
Bazball is the term associated with England's aggressive style of play under head coach Brendon McCullum. Essentially, it gives players license to be more attacking and emboldened with their shot-making and field placings, and be free from recrimination.
Last month, Bazball was in full flow against Zimbabwe in England's one-off Test match win where Zimbabwe folded inside three days as expected and the Three Lions won by an innings and 45 runs with four sessions to spare in a worthy warmup for India's five-test tour starting on June 20 in Leeds.

IPL over Australia? Josh Hazlewood responds to Mitchell Johnson's scathing criticism
Josh Hazlewood responds to Mitchell Johnson. (AP Photo) Mitchell Johnson criticised Hazlewood for prioritising IPL over Tests Hazlewood dismissed Johnson's claims about fitness and preparation Australia were hammered by South Africa in the WTC Final Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has responded to Mitchell Johnson's scathing criticism. After Australia were hammered in the World Test Championship final by South Africa, former fast bowler Johnson had hit out against Hazlewood, accusing the pacer of prioritising the Indian Premier League over Test cricket. Johnson's comments came in the backdrop of Hazlewood playing the IPL 2025 with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, which ran till June 3, only a week and a half away from the WTC Final. Hazlewood only picked up 2 wickets in the WTC Final, attracting the wrath of the former fast bowler. 'We've seen concerns about Hazlewood's fitness in recent years, and his decision to prioritise returning to the delayed Indian Premier League over his national team preparations raised eyebrows,' Johnson had written in The West Australian. Hazlewood responded to Johnson's comments in the run-up to the Test series against West Indies, explaining why the IPL was the best possible preparation that he could have asked for in the run-up to the summit clash in Test cricket. 'I haven't seen any of that, to be honest,' Hazlewood told Sydney Morning Herald when asked about Johnson's column. 'We know what's going on inside our rooms. It seemed far and away the best place to get ready for any type of cricket that was coming up. The weather was definitely a factor as well. Just getting over there and playing intense competition like that, it's hard to replicate in training," he added. 'Sydney, it was raining and I had literally nowhere to bowl. I got to Brisbane for three or four days and it was very wet. We were lucky to get on. I just thought the best place to bowl was India. We were still in the competition, we were going to play semis, and I was going to be there for 10 days. I think it was comfortably the best option,' the fast bowler concluded. Bumrah equals Kapil's record of most fifers by an Indian away from home
Leeds, Jun 23 (UNI) Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has equalled legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev's record of most five wicket hauls by an Indian away from home. He claimed another five wickets in the ongoing India- England Test match being currently played in Headingley. Bumrah collected figures of 5/83 during England's first innings at Headingley, with the fast bowler joining Dev on 12 for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian player away from home in Test cricket. Bumrah however will consider himself unlucky as the Indian fielders let him down dropping several catches of his bowling otherwise he could have many more wickets. Bumrah received high praise from former batting great Sachin Tendulkar took to social media platform 'X' to congratulate him and pointed out that his wicket haul could have been bigger if not for dropped catches. 'Congratulations Bumrah! A no-ball and 3 missed chances stood between you and nau (nine) wickets,' Tendulkar posted, UNI RKM

IND vs ENG: Jasprit Bumrah's wife shares adorable photo of son after seamer's fifer at Headingley
Jasprit Bumrah took a five wicket haul during the first innings of the opening Test between India and England at Headingley. (Getty Images) Jasprit Bumrah 's wife, Sanjana Ganesan, shared a photo, seemingly of their son Angad, on Instagram on the same day the Indian seamer completed a five-wicket haul during the first Test against England at Headingley. In an Instagram Story, Ganesan posted a picture of a child with the red cricket ball in hands with "England", "Jasprit Bumrah " and his bowling figures of "24.4-5-83-5" written on it. Bumrah was a one-man show for Indian bowling at Leeds as he accounted for the wickets of Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Joe Root, Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue to register figures of 5/83. Mohammed Siraj (2/122) and Prasidh Krishna (3/128) were the other wicket-takers for India as England posted 465 on the board, coming six runs shy of India's first innings total of 471. Jasprit Bumrah press conference: Lashes out at critics, dropped catches and no balls "At this moment pretty good wicket to bat on. It is a little bit two paced, no big demons in wicket. Due to weather, new ball will swing but that is what you expect in Test cricket. We would like to get a big total and get that cushion," said Bumrah on the bowling conditions. The Indian seamer could have had more wickets had the Indian fielding been up to the mark and he not overstepped. The bigger culprit, though, were the six catches that went down. Sanjana Ganesan's Instagram Story after Jasprit Bumrah took a fifer at Headingley. "Yeah, just for a second. But you understand that you can't really sit down and cry, isn't it? You have to move forward with the game. So, what I look to do is not to take it too far in my head and try and quickly forget it because all of them are also new to the game. "Sometimes the ball is difficult to sight and nobody is dropping the catch purposely. Everybody is trying really hard. It does happen. So, I don't want to create a scene or put more pressure on the fielder that I'm angry, I'm kicking the box or I'm doing something. It's okay. "It's part and parcel of the game. Obviously, if it (catches) would have been taken earlier, that's good, but people will learn from this experience," he added. Game On Season 1 kicks off with Sakshi Malik's inspiring story.
