DIY upcycling specialist Nicole McLaughlin is adding to her portfolio of pouch-equipped sneaker collaborations with a new Puma project set to be released soon.
Teased Friday by McLaughlin on social media, the designer's Puma Suede 'Sweep the Factory Floor' collab combines randomized swatches of colorful suede material for one-of-a-kind patchwork looks. McLaughlin's design of the iconic 1960s Puma sneaker includes a (presumably removable) button pouch atop the laces which is fashioned in the same multicolor suede construction. 'Nm' branding at the heel denotes it as a McLaughlin collaboration, and the designer's name is also printed on the insole.
Puma's partnership manager of global collaborations, Ferdinand Krug, chimed in with further context. 'Made of factory scraps. Every shoe's different,' Krug wrote on Instagram.

Similar 'cutting room floor' concepts have been executed on sneakers in the past. New Balance has been a proponent of the manufacturing method, with limited-edition models such as the Test Run 3.0 and various Jaden Smith collaborations making use of surplus materials. In 2023, Asics celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Gel-Lyte 5 by releasing 'Re: Collaboration' and 'Re: Material' versions of the model, although those pairs used the idea as inspiration rather than actually repurposing salvaged materials.
As for McLaughlin, the designer's upcoming Puma Suede collaboration stays true to the sustainable ethos she's established and has been in the making for quite some time. In June '23, McLaughlin was featured in a video for Global Fashion Agenda's Designer Challenge.
'The challenge that Puma and I are trying to solve is how to create an upcycled shoe at scale,' McLaughlin said. 'This is something that I haven't seen done at least very often or maybe done to the best extent that it could possibly be.'
The Nicole McLaughlin x Puma Suede 'Sweep the Factory Floor' collaboration is expected to be made available soon, although an exact release date and price point were not confirmed.

LAS VEGAS -- LAS VEGAS (AP) — Khaby Lame, the world's most popular TikTok personality with millions of followers, has left the U.S. after being detained by immigration agents in Las Vegas for allegedly overstaying his visa. The Senegalese-Italian influencer, whose legal name is Seringe Khabane Lame, was detained Friday at Harry Reid International Airport but was allowed to leave the country without a deportation order, a spokesperson for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement confirmed in a statement. A voluntary departure — which was granted to Lame — allows those facing removal from the U.S. to avoid a deportation order on their immigration record, which could prevent them from being allowed back into the U.S. for up to a decade. The 25-year-old rose to international fame during the pandemic without ever saying a word in his videos, which would show him reacting to absurdly complicated 'life hacks." He has over 162 million followers on TikTok alone. The Senegal-born influencer moved to Italy when he was an infant with his working class parents and has Italian citizenship. His internet fame quickly evolved. He signed a multi-year partnership with designer brand Hugo Boss in 2022. In January, he was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador.

Bryson DeChambeau returns to defend U.S. Open title as golf's YouTube king
OAKMONT, Pa. — Bryson DeChambeau returns to the 2025 U.S. Open as the defending champion and golf's YouTube king, at least among the pro ranks. From his 2 million YouTube fans watching him try to "Break 50" with the likes of Donald Trump, various influencers and athletes to joining Johnson Wagner as he tried to reproduce his remarkable bunker shot at 18 at Pinehurst No. 2 during Golf Channel's "Live From," people love DeChambeau's content creation. The latest example was on display at Oakmont, site of this week's 125th U.S. Open, when DeChambeau showed up for a practice round on May 31 and filmed every shot. It was riveting stuff that no other player had done before. 'He's done a heck of a job using social media channels to connect with viewers, connect with golfers, and show his true personality because I think he probably didn't do a great job of that early on in his career,' NBC's Kevin Kisner said. ESPN's Scott Van Pelt took his analysis of DeChambeau's reboot as a YouTube star – he's got nearly 3 million Instagram followers and another 2 million on TikTok, too – one step further. 'I think he's now kind of figured out where he wants to be. He's almost reinvented himself in some ways,' he said. 'He's grown as a human, it seems to me.
