Hot, humid week ahead for North Texans
A hot and sunny week is ahead in North Texas with a chance of rainfall along a weak front by Wednesday night.
Monday will be mostly sunny with highs in the mid-90s and winds from the southwest around 5 to 10 mph. The moisture content around North Texas is high, which is impacting the "feels-like" temperatures, or heat index value – though today's high is 94 degrees, the heat index is in the triple digits.

A few isolated showers and storms will be possible across East Texas Monday, but for the majority of the region, conditions will stay dry.
Dry weather will stay in the forecast throughout next week. However, late Wednesday night, there is a risk of storms with a few reaching and surpassing severe limits. The primary risk is for damaging winds 60 mph or stronger.

A weak cold front will move through Wednesday night and stall Thursday to the south of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This disturbance could cause additional storms at the end of the week for some locations.

Got outdoor activities planned for Juneteenth? Forecasters predict dicey weather
The National Weather Service (NWS) out of Wakefield, Virginia issued a hazardous weather outlook at 6:56 a.m. on June 16 for Petersburg and surrounding areas. The weather on Juneteenth, the federal holiday on June 19, is not looking great. The outlook at stated that "on June 16, scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible in the afternoon in Amelia, Richmond, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Eastern Chesterfield and Colonial Heights. Any thunderstorms that develop will be capable of producing brief heavy rainfall and isolated instances of flash flooding." Meteorologist Larry Brown, at the NWS Wakefield office, provided a forecast at 8:20 a.m. June 16 for Petersburg and beyond. "It's going to be relatively cool and cloudy for most of the day today with possible showers. There could be an isolated thunderstorm this afternoon, but for the most part, the thunderstorms will be south of us today," Brown said. "Tomorrow, there is the possibility of a late-day thunderstorm, late afternoon into the evening." According to Brown, the highest risk of thunderstorms being really strong to severe in The Progress-Index readership area will be on June 19. "This encompasses the Petersburg area, and pretty much the entire area from New Jersey down to North Carolina, except for maybe the Carolina Coast is in that risk for Thursday." US National Weather Service Wakefield VA posted on Facebook on June 16, "Looking ahead, the humidity sticks around through the week, with much warmer temperatures on the way for the latter half of the week into next weekend, just in time for the Summer Solstice later this week (Friday)." A heat advisory is in effect in Alaska for the first time ever
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (WJW/AP) — When you think of Alaska, you rarely think of heat. But currently, parts of Alaska are under the state's first official heat advisory. Here's why it is technically new, but not necessarily unique in what's considered the nation's coldest state. 1 killed in Canton Township hit-and-run; see the suspect's car Unusually warm weather has been recorded in Alaska before, but previously the National Weather Service would issue 'special weather statements' to alert residents about warm weather conditions, according to the Associated Press. It was only at the start of June 2025 that the National Weather Service permitted heat advisories to be issued in the state. The switch is reportedly meant to change how the public views the information. 'Using the heat advisory label could help people better understand the weather's severity and potential danger, something a nondescript 'special weather statement' didn't convey,' the Associated Press reported. Flash flooding kills 5 in West Virginia, rescue teams searching for missing people According to the National Weather Service, the heat advisory went into effect Sunday, June 15 for Tanana, Fairbanks, Fort Yukon and Eagle, where temperatures are expected to reach between 85 and 89 degrees Fahrenheit. The advisory is scheduled to last through Tuesday evening. Far less surprising: Northeast Ohio is also in for a stretch of summer temperatures this week with many days expected to reach the mid 80s.
