Channel 5 bosses in crisis talks about future of Vanessa Feltz's show – just two months after launch

The Sun23-05-2025

CHANNEL 5 bosses have been locked in crisis talks over the future of Vanessa Feltz's afternoon show.
The veteran broadcaster was handed her own self-titled programme on the network two months ago but it has so far failed to deliver the ratings that Channel 5 were hoping for throwing the entire future in jeopardy.

The Sun understands that head honchos of the programme have held crunch talks about what to do with the show and if there is even a future for Vanessa on Channel 5.
It had been hoped that fans who tuned in for Jeremy Vine on the channel would stick around to see Vanessa and her celebrity guests but the ratings have tumbled.
An insider told The Sun: "The future of Vanessa's show is very much uncertain for the time being.
"Bosses have been locked in crisis talks and have been planning ways to immediately revamp the programme if there is to be a chance that it could be saved.
"Only 62,000 viewers tuned into Monday's episode and there is feeling that it has been a total disaster behind-the-scenes.
"Jeremy regularly gets 200,000 watching his show but they all seem to reach for the remote and switch off when Vanessa comes on."
The insider revealed that staff working on the programme have been further thrown by ITV 's recent announcement of cuts across the daytime sector.
Knowing that Vanessa brings in far less viewers than Lorraine and Loose Women, who are under threat, they fear it is only a matter of time until the plug is pulled for good.
They added: "Everyone is worried and they all feel bitterly disappointed that Vanessa's show hasn't taken off as planned."
Despite this, another insider admitted to The Sun that Vanessa's timeslot has always typically received less viewers than Jeremy's on-air slot and at present, was still performing in-line with what is expected of early afternoons on Channel 5.
Vanessa Feltz issues HUGE update on her new Channel 5 show as she's set to welcome Corrie legend
When contacted by The Sun, a Channel 5 spokesperson said: "There are no current plans for any changes. As with all live shows, we continue to evolve with our audience.'
Vanessa's programme launched to much fanfare earlier this year as she made her return to daytime TV hosting.
She first hosted Vanessa for ITV between 1994 and 1998 before it came to a halt amid a pay row which allegedly saw Vanessa demand a £2.75million salary.
A year later, she hosted a similar show, titled The Vanessa Show, for BBC One, but that was axed after one series.
In 2011, The Vanessa Show was revived for the first time by Channel 5 but was eventually pushed to a late afternoon slot amid poor ratings before being cancelled altogether.
14 years on and it seems that Channel 5 are suffering the same fate after choosing to reboot her original ITV show - Vanessa.
Vanessa Feltz on 5
Vanessa Feltz is set to host her own brand new daytime show on 5, but what can viewers expect?
The commercial network have promised the show will be open, honest, and full of fun discussions.
Topics that will be covered include relationships, parenting, gossip or fashion.
Speaking about her self-titled programme, she said: "I cannot wait to get started on this sparkling adventure with Channel 5.
"This show is all about YOU – your stories, your opinions, your emotions, and your triumphs. Television's never been so real, honest, or unpredictable.
"Life isn't perfect, so let's not pretend it is – let's help each other out, have a giggle, and make every show a conversation worth having so kick off your shoes and come and join me for lunch, relax with a bit of me time and let's have a ball!"

Neve Gordon-Farleigh BBC News, Norfolk Reuters The annual beer festival has been held at The Halls for about 45 years An annual beer festival has announced it will relocate its festivities while the venue it has used for about 45 years underwent renovation works. The Norwich Beer Festival has run for more than 50 years and it has previously been held at The Halls, in the city. The organisers said it will take place at a number of different venues this year, with the dates and locations to be announced. Craig Harmer, the festival's organiser, said: "We know how important the Norwich Beer Festival is to the local community, whilst we're disappointed that the refurbishment of The Halls in Norwich will not be complete, we're excited to announce that the festival will continue." While the event usually takes place from 27 October to 1 November, this year it will run at an alternative date. Mr Harmer said the festival typically takes up the whole of The Halls. Works to The Halls were due to be completed in April The Halls in Norwich is made up of St Andrews and Blackfriars Halls and closed at the beginning of 2023 to allow for works to be carried out. The building was due to reopen in April. The 14th Century building required structural repairs to its roof and windows, improvements to make the site into an arts venue and electrical upgrades. A survey of the building showed moisture had built up in the roof's timber after plastic sheeting was installed about 80-100 years ago. Mr Harmer said organisers of the festival were told in 2022 that the traditional venue would need to close. He said: "It's all about supporting the pubs and the breweries... this year we are planning to incorporate everything. "It's certainly made a difference... we have to find places and build it from scratch and see what happens." Follow Norfolk news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X. Related internet links

Dan Snow 'overwhelmed' finding remains of girl, 12 - 'She was my daughter's age'

Dan Snow explores the ruins of Machu Picchu in a compelling new show for 5. But the father-of-three was struck when he discovered the mummified remains of a young girl. Scaling Machu Picchu, Dan Snow 's latest adventure is anything but ordinary. But he was rattled by his encounter with a 600-year-old Inca mummy. The historian and presenter, 46, fronts Machu Picchu: The Discovery with Dan Snow on Channel 5, diving deep into the secrets of the ancient Peruvian city lost to the jungle for centuries. ‌ 'It is the most splendid and overwhelming location for a historical site. Nothing can prepare you for arriving there,' he says, 'I'd never visited before and it was one of my bucket list places. I was so desperate to do it.' ‌ Alongside the stunning scenery came cultural revelations. 'The Incas were very different,' he says, 'To understand their belief systems, you have to turn everything you understand from the West on its head. They used to keep their Emperors mummified, bringing them out on special occasions. Death wasn't the end for them. That was difficult because it's so different.' He adds: "Seeing the way the landscape is kind of organised – like a great big Coliseum. Such beautiful mountains, river valleys and then stunning buildings. All built with these extraordinary, exquisite stonemasonry techniques of the Inca. It is truly like a lost city in the jungle. It's the thing you dream about when you're a little kid." But one of the most striking of the show moments came when Dan encountered the frozen remains of a 12-year-old-girl, sacrificed to the mountain gods. 'She was perfectly preserved in ice,' he says, 'I had to hold her for a minute. She was my daughter's age. It was one of the most overwhelming things.' ‌ Dan has been married to criminologist and philanthropist Lady Edwina Louise Grosvenor since November 2010. Edwina is the second daughter of the 6th Duke of Westminster, Gerald Cavendish Grosvenor. She and Dan lead a happy family life in the New Forest with their three children. Hidden from Spanish invaders and swallowed by rainforest, Machu Picchu remained untouched for centuries. 'It was just so inaccessible," says Dan. ‌ The Spanish never managed to get to it. Everything grows so fast that it was abandoned: The Spanish never found it, and before you know it the jungle had just taken over.' But reaching it wasn't easy. 'It was a really challenging place to film. Carrying all our equipment over these mountain paths,' he says, 'At one stage, we were swinging the camera, and I almost fell off into the valley below. It was exhausting.' The altitude only made things worse. 'People were having nosebleeds as we were trying to operate equipment,' Dan adds. 'Even in Cusco, one of the highest cities on Earth. It was one of the more challenging places I have had to operate for sure.' Now back from his visit, Dan's wanderlust is far from cured. 'I'd love to visit Easter Island," he says, 'There are Roman ruins in North Africa, even in China! The great happiness is that there's always opportunities.'
