Cabinet Secretary (CS) Duale Warns the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) Against Accrediting Non-Compliant Facilities, Calls for Integrity in Health Regulation
Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has issued a stern warning to the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC) against the licensing of unqualified and non-compliant medical facilities, emphasizing that any compliance or registration officer involved in malpractice will face consequences: 'It will not be business as usual.'
During his maiden visit to KMPDC offices in Nairobi today, Hon. Duale called on the Council to uphold integrity, transparency, and service to the public as stipulated under Section 33(2) of the 2023 Social Health Insurance Act. He emphasized the Council's pivotal role in ensuring all Kenyans, regardless of age or economic status, can access safe, quality healthcare delivered by qualified professionals.
In his address, the CS underscored the importance of unity of purpose in delivering the health agenda and unlocking Universal Health Coverage (UHC). 'Let your operations reflect integrity, transparency, and service to the public,' he urged, while calling for timely service delivery, teamwork, and efficient use of public resources.
Hon. Duale assured KMPDC of the Ministry's full support in enhancing its effectiveness through legislative reforms, resource mobilization, and stronger coordination with counties and professional bodies.
Hon. Duale also briefed the Council on the Ministry's Digital Health Agency, highlighting its role in identifying and cracking down on unqualified medical practitioners to safeguard the public from substandard care.
Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga stressed the need for a clear competency framework and robust professional practice evaluation to enhance service delivery and ensure high standards across the sector.
Also present was Public Health Principal Secretary Ms. Mary Muthoni and Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth. The meeting was attended by KMPDC CEO Dr. David Kariuki and Chair Prof. Stanley Khainga, along with other senior officials.

Duale flagged off five double cabin vehicles to be distributed across five KMTC campuses. The vehicles are expected to ease student access to clinical training sites, enhance supervision, and support community-based service delivery. Hon. UAE's midday break for outdoor work begins June 15
The annual mid-day break, which restricts outdoor work between 12:30 pm and 3:00 pm, will come into force on June 15, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MoHRE) announced. It will end on September 15, the ministry added. The summer mid-day break is now in its 21st year, and is part of the UAE's efforts to provide a safe work environment during the summer months. Workers must have access to shaded areas during off-duty periods that has cooling equipment such as fans, sufficient access to drinking water and first-aid kits. Those caught violating the rule will be fined AED5,000 for each person found working during the break hours and up to a maximum of AED50,000 if the case involves multiple workers. Exceptions will apply to work that demands continuity, like asphalt mix laying and concrete pouring, and repair work that concern interruptions to water supply lines, power outages, traffic disruptions and other essential services. The exception also includes work that require a permit from a competent government authority due to their impact on traffic and public life. Mohsen Al Nasi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection and Compliance Sector at the Ministry, said regular field visits will be conducted to check if companies are following the rules. MoHRE called on community members and workers to report any violations by contacting its call centre at 600590000 or through the MoHRE app and website.
