INDIAN TRAIL, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A local teacher was named North Carolina's Teacher of the Year by Teachers of Tomorrow, the nation's top alternative teacher certification program.
Victoria Kauffman is an arts teacher at Cuthbertson High School.
'As a dedicated and passionate Theater Arts teacher, Victoria creates an inclusive, engaging, and intellectually stimulating learning environment where every student feels valued and empowered,' said mentor Ashley Bayer, who nominated Kauffman. 'Victoria's classroom is a space where all students—regardless of background, ability, or experience—are welcomed and encouraged to express themselves. She fosters a culture of belonging, ensuring that every student's voice is heard and respected.'
'As a theater teacher, theater mom, director and performer myself, I think of teaching as the ROLE of a lifetime! Teaching Theatre Arts is more than the subject matter,' said Kauffman. 'I am teaching applicable, marketable skills like collaboration, problem solving, critical thinking, and most importantly confidence and self-expression. I adore sharing my love of theater with my students, and I love even more being a part of their journey as a mentor and guide to adulthood!'
Teachers for Tomorrow operates in several states, recognizing the brightest educators through its Teacher of the Year competition. The program features teachers nominated by school principals and ToT field supervisors across Arizona, Florida, Indiana, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, South Carolina and Texas.
State winners received a $500 award for classroom supplies and professional development.
But that's not all.
Each state winner advances as a finalist for the National Teacher of the Year competition, where the winner, chosen by a public vote, will receive a $5,000 prize.
Voting ends April 18. The winner will be announced during Teacher Appreciation Week (May 5-9).

'Ghost Adventures' Star Aaron Goodwin Gets Emotional Confronting Estranged Wife as She Is Sentenced for Conspiring to Murder Him

Aaron Goodwin confronted his estranged wife Victoria Goodwin during her sentencing on June 5 He told the judge he "will never feel safe" and he fears for his life after finding out that his estranged wife conspired to have him killed Victoria was sentenced to a minimum of 36 months and a maximum of 90 months in prison after taking a plea deal in AprilAaron Goodwin confronted his estranged wife Victoria Goodwin for conspiring to murder him. The Ghost Adventures star, 49, read a statement in court as Victoria was sentenced on Thursday, June 5, detailing how he felt when he found out that she had been plotting his murder and the subsequent fear he had for his safety. 'For seven years I thought I was in [the] most loving relationship of marriage with my best friend, someone I trusted [with my] whole heart and laughed with every day. Someone who made me feel like I was so — like I was her one and only,' an emotional Goodwin told the judge, per Court TV. "Now, discovering she put a hit out to kill me more than once, got blackmailed and spent almost all our savings to keep it quiet … This has led me to fear [for] my life,' he continued, through tears. 'I've hired armed security for weeks. Not knowing [whether] it was over or not.' Aaron, who filed for divorce from Victoria in March, told the judge that ever since he found out about the plot, he has been 'looking over' his shoulder and going through therapy to understand everything that has happened. He then described the feeling as a 'heartbreak no one should go through in life," stating, "The fact that this person did all this to me with no worry, no care or love in her heart for me, I will never feel the same." "I will never feel safe or be the same because of what she did. Especially when she gets out one day," Aaron added. 'Whether she [gets] minimum or maximum time, I still won't feel safe whenever she's released. I feel like this deserves prison time." Victoria was later sentenced to a minimum of 36 months and a maximum of 90 months in prison, according to KVVU-TV. She previously accepted a plea deal in April, pleading guilty to one felony count of conspiracy to commit murder. Victoria was initially taken into custody on March 6 on charges of soliciting to commit murder and conspiring to commit murder. She allegedly conspired with convicted murderer Grant Amato, with whom she began a relationship in March 2024, after seeing him in the Paramount+ true crime docuseries, Ctrl + Alt + Desire, per a police report. After Victoria and Amato met, she allegedly conspired to kill Aaron with her new lover's help — allegedly going as far as discussing payments for his murder. Their alleged plans were discovered when a phone Amato had been communicating with Victoria on was confiscated by prison security guards. Aaron and Victoria had been married since August 2022. Following the news of Victoria's alleged murder-for-hire plan, Aaron filed for divorce in a complaint that read, "There is no possibility of reconciliation between husband and wife.' Aaron later thanked his fans for their continued support in a March 22 Instagram post. "Thank you everyone for all the love and support through this emotionally trying time. It has really helped a lot and I appreciate you all,' he wrote. Read the original article on People

Reality Star Confronts Wife in Court Over Plotting His Murder

Ghost Adventures star Aaron Goodwin confronted his estranged wife in court Thursday, delivering a scathing statement as she was sentenced for plotting to have him killed. 'This person over here, I don't know at all. Not one bit,' Aaron said of his wife, Victoria Goodwin, while addressing the judge, according to US Weekly. 'The fact that this person did all this to me with no worry, no care or love in her heart for me—I will never feel the same.' Victoria pled guilty in April to conspiracy to commit murder in Nevada, after she was caught messaging Florida prison inmate Grant Amato in an attempt arrange Aaron's killing. Amato is serving life in prison for shooting his father, mother, and brother Cody in the head at their home in Florida in 2019 and attempting to stage it as a murder-suicide committed by his brother. Victoria allegedly offered $11,515 for the hit, sharing her husband's location with Amato—a convicted killer—who was expected to relay the information to a hitman. The murder was set to take place in Oct. 2024, while Aaron was filming Ghost Adventures in California. At Thursday's sentencing at Nevada's Clark County District Court, Victoria turned to Aaron, whom she wed in 2020, and apologized through tears. 'I'm so immensely sorry for the pain and anxiety I've caused you and the betrayal you undoubtedly and rightfully feel by my actions,' she said, US Weekly reported. Aaron, who investigates paranormal activity on his show, described the ordeal as 'a heartbreak no one should go through in life,' especially after he had tried to salvage their relationship even after discovering in Sept. 2024 that Victoria had been cheating on him with 'multiple men,' including Amato. 'I gave her the option of divorce where we could work it out because I loved her so much. She made me feel so special and she was very—she was so sorry,' Aaron said, before turning to address Victoria directly. 'At least that's what you told me.' Instead, he continued, 'She put a hit out to kill me more than once, got blackmailed, and spent almost all our savings to keep it quiet, and fell more in love with Amato.' Chilling messages Victoria sent to Amato about their sinister plan were recovered from her phone by investigators. 'Am I a bad person?' one message read. 'Because I chose to end his existence. Not divorce.' Aaron, who filed for divorce in March, said uncovering Victoria's murder-for-hire plot has left him unable to 'trust anything anymore,' and led him to hire armed security. 'I still won't feel safe whenever she's released,' he said. The judge sentenced Victoria to between three and seven-and-a-half years in prison.
