Florida Panthers-Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup Final by the numbers
The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers meet again in the Stanley Cup Final, a cross-continental showdown of the NHL's last teams left standing.
The Panthers are aiming to be back-to-back champions, while Oilers captain Connor McDavid is looking to hoist the Cup for the first time in his dominant career. Game 1 is Wednesday night at Edmonton.
Here's a look at the series by the numbers:
11
This is the 11th rematch in the final in league history and the first since Pittsburgh and Detroit in 2009. Edmonton and the New York Islanders also had one in 1984. Each of those series saw the result flip from the previous year.
The other two rematches since the expansion era began in 1967 were Montreal sweeps of Boston in 1977 and '78 and St. Louis in '68 and '69.
3
The Panthers are in the final for a third consecutive season, matching cross-state rival Tampa Bay's trio of trips from 2020-22. The Lightning won back to back on their first two runs, then lost their third to Colorado.
Since Paul Maurice was hired as coach and Florida acquired Matthew Tkachuk in a trade in the summer of 2022, the team has won 10 of 11 playoff series.
51
McDavid and longtime running mate Leon Draisaitl lead all scorers in the playoffs with 26 and 25 points, respectively. This is their seventh playoff run together and the sixth year in a row.
Since their postseason debuts in 2017, McDavid has 143 points and Draisaitl 133, first and second of all players in that time. All that is missing is the Stanley Cup.
2.11
Sergei Bobrovsky has again backstopped the Panthers to the final, going 12-5 with a 2.11 goals-against average and .912 save percentage through three rounds.
Counterpart Stuart Skinner lost his starting job after allowing 11 goals in Games 1 and 2 of the first round and only got it back in the second when Calvin Pickard was injured. Since returning to the net, Skinner is 6-2 with a 1.73 GAA and a .931 save percentage.
2,543
The 2,543 miles (4,092 kilometers) between Sunrise, Florida, and Edmonton, Alberta, is — for the second year in a row — the longest distance between finalists in NHL history. It's a roughly six-hour flight each way for the teams, which will be especially challenging going back to western Canada for Game 5 without an extra travel day after Game 4.

Stars fans react to Pete DeBoer's firing: "Sad to see him go"
At a sports bar in Frisco, Dallas Stars fans had plenty to say about the firing of head coach Pete DeBoer on Friday. "I'm sad to see him go because of what he's done for the city," said Eric Hood. "But ultimately, I can see why they did it, because three consecutive seasons of not winning a championship is probably a pretty hard pill to swallow." On Friday, Dallas GM Jim Nill announced the organization was parting ways with DeBoer, saying it was "time for a change." DeBoer had served as head coach for three seasons. Mixed reactions from fans DALLAS, TX - MAY 23: Pete DeBoer watches the action from behind the bench against the Edmonton Oilers in the second period of Game Two of the Western Conference Finals of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs at the American Airlines Center on May 23, 2025 in Dallas, Texas. Glenn James/NHLI via Getty Images While many fans had mixed feelings about the decision, some were surprised, given DeBoer's commitment to the organization. "Yeah, I was a little shocked, honestly, when I got that sent to me this morning. I couldn't believe it," said Sam Pomarantz. "I mean, he's been a great coach for us, led us to three conference championships in a row, and he just seemed like a good fit. He was doing well with the team." Business over loyalty Fans like Pomarantz said the decision likely came down to business. "At this level, you can't take anything personally. I think the Stars — and everybody here too — wants to win a championship," he said. While change can be difficult, some fans said it's sometimes necessary. "They're on the right track, but if you don't win, you gotta pay somebody that will," said Lee Payne. "I'm sure he'll recover. It'll be fine." Fans stay loyal to team Despite the coaching change, fans said they will continue to support the Stars and hope to see a Stanley Cup win in the near future. "All I can say is thank you," said Hood. "He's been a great coach, great to the city, great to the team… all I can say is thank you."

Rays edge Marlins 4-3
Jonathan Aranda drove in two runs Friday to lead the Tampa Bay Rays over the Miami Marlins 4-3 at George M. Steinbrenner Field. It was the Rays' fourth straight win to improve to 34-29, and the Marlins' fifth consecutive loss to drop to 23-38. Aranda is hitting .379 at the Rays' temporary home ballpark. He drove in the first run on a single in the first inning, just one of two hits the Rays got with runners in scoring position in 14 chances. He drove in another run on a groundout in the two-run third inning. Aranda singled again in the seventh and scored what turned out to be the winning run after singles by Jake Mangum and Matt Thaiss. Zack Littell (6-5) held the Marlins to one run on six hits over six innings. Agustin Ramirez homered off Littell in the fourth inning and Otto Lopez hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning off Edwin Uceta. Edward Cabrera (2-2) took the loss for the Marlins. Pete Fairbanks got his 12th save in front of a crowd of 8,448. With a runner on third base, Marlins second baseman Xavier Edwards laid down a bunt to Littell, who threw to first. Edwards beat the throw, but first-base umpire Ben May called him out for running through Aranda's glove even though the ball was dropped. The tying run was waved off. Marlins manager Clayton McCullough and Edwards were both ejected for arguing the non-reviewable call. It was the first career ejection for both. It was the Rays' eighth straight win in a Littell start, tying Shane McClanahan's 2023 streak for the fourth-longest such run in team history. Littell is 6-0 during that stretch. The Marlins will go with lefty Ryan Weathers, who will be making his first career start against Tampa Bay, on Saturday afternoon. Rays right-hander Taj Bradley (4-5, 3.95), who is 0-2 against the Marlins in his career, will start for the host team.
