Calgary Wranglers Sign Kyler Kupka To PTO
The Calgary Wranglers have signed forward Kyler Kupka to a professional try-out, it was announced this past weekend.
Kupka, who was recently named ECHL Player of the Week, has played the entire season with the South Carolina Stingrays where he has collected 26 goals and 25 assists for 51 points in 49 games.
In his first full season of pro hockey this year, Kupka joined the Stingrays at the end of the 2023-24 season after spending five years at St. Cloud State (NCAA). Across 145 career games, Kupka scored 32 goals and added 53 assists for 85 points.
With Kupka joining the Wranglers on a PTO, he could have a strong chance to see some games with the team. Kupka has already established himself as a difference maker at the ECHL level and should be a good candidate to jump to the AHL full time in 2025-26.

The coaching shuffle continued for the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday, with Jared Nightingale returning to the Rockford IceHogs. Nightingale takes over for interim coach Mark Eaton, who filled in as a first-time coach when the Hawks promoted Anders Sörensen to interim coach in Chicago on Dec. 5 after firing Luke Richardson. Nightingale, 42, was an assistant coach in Rockford from 2021-2024 (under Derek King, and then Sörensen) before serving as head coach of the ECHL South Carolina Stingrays last season, his first season as a bench boss. The Stingrays finished as regular-season champions at 52-15-5, but lost in the first round of the Kelly Cup playoffs. However, Nightingale was named ECHL coach of the year and also served as director of hockey operations for the Stingrays, who set franchise records in points (109) and wins (52). 'A natural leader, Jared's confidence and direction behind the bench has produced a coaching style that is perfectly suited to help develop and advance our young prospects in Rockford,' Hawks general manager Kyle Davidson said in a statement. 'His familiarity with the organization and our players is an incomparable asset and we're excited to see Jared succeed in this role moving forward.' Nightingale also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. U17 team in 2018-19 that featured IceHogs prospects Drew Commesso and Landon Slaggert, and on the Juniors roster that had Hawks goalie Spencer Knight and defenseman Alex Vlasic. He worked under then-head coach Seth Appert, a longtime colleague of new Hawks coach Jeff Blashill. Blashill was named the Hawks' 42nd head coach this month, and while he has kept on some staffers, he's shaken up the rest of the coaching tree: Despite his one-year absence from the organization, Nightingale will likely be reunited with some top prospects who may spend at least some of next season in Rockford, including defensemen Nolan Allan and Ethan Del Mastro and forward Colton Dach.

SC Stingrays break franchise records ahead of Kelly Cup playoffs
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The South Carolina Stingrays have secured home-ice advantage for the first round of the 2025 Kelly Cup Playoffs following a record-breaking regular season. Over the weekend, the Stingrays celebrated breaking franchise records for wins and points in games against the Orlando Solar Bears and Greenville Swamp Rabbits. On Saturday, the Stingrays breezed to a 5-1 win against Orlando, earning their 49th victory of the season and claiming the franchise single-season win record. 'Jayden Lee (2), Kyler Kupka, Tyler Weiss, and Dean Loukus scored for the Stingrays, while goaltender Mitchell Gibson stopped 26 of 27 shots to earn his tenth consecutive victory,' team officials said in an after-game recap. Coming off a record night, the team managed a 3-2 win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Sunday, setting a new single-season point record with 105 and earning their 15th consecutive victory. The Rays need only one more point to earn the Brabham Cup, which is awarded to the East Coast Hockey League's (ECHL) regular-season point champion. It all comes amid the team's first year with head Coach Jared Nightingale at the helm. The Rays have only three games left, all away. This Friday and Saturday, they will take on the Norfolk Admirals, and they will close out on Sunday against the Swamp Rabbits once again. No matter the outcome of the final games, the Stingrays will play at home when the playoffs begin on Apr. 18 at 7:05 p.m. with game two on Apr. 19 at 6:05 p.m. as the franchise looks to clinch its fourth Kelly Cup championship.
