Lucknow: In a chilling incident captured on CCTV, a 24-year-old nursing student jumped out of a moving e-rickshaw in Lucknow to escape sexual harassment by the driver and three other men.
The woman sustained serious injuries but managed to save herself from a potentially more horrific fate.
According to the survivor, the incident occurred on Monday evening when she boarded an e-rickshaw from Burlington Crossing for Tedhi Pulia. The driver picked her up, but soon after three of his acquaintances joined him. Near Nishatganj, the driver slid next to the student while one of the men took control of the vehicle.
She realised something was wrong when the rickshaw sped past her drop-off point and turned towards a deserted Kursi Road. When she protested and demanded they stop, the men ignored her, and the driver increased the speed. One of the men began molesting her, and the others joined in. When she screamed, they forcibly covered her mouth.
The terrified student jumped from the speeding vehicle near Janata Hospital. CCTV footage showed her being dragged nearly 10 ft on the road due to the impact.
