Couple targeted by rogue roofers in Milford Haven — rescued by local hero

A VULNERABLE couple in Milford Haven were left distraught and their home exposed to the elements after rogue roofers climbed onto their property under false pretences — and one reportedly grabbed the arm of 68-year-old Jane Scourfield, who suffers from spinal issues and relies on a walking stick.
The incident happened on Saturday (May 31) at the home of Jane and Dean Scourfield, aged 68 and 58, who live on Pill Road in Milford Haven.
Two men arrived at the property claiming they were there to provide a quote for roof repairs.
Without permission, they climbed onto the roof and began removing tiles, leaving the property damaged and exposed to the weather.
Witnesses said the men were seen in a silver van, and have also been spotted in a bronze or gold coloured SUV.
When Jane challenged the pair, one of the men grabbed her by the arm. She later told police she felt frightened and intimidated. A neighbour who witnessed the incident has confirmed the contact.
Jane, who has a serious spinal condition, relies on a stick to walk and was left shaken by the ordeal. Speaking to The Herald, she said: 'Following this I feel very vulnerable. They are targeting people who are older. They are looking at people who have disabled bars on their houses — we all have these hand rails on Pill Road. It's a vulnerability.'
The man who grabbed her is described as around 5ft 10in, with very bright ginger hair, and believed to be in his late twenties. The second male was a teenager, possibly 18 or younger. Both fled the scene after causing the damage.
The couple were left distressed — but less than 24 hours later, they were contacted by a genuine local roofer, Wayne Rogers of Rogers Roofing, who offered to carry out the repairs at cost, asking only for materials to be covered. He saw the appeal on Facebook and immediately stepped in to help.
Jane and Dean's daughter, Ellen Tamilia, praised their kindness: 'After 24 hours of terrible stress, we have a hero on a white charger coming to our rescue. Thank you so much both for restoring our faith in humankind.'
Wayne Rogers has confirmed that he will carry out the repairs to the couple's roof this week.
Dyfed-Powys Police have been contacted for a statement.

Hong Kong police accuse a mobile game app of promoting armed revolution

HONG KONG — Hong Kong police on Tuesday accused a mobile game application of advocating armed revolution and promoting secessionist agendas, saying that those who publish it or share it with others online may risk violating national security laws. The announcement — the first to publicly denounce a gaming app — indicates that authorities are widening the crackdown that has followed anti-government protests in 2019. Authorities have crushed or silenced many dissenting voices through prosecutions under the 2020 national security law imposed by Beijing and a similar, homegrown law enacted last year. In a statement, police warned residents against downloading the 'Reversed Front: Bonfire' application, saying those with the app installed might be seen as possessing a publication with a seditious intention. They also warned people against providing financial assistance to the application developer, including making in-app purchases. ''Reversed Front: Bonfire' was released under the guise of a game with the aim of promoting secessionist agendas such as 'Taiwan independence' and 'Hong Kong independence,' advocating armed revolution and the overthrow of the fundamental system of the People's Republic of China,' police said. The game application was developed by ESC Taiwan, which did not immediately respond to The Associated Press' request for comment. On the application's Facebook page, the developer posted about surging searches for the game name and a Hong Kong broadcaster's news report about Tuesday's development. According to the application's introduction, players can assume the role of Hong Kong, Tibet, Uyghur, Taiwan or Cathaysian Rebel factions, among others, to overthrow the communist regime. They may also choose to lead the communists to defeat all enemies. The game's website says it 'is a work of nonfiction. Any similarity to actual agencies, policies or ethnic groups of the PRC in this game is intentional.' The app was still available on Apple's App Store on Tuesday night, but could no longer be found on Wednesday morning. The game publisher said last month that Google Play had taken the app down because it did not prohibit users from adopting hateful language in naming. Apple, Google and Meta have not immediately commented. After playing the game for about three months, Kuo Hao Fu in Taiwan said he found that its content uses a humorous approach to describe serious political issues. Fu disagreed with the police accusations, saying players can also choose to be part of the force representing China. 'The Hong Kong police's actions demonstrate how Hong Kong's democratic freedoms have been controlled by the Chinese Communist Party,' he said. 'When even this level cannot be tolerated, it completely destroys creative freedom in gaming.' China considers Taiwan its own territory, to be brought under its control by force if necessary. Many Taiwanese in the self-ruled island showed concerns about Hong Kong's declining freedoms under Beijing's grip. The Beijing and Hong Kong governments insist the city's national security laws were necessary to return stability to the city after the protests.

Therapy dog missing in Highlands for two weeks as owners continue 'relentless search'

Golden Retriever Louie is trained to alert the family when teen Ellie Lynn is about to have an epileptic seizure. The family of a support dog missing for two weeks has opened up on the 'relentless search' they've carried out for their beloved pet. Louie the two-year-old Golden Retriever is trained to let the family of teenager Elie Lynn know when she is about to have an epileptic seizure. Desperate, the family have left dirty clothing and food around the area to try to lure their pup to safety. ‌ The pooch is now much more than a help for the 17-year-old, becoming "a huge part" of the youngster's family, leaving them heartbroken at his absence. ‌ He has been missing since Monday, May 26, when he slipped free from his choker while walking up Glen Nevis, in Fort William. The family say they are absolutely desperate to bring him home. Despite regularly searching for him in the 16 days since he vanished, Louie is still missing. The family were given hope after hearing barking up the Glen on Sunday, June 8. Owner Louise Manson told the Record today: "It's been an absolute struggle. My 12-year-old daughter, Lara, has been out searching relentlessly with me. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! " Ellie has found the two weeks so hard, it would give her security and her companion back. Home isn't home without him, it would mean the absolute world for him to come home for all of us." ‌ A Facebook group, called Official search page for finding Louie, was set up to try and help track him down, with members of the public helping in the searches. Louise wrote on Monday: "Update, more barking has been heard yesterday, but it could be coming from anywhere. Which is a positive. We have been given other positive information which indicates he's 100% alive yesterday. ‌ "We were out again last night at steall falls until late. Clothes out, food has been left and a wildlife camera. In the hope we can narrow down his location and get him home. "We think with the falls being so busy, he's scared and in hiding during the day. We have been told, shouting his name may make him want to hide further away. So its a case of just seeing where he is and trying to tempt him. "We are confident we will get him home…it's just taking longer than hoped. Again thank you for help, messaging, searching and all your kind words. Its all helping so much at this time." ‌ Posting on the group previously, she wrote: "Just putting it out there. On Monday the 26th of May, if anyone was up Glen Nevis and steall falls. "Has anyone has taken Louie, out of good will thinking he was abandoned, a stray or injured or he followed you on a walk and has become your companion. Please return him. We will travel to collect. This has broken our hearts. "Our home isn't home without him. If you pm us no one will need to know. We just need him home. He was originally my daughters therapy dog for her epilepsy but has become a huge part of our wee family."
