EAST PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — One local bar and grill is hosting an event for dog lovers and car enthusiasts alike.
Meadows Avenue Tap in East Peoria is putting on their Tips For Taps event on Saturday, which will feature Rusty Rockers' classic cars along with motorcycles and bands performing live music.
The event is held to raise money for taps, which Tori Menke, executive director, said is vital for their shelter.
'Fundraising is huge,' Menke said. 'It's the only reason our doors are still open is from all the fundraising. So it's awesome when our community kind of helps us in that regard. They're really doing the heavy lifting when it comes to the fundraising portion and at an event like this.'

Adoptable dogs will be at the fundraiser looking for their forever home, as most shelters have an influx of dogs right now.
'Intake is up and adoptions are down,' Menke said. 'It could be this time of year. People are planning vacations, trying to get end of school year stuff done, so adopting a pet is the last thing on their mind.'
Anybody who goes to the event will also be able to eat from the open grill which will cook up brats, butterfly porkchops and ribeye steaks.
The event goes from noon until 8 p.m. with music set to play the whole time.

Elmwood Strawberry Festival returns to celebrate local heritage

ELMWOOD, Ill. (WMBD) — A tradition spanning decades is coming back to the city of Elmwood this weekend. The Elmwood Strawberry Festival is happening on Saturday, June 7th. Tara Lim and Emily Brunnelson from the festival's planning committee stopped by WMBD This Morning to talk about the event. According to Lim, the city used to have a strawberry farm, and the festival began as a way to promote that. But the scope of the event grew over time, now bringing in the entire town. 'It has since shifted into, 'here's what Elmwood has to offer,' and also we want to grow our future,' Lim said. The event kicks off with a strawberry pancake breakfast at 6 a.m. From there, events including a vendor fair, car show and 5K race happen all day long. The festival's food tent opens at 10 a.m. and runs until 5 p.m., offering pork chops, hot dogs, and of course, strawberry treats. There will also be live music throughout the event, with the River Valley Big Band and The Aristocrats playing a variety of songs while visitors check out the festival. The Elmwood Strawberry Festival will rock downtown this Saturday. For more details, you can check out the festival's Facebook page. Love WMBD This Morning? We love you, too. Summer reading program returns to the Bloomington Public Library

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (WMBD) — People of all ages can participate in the Bloomington Public Library's Summer Reading Program. The program started on May 27 and will continue through July 28, according to library spokesperson Rhonda Massie. Those interested in participating can pick up a reading log from the library or the Bookmobile. They can also be printed out at home by visiting the library's website. Kids, teens and adults have their own reading logs to fill out, which will get them the chance to take home prizes if they complete the log before the end of the summer. Prizes will be distributed from June 9 to the end of the program in July. Last year, the library set a record with 5,330 people completing the program. Massie said that was a more than 16% increase over the previous record. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Gabriel ‘Fluffy' Iglesias is set to return to the stage at the Peoria Civic Center

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — The Peoria Civic Center has announced that comedian Gabriel Iglesias is coming back to Peoria in October. Iglesias, who is also known by the nickname 'Fluffy,' has added Peoria for one of the stops on his most recent tour, The 1976 Tour: A Fluffy Celebration on Oct. 18, the civic center said in a Facebook post. Iglesias is one of the world's most successful stand-up comedians and one of the highest-grossing touring comedians of all time. He is one of the most watched comedians on YouTube, with over 2 billion views and over 34.6 million fans across social media. He was the 3rd highest-grossing comedian of 2024 according to Billboard,' Kelsy Martin, a civic center spokeswoman, said. He has also been named the Hollywood Reporter's 'Top 40 Comedy Players,' joining the likes of Jerry Seinfeld, Chris Rock, and Lorne Michaels, she said. Iglesias stars in the Netflix series Mr. Iglesias, where he is a high school teacher and has released four stand-up specials with the streaming platform, she said. 'We're thrilled to welcome Gabriel Iglesias back to the Peoria Civic Center. Comedy continues to be a very strong portion of our event calendar thanks to talent like Mr. Iglesias,' Martin said. 'He's one of many comedians who we've seen sell out shows in our Theater and are now continuing to have fantastic turnouts in our Arena as well. These success shows continue to put Peoria on the map and make Peoria Civic Center a must-play tour stop.' To put a topper on all he has accomplished, on March 11, 2025, he received his own handprint ceremony at the TCL Chinese Theater, which recognized his impressive career, she said. Tickets will go on sale through the PCC Insider Presale at noon on Wednesday, June 4, and for the general public at noon on Friday, June 6, and can be purchased here, the post said.
