IIT Goa on mind, govt begins land demarcation at sugar factory site
Panaji:
State govt started the demarcation of land at Sanjivani sugar factory site in Dharbandora to set up a permanent campus for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Goa. A senior govt officer said they will complete the demarcation soon.
The demarcation of land is being done, keeping aside the encroachment on the land. Once the demarcation is completed, the proposal will be sent to Union govt. The site inspection team will then visit the site to decide whether it is suitable for setting up the permanent IIT Goa campus.
State govt directed the South Goa collector to conduct a field survey of the land belonging to the sugar factory to detect any encroachment.
Initially, govt decided to restart the sugar factory and reserved the surrounding area for it. Then, govt approved the setting up of the permanent campus of IIT Goa.
A senior officer said that a plot of 10 lakh sqm is necessary for setting up IIT Goa. Chief minister Pramod Sawant ordered a field survey to ascertain encroachment claims, if any, and the submission of a report so that the plot can be handed over to IIT Goa, the officer said.

reported that state govt shortlisted the land belonging to Sanjivani Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana Ltd at Dharbandora to execute its plan to set up the permanent campus of IIT Goa. State govt first transferred the land belonging to the sugar factory to set up the campus of International Law University, but now, it has decided to shift the university to Mayem. The land allotted to the university, as well as additional land, will be utilised to set up IIT Goa's permanent campus.
IIT Goa became operational in the state in 2016 and has been functioning from a temporary campus on Goa Engineering College premises at Farmagudi. Several land parcels identified for the permanent campus project over the years were either rejected by the Union education ministry's site selection committee or faced protests from locals due to several reasons.

CM says ONGC to permanently cap leaking well in Sivasagar, US team in Assam
1 2 3 4 5 6 Dibrugarh: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday announced that the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) will permanently cap its leaking crude oil well in Sivasagar district after two emergency efforts failed to contain the gas blowout. "Plan A and B failed to control the escalating gas leak crisis at ONGC's Rudrasagar Field in Sivasagar. Today morning ONGC chairman informed me that the company will activate Plan C, which is permanent capping of the well for controlling the gas leak," Sarma said. "Capping of the well will begin tomorrow and will be carried out in consultation with the US experts. It is expected to be completed within the next four or five days," Sarma said. A three-member team from Cudd Well Control, USA, arrived in Sivasagar on Friday afternoon to assist with the crisis. The involvement of the US specialists marks a significant escalation in containment efforts, as nearly 350 families remain displaced in relief camps due to the prolonged emergency. Multiple containment attempts, including several "junk shot" operations by ONGC's crisis management team, have failed to stop the hazardous gas discharge. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The US team, known for its expertise in well control and blowouts, began site assessments immediately upon arrival. "The international experts were given a detailed briefing on the situation and past efforts. They've conducted a firsthand assessment of the site and will begin their specialised intervention on Saturday morning," said a senior ONGC official. Following high-level consultations with ONGC leadership, the American team proceeded to the site for a detailed situational analysis to determine the advanced techniques required to cap the well safely. Meanwhile, ONGC engineers have been preparing for the capping effort by clearing non-essential equipment and developing an alternate access route to facilitate safer movement around the volatile zone. The ongoing crisis has raised concerns over environmental fallout and the wellbeing of displaced residents. The Sivasagar district administration continues to coordinate with ONGC to support for the 350 affected families staying in relief camps. "We are providing all necessary assistance to the families and remain in close coordination with ONGC's emergency team. Our top priority is public safety and supporting the well-control operations," said Sivasagar deputy commissioner Ayush Garg. The Rudrasagar oil field is a key production asset for ONGC in Assam, but operations have been halted while containment efforts continue.

1 crore lies dormant as govt sits on prepaid auto policy
1 2 Jaipur: The state govt has delayed implementing a policy for pre-paid auto-rickshaw stands for nearly five years. As a result, a nationalised bank in Jaipur has declared the account—meant for managing these stands—dormant due to lack of transactions over an extended period. According to members of auto-rickshaw associations, the account holds around Rs1 crore, collected as a Rs2 service charge from commuters at pre-paid stands. The amount was meant to serve as a benevolent fund for auto drivers and their families but remains untouched in the absence of a clear policy. "It was the Congress govt who introduced the pre-paid auto rickshaw stands in the city way back in 1999, but suddenly, after 21 years, the Congress govt again closed these pre-paid booths, citing there is no pre-paid booth policy in the state. Since then, this bank account is lying unused and was declared dormant by the bank," said Kuldeep Singh, president of an auto rickshaw association in Jaipur. The account was opened in 1999 with the Chaura Rasta branch of a nationalised bank. Two representatives of the transport department and two representatives of the two auto rickshaw associations were the signatories. An old-timer recalled that in 1999, the Congress govt started these pre-paid booths with three aims. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Dermatologist: Just Add 1 Drop Of This Household Item To Any Dark Spot And Wait 3 Minutes Undo First, to ensure that the passengers, especially at the railway station, airport, and Sindhi Camp bus stands, need not bargain with the drivers and can pay govt-approved fare at these booths. Second, to keep a record of the drivers and the passengers along with the items they are carrying with them for security reasons. Third, to utilise the service charge accumulated from these booths for the welfare of the auto drivers and their families. "The fare at these pre-paid booths was on par with the metered fare. Passengers needed to pay a service charge of Rs 2 for pre-paid autos, and this charge remained the same till these booths were withdrawn. For 21 years, a service charge amounting to more than Rs 80 lakhs was collected and deposited in the bank account. We did not utilise a single penny in the 21 years, and now the account has been declared dormant," stated Umrao Quershi, the President of the second auto rickshaw union in Jaipur.
