PJD denounces energy deal with Israeli firm off the Sahara

Ya Biladi16-03-2025

The Justice and Development Party (PJD) strongly opposes the agreement signed between Morocco and an Israeli company for oil and gas exploration in the Sahara. This stance was expressed in a statement released by the party's General Secretariat on Saturday, March 15. In their statement, the Islamists described NewMed Energy as a «Zionist company» and see the agreement as further evidence of «the continuous Zionist infiltration in our country».
The PJD also condemns the participation of «ministers, officials, and delegations from the criminal Zionist entity» in official events organized by Morocco, citing the 7th edition of the Halieutis International Fair in Agadir and the 4th edition of the Global Ministerial Conference on Road Safety in Marrakech.
Notably, just weeks after Morocco and Israel resumed diplomatic relations—formalized on December 10, 2020—the Moroccan government initiated negotiations with Israeli authorities to explore cooperation in the energy sector. At the time, the government was led by Saad-Eddine El Othmani, with Aziz Rabbah, also a PJD member, serving as Minister of Energy and Mines.

Gaza: Madrid Gathers European, Arab Countries to Halt Israel's Genocide

Rabat — A high-level meeting on Sunday brought together European and Arab countries' representatives to explore ways to put pressure on Israel to stop its Genocide on Gaza. The meeting of the 'Madrid Group' comes as Israeli Occupation Forces' (IOF) intensify their genocidal bombardment of innocent civilians in the Palestinian enclave. Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manual Albares said that his country urges an arms embargo against Israel to end its assaults in Gaza. The aim of the gathering that brought together 20 countries and international organizations in the European country is to pressure Israel to stop its genocidal war, 'which no longer has any goal,' Albares said. Israel is losing on the diplomatic ground as countries in the European Union that it had long considered close allies have been joining the international bloc condemning IOF assaults and its humanitarian and food aid blockade on Gaza. Albares further spoke of the possibility of imposing targeted sanctions on parties 'who obstruct the two-state solution.' Speaking to reporters at Sunday's meeting, the Spanish FM said the gathering aimed to halt what he described as Israel's 'inhumane' and 'senseless' genocide on Gaza. 'The last thing the Middle East needs right now is weapons,' he noted, adding that 'silence in these moments is complicity in this massacre…' Ministers and senior representatives from organizations and countries in Europe — including France, the UK, Germany, and Italy — and the Arab world took part in the meeting, in addition to Brazil and Turkey. France and Saudi Arabia are set to preside over a UN conference on June 18 to address Palestinian statehood. According to reports, French President Emmanuel Macron plans to urge participants to 'work toward implementing the two-state solution.' Mounting calls against Israel's genocide The last weeks have seen mounting calls on the international community to take action against Israel to stop. Following Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's vow to take 'full control of all of Gaza,' many have said that now is the time for world governments to force the Israeli government to order the end of its troops' genocide assaults on the Palestinian enclave. Last Monday, the UK, France, and Canada joined forces in a strong shift of their policy towards Israel. They warned of targeted sanctions if Israel does not halt its genocidal actions and allow for the immediate entry of food and humanitarian aid to Gaza. In a joint statement, the three countries lamented Israel's intensified expansion plan for Gazans, saying it is 'illegal and undermine[s] the viability of a Palestinian state and the security of both Israelis and Palestinians.' Also lamenting the inhumane situation in the war-torn enclave, the UK slammed Israel for denying 'essential humanitarian assistance to the civilian population.' Such behavior is 'unacceptable and risks breaching International Humanitarian Law,' the UK government fumed in the statement. Israel's expansion of its genocidal war will lead to 'permanent forced displacement,' the three countries said in their joint statement, condemning the move as a blatant 'breach of international humanitarian law.' EU Gulf Envoy Commends Morocco's Two-State Solution Leadership

Doha – The European Union's special envoy for the Gulf, Luigi Di Maio, praised Morocco's pivotal role in advancing the two-state solution during the fifth Global Alliance meeting in Rabat on Tuesday. The former Italian foreign minister expressed gratitude for Morocco's 'generous hospitality' in co-organizing the gathering with the Netherlands. Di Maio described the Rabat meeting as the 'first joint initiative outside the initial group of co-organizers' of the alliance working toward lasting regional peace. He called for 'concrete actions' supporting Palestinian state sovereignty. The alliance aims to prepare for the high-level conference on the two-state solution scheduled at UN headquarters in New York next month, which will be co-organized by Saudi Arabia and France. 'We are fully committed to collaborating with the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands, as well as with all partners gathered here,' Di Maio stated. He warned that the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the alarming situation in the West Bank risk seriously compromising the viability of the two-state solution. More than 50 countries and international organizations participated in the Rabat discussions. Palestinian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Farsin Aghabekian Shaheen also thanked King Mohammed VI for his efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause. She said Morocco's hosting of the meeting reflects the country's sustained efforts to make Palestinian statehood a concrete reality. 'We rely enormously on this kind of meetings,' she noted, particularly during Palestine's current delicate situation, plagued by genocide. The meeting contributes to efforts to implement the two-state solution and enrich preparations for the New York conference. On his turn, Arab League Deputy Secretary-General Hossam Zaki affirmed that the two-state solution forms the foundation of the Arab Peace Initiative. 'We still believe in this solution and continue to support it as the basis for peace in the Middle East,' he said. Zaki reminded attendees of Gaza's catastrophic situation due to continued Israeli aggression and attempts to forcibly displace the population. He called this out as a violation of international law and humanitarian principles. 'The only option where there are no losers' For Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, the two-state solution is positioned as the cornerstone for Middle East stability. He described it as 'the only option where there are no losers' because Palestinians gain freedom and dignity, Israelis gain security and stability, and the entire region benefits from development opportunities. Bourita insisted the solution requires a concrete roadmap with precise timelines and clear, responsible steps. The minister rejected treating the two-state solution as an empty slogan or diplomatic maneuvering. He noted that extremists from all sides lose with implementation because they feed off conflict. Morocco maintains this vision under King Mohammed VI's leadership as head of the Al-Quds Committee. The North African country's diplomacy works determinedly to bring viewpoints closer and increase chances for just peace. Morocco's approach to Palestinian support combines diplomatic initiatives with practical ground projects. The Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency strengthens Jerusalem residents' resilience through projects covering daily life aspects, including food, medical care, and education. Bourita stressed that economic support cannot substitute for political solutions. The country seeks fundamental conflict treatment rather than temporary pain relief. The Global Alliance operates on three main axes. First, it draws from past successes to converge toward a promising future. Second, it strengthens institutional support for the Palestinian National Authority under President Mahmoud Abbas. Third, it anchors economic dimensions in the peace process. Bourita called economic foundations essential for sustainable peace, while maintaining that sovereignty cannot be conditioned. The meeting produced concrete political recommendations supporting diplomatic efforts and strengthening conditions for two-state solution implementation. The Global Alliance launched during the UN General Assembly's high-level week in September 2024. This fifth meeting follows previous gatherings in Riyadh, Brussels, Oslo, and Cairo. The initiative positions itself as a diplomatic platform dedicated to effectively relaunching the Israeli-Palestinian peace process. Tags: Morocco and Palestinetwo-state solution

IOF Attack on Foreign Diplomats: PJD Urges Government to Cut Ties with Israel

Rabat – Morocco's Justice and Development Party (PJD) condemned the targeting of a high-level diplomatic delegation by Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF), which opened fire towards ambassadors, including the Moroccan envoy to Palestine, Abderrahim Meziane, during their visit to the Jenin refugee camp. Recalling in a statement on Wednesday that the attack nearly cost the life of the ambassador, PJD strongly condemned the 'criminal act' that 'once again reveals the brutal nature of this entity that shows no regard for international law or diplomatic norms.' Expressing solidarity with the Moroccan ambassador, PJD renewed its demand, calling on the Moroccan government to sever all ties with Israel and cancel all the agreements with the 'Zionist entity.' 'We also call for the closure of the liaison office and the expulsion of its representative, as well as the closure of the Moroccan liaison office in the entity,' the statement added, urging the government to take all necessary and urgent steps to pressure Israel to end its brutal genocidal war against civilians in Gaza. On Wednesday, a viral video documented the moment when IOF opened fire on foreign diplomats visiting a camp in the occupied West Bank. The occupation government admitted to firing shots, claiming they were 'Warning shots.' The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack, noting that the act came during a field tour around the camp to witness the 'extent of the suffering endured by the residents of the area.' The Israeli forces justified their acts by claiming that the delegation had moved into an 'unauthorized' area, adding that their firing of shots at the delegation caused no injuries or damage. Along with other Moroccan political parties and Moroccan citizens, PJD has been calling on the Moroccan government to sever ties with Israel. Even long before the OF launched its genocidal war against Palestinians in October 2023, the party had been a vocal critic of the normalization of relations between Rabat and Tel Aviv. Since the genocidal atrocities, Moroccans took to the streets on many occasions, denouncing the aggressions and calling on the government to end ties with Israel. Morocco re-established relations with Israel in December 2020. Upon announcing the decision, King Mohammed VI explicitly renewed the country's constant support of the Palestinian cause. In recent years and months, the Moroccan monarch has consistently described the creation of an independent Palestinian state as a priority for Morocco. In response to claims and accusations of Morocco's betrayal of Palestine, King Mohammed VI has repeatedly insisted that support for the Palestinian cause is part and parcel of Morocco's identity as a nation. In a message to the recent Arab League summit in Iraq, the monarch condemned IOF's latest attacks, urging for the revival of negotiations for an immediate ceasefire. Tags: children of GazaIOF
