Air travel faces significant disruptions due to the Israel-Iran conflict, leading to flight cancellations and rerouting. The recent Boeing Dreamliner crash has heightened safety concerns, prompting airlines and travel agencies to prioritize stringent safety measures and certifications. Air travel, especially to Europe and the US, is currently fraught with uncertainty, as the Israel-Iran conflict has pushed several airlines to cancel or reschedule flights on a large scale. On the other hand, the fatal Boeing Dreamliner crash in Ahmedabad on June 12 has become a major source of anxiety, especially for Indian flyers. Even airlines are taking extra precautions, resulting in two Dreamliners – a British Airways London-Chennai flight (June 15), and an Air India Hong Kong-New Delhi flight (June 16) – returning to base soon after take-off following technical snags. Here's what travel agencies told about the current scenario. People are ready to pay extra to ensure a safe flight. Our clients are not only asking about safety certifications, but also about pilot training undertaken by airlines – Komal Yadavv, manager at a travel agency 'Compliance to safety certifications is non-negotiable' In light of the June 12 Air India flight 171 crash and other recent incidents, travel agencies are keeping a strict watch on airlines' operational safety standards. 'We only partner with airlines that share safety performance matrix,' says Kavya Dutta, director & owner, Barganzaa Travel Company, adding, 'Trusted agents will only work with airlines that hold IOSA* certification. For international carriers, it is necessary to prioritise EASA** compliance. ' 'Travel insurance a must' Check flight status before leaving for airport Maintain contact with your agent, especially for cancellations and emergencies Make sure you have a travel insurance that covers you not just for accidents but also delays and disruptions – Zakauddin of Holiday Hub 'Keep extra time in hand for layovers and diversions' According to travel operators, given the closure of Iran, Iraq and Jordan airspaces, flyers to Europe or the US need to keep extra time in hand. 'We are asking flyers to keep at least 48 hours in hand when taking long-haul flights,' says Saif Bakhtiyar, a Delhi based travel curator. To this Komal Yadavv, manager at added, 'The longer routes require extra fuel, which is impacting fares, and also having a cascading effect on the time taken to travel. ' Cancellations hit conflict zones Iraq, Iran, Jordan and Syria closed their airspace following the airstrikes Flydubai flights to Iraq, Iran, Israel and Syria are suspended till June 30 Emirates has suspended flights to Jordan and Lebanon till June 22 and Iran till June 30 Almost all major airlines have suspended their flights to Tel Aviv Europe-bound flights from India and Southeast Asia are taking longer routes via Central Asia or Egypt and the Mediterranean. These flights are facing average delays of 45 to 90 minutes US-bound flights are being rerouted via Saudi Arabia, Egypt, or northern Africa, to avoid risk zones. This has led to flight delays ranging from 90 minutes to 3 hours Our suggestion to flyers with compulsions and to tourists is to book flights only with major airlines and keep the trips short. Avoid multiple layovers, and when possible, book non-stop flights – Anil Punjabi, National Committee member, Travel Agents Federation of India Most European destinations and flights from North America to India are affected. This is peak travel time & last-minute cancellations aren't feasible. We're getting lot of queries about flight disruptions & longer flying hours – Akash Rastogi, Gurgaon-based travel agent We're in constant touch with my sister, who is touring east Europe. Flight delays have derailed her plans– Natalie Pote, Kolkata This Flight Radar 24 live map shows flights navigating around the high-risk and conflict zones (in red) over Israel, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq and Iran at 1.10pm on June 19 There has been a 20% rise in flight fares due to rerouting*** Flight routes to and from the Gulf region are facing delays & congestion*** There has been a rise in demand for emergency exit seats since the AI171 crash***

Nvidia, Foxconn in talks to deploy humanoid robots at Houston AI server making plant

Live Events Taiwan's Foxconn and US artificial intelligence chips maker Nvidia are in talks to deploy humanoid robots at a new Foxconn factory in Houston that will produce Nvidia AI servers, two sources familiar with the matter would be the first time that an Nvidia product will be made with the assistance of humanoid robots and would be Foxconn's first AI server factory to use them on a production line, the sources said.A deployment, expected to be finalised in the coming months, would mark a milestone in the adoption of the human-like robots that promises to transform manufacturing is developing its own humanoid robots with Nvidia and has also trialed humanoids made by China's UBTech. The sources said it was not clear what type of humanoid robots are being planned for use in the Houston factory, what they will look like or how many will be deployed said the two companies are aiming to have the humanoid robots at work by the first quarter of next year when Foxconn's new Houston factory will begin production of Nvidia's GB300 AI while it was not clear what exactly the robots will be doing at the factory, Foxconn has been training them to pick and place objects, insert cables and do assembly work, according to a company presentation in Houston factory was ideally suited to deploy humanoid robots because it will be new and have more space than other existing AI server manufacturing sites, one of the sources and Foxconn declined to sources did not wish to be identified as they are not authorised to speak to the Guo, general manager of the robotics business unit at Foxconn Industrial Internet, a subsidiary of Foxconn that is in charge of the group's AI server business, said last month at an industry event in Taipei that Foxconn plans to showcase at the company's annual technology event in November two versions of humanoid robots that it has of those will be with legs and the other will use a wheeled autonomous mobile robot (AMR) base, which would cost less than the version with legs, he said, without disclosing announced in April that it planned to build AI supercomputer manufacturing factories in Texas, partnering with Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas. Both sites are expected to ramp up production within 12 to 15 Nvidia, using humanoid robots in the manufacturing of its AI servers represents a further push into the technology as it already supplies humanoid makers with a platform they can use to build such CEO Jensen Huang predicted in March that their wide use in manufacturing facilities was less than five years such as Germany's Mercedes-Benz and BMW have tested the use of humanoids on production lines, while Tesla is developing its own. China has also thrown its weight behind humanoids, betting that many factory tasks will eventually be performed by such robots.

Indian aviation set to grow by 10% by FY2026, but financial losses likely to persist: ICRA report

Representative image India's aviation sector is projected to continue growing in FY2026, with domestic air passenger traffic expected to rise by 7–10% year-on-year, reaching between 175 and 181 million passengers, according to a report by ICRA. This projection follows a 7.6% increase in FY2025, when domestic traffic touched 165.4 million, marking a strong recovery at 16.8% above pre-pandemic levels recorded in FY2020. However, despite the steady growth in passenger numbers, the industry is likely to remain in the red. ICRA estimates a net loss of Rs 20,000–30,000 crore in FY2026, in line with the losses expected for FY2025. This is a sharp contrast to the Rs 1,600 crore net profit posted in FY2024, said ANI citing the report. According to the report, continued financial strain is being driven by elevated operating costs, including high aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices and increasing lease obligations tied to new aircraft acquisitions. While the interest coverage ratio—a measure of a company's ability to meet interest payments—is forecast to improve to between 1.5 and 2.0 times, it still reflects a cautious outlook. In FY2025, Indian carriers flew 33.86 million international passengers, a 14.1% rise over the previous year and nearly 49% higher than the FY2020 figure. Recent monthly data supports this growth trend. Domestic air travel in May 2025 was estimated at 14.36 million passengers, representing a 4.1% increase over May 2024. However, traffic remained largely stable compared to April 2025. Airlines also expanded capacity by 5.1% year-on-year during the month. Despite positive trends in traffic and capacity, ICRA cautioned that profitability will remain under pressure. Persistent high fixed costs, elevated fuel prices, and increased interest expenses from aircraft leasing are expected to weigh heavily on financial performance. Additionally, carriers may face pressure on yields as they work to sustain high passenger load factors amid rising operating costs.
