Texas takes rubber match from Oklahoma to end regular season
For the second time in three days, the Oklahoma baseball fell apart in the late innings against Texas and dropped the game. Saturday's loss meant the Sooners dropped the series, two games to one, to end the regular season.
OU finished its first-ever Southeastern Conference regular season with a 14-16 record, good for 12th in the league. The Sooners will play the 13th-place finisher, Kentucky, in the first round of the SEC Tournament on Tuesday at a time to be determined.
Texas and Oklahoma went into the seventh inning Saturday tied, 1-1. But the Longhorns struck dinked and dunked their way to three runs in the frame to break things open. A hit batter, a single and a wild pitch gave Texas runners on second and third base with no outs. Casey Borba broke the tie by hitting into a fielder's choice. After a walk, Rylan Galvan was hit by a pitch to force across another run. Adrian Rodriguez followed with an RBI single before the Sooners finally came to bat.
Jaxon Willits, Jason Walk and Scott Mudler all struck out swinging and Texas scored two more runs in the eighth and three in the ninth to rub salt in the wound.
Oklahoma struggled to make contact all day. The Sooners collected just two hits with their lone run coming on Easton Carmichael's solo homer in the fourth.

Malachi Witherspoon did what he could on OU's mound and was excellent for six innings. He struggled to start the seventh, though, and finished with 6 1/3 innings pitched, tagged for four runs on four hits and three walks while striking out 10.

Evan Carter and Jake Burger each finished a triple short of the cycle as the Texas Rangers beat the slumping Washington Nationals 4-2 on Sunday. Carter hit a two-run homer, doubled and singled his first three times up, but struck out in the eighth inning. Burger doubled, flied out and singled before providing an insurance run with a homer in the eighth. Washington starter Trevor Williams (3-7) gave up three runs — two earned — and six hits in 4 1/3 innings. The first pitch was delayed by rain for 1 hour, 40 minutes. Marcus Semien reached on a bad-hop single leading off the second and Carter homered one out later to make it 2-0. Call homered leading off the fourth. Amed Rosario walked and scored on a fielder's choice to tie it. Semien's groundout brought home Josh Smith with the go-ahead run in the fifth. Smith doubled with one out and went to third on an error. Jacob Latz started for Texas and gave up two runs on two hits in 3 1/3 innings while striking out eight. After the walk to Rosario, manager Bruce Bochy and an athletic trainer came out and Latz left with the trainer. Latz, who had a cut on his thumb, said he was fine after the game. Call reached on an error with two outs in the eighth, but Garcia entered and got James Wood to ground out. Semien had two hits and is 15 for 27 (.517) with three homers, nine RBIs and 10 runs scored in his last nine games. ... Rangers shortstop Corey Seager is hitless in his last 25 at-bats. Rangers: RHP Tyler Mahle (5-3, 2.02 ERA) pitches the opener of a three-game series at Minnesota on Tuesday. Nationals: LHP MacKenzie Gore (3-5, 2.87) starts the first of three games at the New York Mets on Tuesday.

Former Cleveland Browns running back Nick Chubb, who is a free agent, is expected to sign with the Houston Texans on Monday, according to league sources. It is expected to be a one-year deal and is contingent on Chubb passing a physical. Chubb received more lucrative offers from other teams, but he would sign a more incentive-laden contract to join Joe Mixon in Houston's backfield. Advertisement Chubb's 2023 season was cut short by a serious knee injury in Week 2. He returned in Week 7 of the 2024 season, but would wind up missing the final three games that season with a broken foot. Texas lands commitment from four-star Waxahachie WR Kohen Brown Texas is having quite the weekend on the recruiting trial. They landed four-star defensive lineman Dylan Berymon late Saturday night. On Sunday, they landed another four-star prospect on wide receiver Kohen Brown out of Waxahachie, Texas. Brown is the 11th commitment for the Longhorns for their 2026 class. After having the top-ranked in , Texas has some work to do to hit that level in 2026. That class is currently ranked 20th overall. The 6-foot, 190-pounder is the No. 244 recruit nationally and the No. 32 wide receiver according to Rivals. They also have deemed him the No. E4 prospect in the state of Texas. Brown had a breakout campaign in 2024. He registered 1,084 yards on 54 receptions and scored 11 touchdowns. Brown gained 138 yards rushing as well and put up two more scores. The Longhorns are adding speed at the receiver position with tbe addition of Brown. We're not talking regular speed either, but track speed. He ran a 10.69 in the 100-meter dash as a junior per MileSplit.
