CFL teams look to London for 7 picks in 2025 draft
Six members of the Western Mustangs and Londoner Taylor Elgersma heard their names called on Tuesday in the 2025 CFL Draft.
Three of those players were taken in Round 2.
Erik Andersen was the first Mustang off the board at 13th overall, as the big offensive lineman was chosen by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Andersen will attend a rookie minicamp with the New York Giants after receiving an invitation before draft night.
The B.C. Lions selected Western defensive back Jackson Findlay at 16 and he now has a chance to continue an incredible family tradition.
Findlay's great-grandfather played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in 1935. Findlay's grandfather was a member of the Lions when they won their first Grey Cup. Findlay's uncle was a linebacker for B.C. and Saskatchewan and Findlay's own father was a defensive back with the Roughriders.

Winnipeg selected quarterback Elgersma 18th overall in the second round.
Elgersma is also drawing National Football League interest. He had 17 NFL teams send representatives to his pro day and received invitations from the Green Bay Packers and Buffalo Bills to attend rookie minicamps with them.
Just as Findlay will have a chance to go back home out west, Mustangs running back Keanu Yazbeck will get a chance to return home to Quebec after the Montreal Alouettes took him in the fourth round at number 35 overall.
Offensive lineman Alex Berwick was chosen by B.C. in the seventh round with the 59th overall selection.
Finally, in a third story of hometown star returns, Western defensive lineman Max Von Mueldorfer went two picks later to the Calgary Stampeders. The Alberta native took up weightlifting at a gym in Calgary when he was younger and became one of the best weightlifters in the country. Von Mueldorfer has a U20 Pan American Games title under his belt representing Canada and will now have a chance to represent his home city on the football field.
Rookie camps in the CFL will begin May 7, with training camps opening on May 11.

The pre-season begins May 19 with a game between Calgary and B.C. that could see as many as three Western Mustangs on the field.

TORONTO — Toronto Argonauts personnel will have two ways to commemorate the franchise's 2024 Grey Cup championship. Players, coaches and team staff received their custom-made championship rings Sunday. The Argos captured a CFL-record 19th title in November with a 41-24 win over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at B.C. Place Stadium. A unique element of the item, crafted by Baron Championship Rings, is the detachment feature of its top, allowing the wearer to transform the piece into a pendant by attaching it to a chain. Upon detachment, the top reveals an engraving of the quote 'an underdog is a hungry dog ready to eat,' referencing receiver DaVaris Daniels' speech from the '24 championship rally. Opposite of the engraving, the interior features a detailed tribute to the stadium where the Argos earned their victory. 'Last season, the team rose to a new level of dedication, perseverance and teamwork in their pursuit of adding another Grey Cup to the Argonauts' rich championship history,' said Argos GM Michael (Pinball) Clemons. 'A championship ring is a permanent reminder of a special season and a special achievement, and it will bring the team together again this season as we look forward to building on that success.' The ring itself features several unique elements, including the face showcasing the Grey Cup trophy in addition to the Argos' logo being encrusted with diamonds. The left shoulder includes detailing of Toronto landmarks, including the CN Tower, City Hall and BMO Field, the club's home stadium. The right shoulder is personalized for each of the players with their name and number sitting atop of a jersey motif and boat oars that symbolize the franchise's origins as the Argonaut Rowing Club. At the bridge of the ring is the player's signature, along with the final score and date of the game. The outside bottom shank captures another one of the team's mottoes 'Start 2 Finish.' On the upper side, the design includes numeral detailing of '111,' in reference to the 111th Grey Cup game. On the bottom is the number '24' for the year, with a sapphire bejewelled wave set above it. Nineteen radiant stones wrap around the ring, symbolizing every title in Argos' history. 'Creating the 2024 Grey Cup champions ring was an incredible opportunity to celebrate the team's legacy and the pride of their fans,' said Baron president Drina Baron-Zinyk and CEO Peter Kanis in a joint statement. 'Every detail of the 2024 ring was designed to embody the grit, determination, and unforgettable moments that define this team's journey.' The Argos will distribute replicas of the '24 ring to the first 10,000 fans attending their home opener versus the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday afternoon. Article content Carey will likely replace starter A.J. Ouellette, who left Thursday's game late in the first quarter after getting hit in the head. Signing Carey was anticipated because Riders head coach Corey Mace used to be an assistant coach with the Calgary Stampeders, where he worked with the veteran running back. Mace was asked about Carey after the Argonauts unexpectedly released him during training camp. Article content 'I'm trying to find a better word, but it's a crappy situation,' Mace said last week. 'Knowing Ka'Deem though, he's a happy-go-lucky guy. I know he's got an unbelievable family back home and, you know, I wouldn't be shocked if he's playing football in the CFL this year.' Saskatchewan Roughriders sign all-star running back Ka'Deem Carey
REGINA - The Saskatchewan Roughriders have signed all-star running back Ka'Deem Carey, the CFL club announced Monday. Carey was a CFL East all-star with Toronto last season after rushing for a team-high 1,060 yards with seven touchdowns. He had 79 yards and a TD in the Argonauts' 41-24 Grey Cup victory over Winnipeg. However, he was among Toronto's final round of cuts before the start of the season. ARTICLE CONTINUES BELOW The move comes after Riders running back A.J. Ouellette left Saskatchewan's 31-26 season-opening win over Ottawa on Thursday with a suspected head injury. Before joining Toronto, Carey spent four seasons with the Calgary Stampeders. He helped the Stamps win a Grey Cup as a rookie in 2018 and led the CFL in rushing in both 2021 and 2022, earning a CFL all-star nod in the latter season. Over 62 regular-season games, the 32-year-old from Tucson, Ariz., has totalled 3,915 rushing yards and 26 touchdowns.
