Kerala takes digital leap as CM Pinarayi Vijayan opens LuLu's IT Twin Towers in Kochi
KOCHI: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday inaugurated the LuLu Group's state-of-the-art IT Twin Towers at SmartCity, Kakkanad --- a landmark Rs 1,500-crore project that adds key momentum to the state's transformation into a digitally driven, knowledge-powered economy.
Strategically located within the SmartCity Kochi SEZ, the 152-metre-tall towers are the tallest and largest IT infrastructure in South India, offering a total built-up area of 3.5 million sqft, with 2.5 million sqft of leasable space. Designed to accommodate over 30,000 IT professionals, the towers currently house four companies -- EXL, OPI, Dynamed and Selise --- which have taken up 2.5 lakh sqft.
'Kerala is transitioning into a digitally driven economy, and landmark infrastructure projects like the LuLu IT Twin Towers are vital in attracting global tech investments and generating employment for our youth. LuLu Group's continued commitment to investing in Kerala is commendable and much appreciated in today's economic climate,' the chief minister said at the launch.
He also announced the LuLu Group's upcoming Rs 500-crore investment in a new IT tower at Infopark Phase 2, which will span 9.5 lakh sqft and is expected to create 7,500 additional jobs, further boosting Kerala's IT sector.
LuLu Group chairman Yusuffali M A described the twin towers as 'a symbol of our vision to make Kerala a competitive hub for global technology players' and emphasised the project's role in driving re-migration by creating high-quality job opportunities for youth within Kerala.
Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan called the towers 'an architectural and technological marvel' and added that the investment by LuLu Group 'inspires confidence in Kerala as a hub for high-end innovation.' State BJP chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the infrastructure 'will act as a catalyst for Kerala's digital economy and support the return of skilled professionals to the state.'
Key features of the towers include robotic parking for 4,500 vehicles, 67 high-speed elevators, a 2,500-seater food court, 600-seater conference hall, and on-site helipad.
Also present were ministers P Rajeeve and G R Anil, Hibi Eden MP, Deputy Opposition Leader P K Kunhalikutty, Uma Thomas MLA, and senior LuLu Group officials.

'Clean Air Zone' Trial To Be Launched In Delhi's Nehru Park
New Delhi: In a step towards exploring science-driven solutions for cleaning Delhi's air, Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and PWD Minister and area MLA Parvesh Verma on Sunday visited Nehru Park to review the feasibility of creating a pilot Clean Air Zone. The Delhi government is evaluating whether the installation of outdoor air purifiers across public parks can create micro-climates of significantly cleaner air, particularly during increased AQI days, said Sirsa. He said the pilot project is part of a larger exploratory study that could lead to Delhi's first Clean Air Zone, if found viable. Similar Clean Air Zones could be considered at Connaught Place, Khan Market, and other high-footfall locations. "These would be undertaken via Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships to avoid burdening public finances," the minister said. "We are conducting a study. The technology has shown promise in limited applications, and we want to understand whether it can work across larger green zones like Nehru Park. We aim to ask people if the technology is fit to work or not in their feedback," said Sirsa. "This is part of a proactive approach - testing innovation before scale, and only where it truly benefits people," he said. The 85-acre Nehru Park has been identified as a potential pilot site where 150 advanced air purification machines may be installed, subject to further analysis. These machines, already tested at select locations such as ISBTs and petrol stations, have previously demonstrated a capacity to reduce PM 2.5 levels in localised environments. Parvesh Verma, PWD Minister who is also the area MLA, underscored the government's commitment to holistic infrastructure and environment upgrades. "The Delhi Government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision, is working tirelessly to transform the capital. I want to thank the Prime Minister for the Rs 1,000 crore aid provided to rebuild, repair and upgrade Delhi's roads and infrastructure," he said. "Sirsa is constantly on the ground, personally overseeing every development and pollution-control effort. His commitment is unwavering. Together, this government is working day and night to fulfil the PM's dream of a Viksit Delhi," he said. Senior officials from the Environment Department, NDMC, and PWD accompanied the ministers during the site inspection, which included interaction with morning walkers and joggers to gather feedback. The study aims to determine whether such technology can consistently lower AQI levels by up to 50 per cent within designated areas and thus enable safer use of public spaces throughout the year. Each proposed purifier is over 9 feet tall and uses advanced filtration technology to capture harmful PM 2.5 particles. If implemented in the future, these could cover a 400-600 square meter radius and offer year-round relief to walkers, joggers, and children using the park. However, deployment will depend entirely on the results of this technical and environmental feasibility study currently being conducted, said an official.

NSEL investors forum seeks Maharashtra CM's support for Rs 1,950-crore settlement
File photo of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis (PTI) NEW DELHI: The NSEL Investors Forum (NIF) has written to Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, seeking his support for a proposed one-time settlement worth Rs 1,950 crore between investors and the National Spot Exchange Ltd (NSEL). This long-awaited settlement aims to bring major relief to thousands of traders whose funds have remained stuck since the NSEL payment crisis of July 2013. In a letter addressed to the chief minister on June 19, the forum appealed to the state government to avoid any adverse actions that could hinder the settlement process. It stated that "any decent or negative response from the State/ Competent Authority/ EOW in the NCLT might derail or delay the settlement process." To facilitate a smooth resolution, the forum has requested the state government to designate a senior legal expert with expertise in company law to represent and guide the state's stance before the NCLT. "We humbly urge the chief minister to issue necessary directions to relevant authorities and departments to avoid any hasty or negative steps that may derail or delay the proposed settlement," the forum stated. As per the settlement plan, a total of Rs 1,950 crore will be distributed among 5,682 traders in proportion to their outstanding dues as of July 31, 2024. The NCLT has already admitted the company petition, with the final hearing scheduled for July 11. NSEL, supported by its parent company 63 moons technologies, filed the Scheme of Settlement before the NCLT to facilitate this one-time, amicable, and full-and-final resolution for the affected traders. The proposal itself originated from the NSEL Investors Forum (NIF), which represents a significant portion of the impacted trading community. This is not the first time NSEL and 63 moons have attempted to offer relief. In August 2013, they disbursed around Rs 179 crore to assist 7,053 smaller traders, each with outstanding amounts of less than Rs 10 lakh. PTI
