Business Upturn24-05-2025

The 2024-25 La Liga season continues to captivate football fans as Real Madrid gear up to host Real Sociedad at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium this Saturday. With both teams aiming to secure crucial points, the spotlight will be on several standout performers who could shape the outcome of this highly anticipated encounter.
Below, we break down the top players to watch from both sides in this pivotal La Liga showdown. Real Madrid: Players to Watch 1. Kylian Mbappé
Arguably the biggest name on the pitch, Kylian Mbappé continues to prove why he's considered one of the best players in world football. The French superstar brings explosive pace, clinical finishing, and a knack for performing in big matches. Sociedad's backline will have their hands full trying to contain him. 2. Luka Modrić
The Croatian maestro remains central to Real Madrid's rhythm. His vision, control, and ability to unlock defenses make him a crucial asset in midfield. Against Sociedad's high-energy midfield, Modrić's experience will be vital. 3. Thibaut Courtois
Returning from injury, Thibaut Courtois remains one of the top shot-stoppers in Europe. His command in the box and crucial saves could be the difference-maker in a tight match. Real Sociedad: Players to Watch 1. Takefusa Kubo
The Japanese international has been a creative force for Sociedad, delivering key goals and assists throughout the season. His dribbling and quick decision-making make him a constant threat on the flanks. 2. Mikel Oyarzabal
As the captain and attacking spearhead, Oyarzabal carries the responsibility of leading Sociedad's frontline. His movement off the ball and ability to convert chances make him a danger to any defense. 3. Martín Zubimendi
Zubimendi's role as the midfield anchor is crucial in breaking up Madrid's attacks and initiating counterplays. His tactical awareness and passing range will be key for Sociedad to control the tempo.

Barcelona not interested in Man United forward despite redemption in La Liga this season

Barcelona not interested in Man United forward despite redemption in La Liga this season – report Barcelona's desire to sign a new attacker has been well-documented so far, with the club particularly keen on the services of two Premier League forwards. The two players in question are Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford. While Diaz was always thought to be expensive, Man United have now slapped a €40 million price tag on Rashford as well. Advertisement Whether or not this will prompt Barcelona to shift their attention to another alternative in the market remains to be seen. But one player they are definitely not targeting is Antony. Barcelona not interested in Antony A recent report from Diario SPORT has offered an update on the future of two Manchester United forwards in Rashford and Antony. The report reiterates that Man United have indeed put a high price on Rashford. But it has also revealed that Man United are seeking just €35 million for Antony Antony has found his calling in La Liga (Photo by) This is quite a reasonable sum for a player who has redeemed himself in La Liga. Indeed, the Brazilian, after a poor spell at Man United, joined Real Betis on loan last summer. Advertisement He hasn't had to look back since, emerging as one of Real Betis' key difference-makers in the attack this season, with a tally of nine goals and five assists for Los Beticos. However, the report clarifies that Barcelona are not interested in the services of Antony despite his redeeming form in La Liga this season. It appears the Catalans are more interested in signing Rashford, a player Hansi Flick considers more versatile and suited to Barcelona's game. This is despite the fact that valuations do seem more attractive for Antony, who is younger and has already proven himself in La Liga. But as mentioned earlier, Barça are focusing on experience and tactical flexibility, more than anything else.

Zinédine Zidane turns down Al-Hilal approach

It is hardly a secret that Zinédine Zidane is waiting for the France job. He hasn't got much longer to wait, either. Didier Deschamps has already announced that he will leave his post with Les Bleus after the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Zidane is the overwhelming favourite to succeed him in the role. The former Real Madrid manager has been out of work since leaving Los Blancos in 2021, and there is no question of taking a role before the France job becomes vacant, it seems. As per a report from L'Équipe, he has turned down a significant approach from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal in recent days. Advertisement The offer from the Gulf State was valued at €100m for a contract of just one year. It would have allowed him to depart and take the job with France the following summer. However, after a day of reflection, Zidane opted to refuse the offer. It is Simone Inzaghi who is instead expected to take the job at Al-Hilal. GFFN | Luke Entwistle

French police detain dozens after football celebrations

French authorities detained 79 people in the second such wave of arrests during celebrations following Paris Saint-Germain's football Champions League win, a police chief said Monday. The PSG thrashed Inter Milan by a record 5-0 in Saturday evening's final in Munich, flying back to Paris on Sunday for a triumphal parade along the Champs Elysees, then celebrations in a packed Parc des Princes stadium on the edge of the French capital. The PSG winning the biggest prize in European club football for the first time sparked delirious festivities in France, but was marred by violence. On Sunday, "we saw a resurgence of individuals driven by malicious intent who were not really PSG supporters," Paris police chief Laurent Nunez told RTL radio. "We arrested 79 people, some of them in the night," he said, adding that order had been restored before dawn. Some were detained over taking barriers and briefly blocking the ring road around Paris, while others had tried to vandalise businesses or fired fireworks on the Champs Elysees, he said. On Saturday night, police had made more than 500 arrests across France, the interior ministry said, after more than 200 cars were torched and police clashed with youths. In the southwest town of Dax, a 17-year-old boy died after being stabbed in the chest. A 23-year-old man riding a scooter in central Paris also died after being hit by a vehicle. A policeman was in an induced coma after being injured by a firework. Receiving the triumphant team at the Elysee palace on Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron condemned what he called "unacceptable" violence during the festivities. Many of the stars of the team, one of the youngest in the competition, are drawn from the huge football talent pool in the Paris suburbs after PSG's Qatari owners turned their back on the policy of signing star players like Neymar and Lionel Messi. A total of 11.5 million people tuned in across France to watch the match. mca/ah/yad
