Two Powerball players win $50,000 in Texas. Where were lucky tickets sold?
Two Powerball players in Texas won $50,000 each, just missing the $65 million jackpot, lottery officials say. The tickets matched four winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, June 11, the Texas Lottery said. The lucky tickets were sold at Sonik Mart in Lubbock and a Walmart Fuel Center in Universal City, about a 20-mile drive northeast from San Antonio, lottery officials said. Nobody won the grand prize, which rises to an estimated $80 million, with a cash value of about $36 million, for the next drawing Saturday, June 14, the national Powerball site said. The winning numbers were 13, 25, 29, 37 and 53, with a Powerball of 3. The Power Play multiplier was 2x. Nearly 300,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said. The Powerball jackpot was last won May 31, when a California player hit the $204.5 million grand prize. What to know about Powerball To score a jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball. The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338. Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state. Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online. Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

More than 200 feared dead after plane crashes outside airport in Indian city of Ahmedabad
More than 200 people are feared to have died after a plane bound for London crashed into a residential area shortly after taking off from an airport in India's western city of Ahmedabad. Images from the scene showed thick black smoke rising up into the sky after the Air India plane crashed, with part of the aircraft pictured resting on top of a building. Other images showed scorched trees and a fire-blackened building with first responders hosing down the area. The city police commissioner told The Associated Press (AP) that were thought to be no survivors from the crashed plane, which was carrying 242 passengers and crew members. CNN is working to independently confirm the report. 'It appears there are no survivors in the plane crash,' Commissioner G.S. Malik said, adding that, with the aircraft crashing in a residential area with offices, 'some locals would have also died.' 'Exact figures on casualties are being ascertained,' he said, according to the AP. A senior police officer told reporters that the plane had hit a doctors' hostel, according to Reuters. Air India said in a statement that of the 242 people on board, 169 were Indian nationals and 53 were British nationals. There were also seven Portuguese nationals and one Canadian national, the airline added. The flight, AI171, was bound for London's Gatwick Airport, where it was due to land at 6.25 p.m. local time (1.25 p.m. ET). A reception center has been set up at the airport to provide information and support to relatives of victims. One video captured the moment the aircraft, gaining altitude after just taking off, suddenly began to descend in mid air, before crashing down in a huge plume of fire and smoke. The plane made a Mayday call to Air Traffic Control shortly after takeoff, according to India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). 'But thereafter no response was given by the aircraft to the calls made by ATC. Aircraft immediately after departure from Runway 23, fell on ground outside the airport perimeter. Heavy black smoke was seen coming from the accident site,' the statement said. According to the DCGA statement, the flight departed at 1.39 p.m. local time (4.09 a.m. ET). The aircraft's signal was lost less than a minute after takeoff, at an altitude of 625 feet, according to FlightRadar24 data. The plane then started to descend with a vertical speed of -475 feet per minute, the data showed. All flights out of Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport were suspended following the incident. However, they have since resumed at a limited capacity, the airport said in a post on X. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the plane crash had 'stunned and saddened' the country. He described the incident as 'heartbreaking beyond words,' adding that he was in touch with the authorities involved in the disaster. Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Air India, said that Air India Flight AI171 had been involved in a 'tragic accident.' He added, 'We are doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted.' British Prime Minister Keir Starmer described the scenes as 'devastating,' and said he is 'being kept updated as the situation develops.' He added that his 'thoughts are with the passengers and their families at this deeply distressing time.' Meanwhile British Foreign Secretary David Lammy told the UK House of Commons: 'This morning, we know that British nationals were on board. And Mr. Speaker, I can confirm that the (Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office) is working urgently with local authorities to support British nationals and their families, and has stood up a crisis team in both Delhi and in London.' The UK's King Charles said he and Queen Camilla are 'desperately shocked' by the 'terrible events' in Ahmedabad. He also paid tribute to the 'heroic efforts' of the emergency services and all those 'providing help and support at this most heartbreaking and traumatic time.' The UK and India have strong cultural and historic ties and a complicated history dating back to Britain's colonial era. The UK has a large Indian diaspora – according to data from the British government, in 2021, 1.9 million people or 3.1% of the country's population identified as having Indian ethnicity. Thursday's crash marks the first involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner since the aircraft first entered into service in 2011, according to Boeing's Statistical Summary of Commercial Jet Airplane Accidents. According to Boeing, there are over 1,175 Dreamliners in service, which account for 2,100 flights each day. Boeing issued a statement in wake of the crash, saying it is in contact with Air India and stands 'ready to support them.' 'Our thoughts are with the passengers, crew, first responders and all affected,' it added in an X post. This is a developing story and will be updated. CNN's Olivia Kemp contributed to this report.

What we know about the Air India plane crash
An Air India plane bound for London carrying 242 people crashed shortly after take-off in western India on Friday. Videos showed a huge plume of black smoke billowing into the sky. Rescue workers have scrambled to put out the fire and search for potential survivors. Here's what we know. The flight, AI171, took off at 1:39 p.m. local time (4:09 a.m. ET) from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in India's western state of Gujarat, according to a statement from India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation. It was headed to London Gatwick, and scheduled to land at 6:25 p.m. local time (1:25 p.m. ET). But shortly after take-off, the plane gave a Mayday call to air traffic control (ATC), the Indian civil aviation authorities said. 'Thereafter no response was given by the aircraft to the calls made by ATC. Aircraft immediately after departure from Runway 23, fell on ground outside the airport perimeter,' the statement said. The plane had reached an altitude of 625 when its signal was lost, according to data from flight tracker FlightRadar24. Videos showed the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner descending, before disappearing behind buildings and bursting into a fireball. Gujarat is also the home state of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Modi was chief minister of the state from 2001 to 2014. The plane hit a hostel for doctors when it crashed, with images showing the tail of the plane protruding from the building. In the debris-strewn street below, rescue workers rushed to put out the flames and search among the charred wreckage for survivors. The crash is the first major incident involving a Boeing 787 Dreamliner since the aircraft first came into service in 2011, according to the aircraft maker. Boeing said it is 'working to gather more information' about the crash. The manufacturer said there are more than 1,175 Dreamliner passenger aircrafts in service, accounting for 2,100 flights each day. Aviation analyst Geoffrey Thomas told CNN the Boeing had 'just celebrated a billion passengers' on its 787 Dreamliners. Shares in Boeing tanked by more than 7% in pre-market trade Thursday following the crash of one of its passenger aircraft in India. Stocks in many other airlines also fell, including London-listed IAG – the parent company of British Airways. Shares in Germany's Lufthansa, United Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines also fell on Thursday. Air India said there were 169 Indian nationals on the flight, in addition to 53 Britons, seven Portuguese and one Canadian. The UK and India have strong cultural ties and a complicated history dating back to Britain's colonial era. There is a large Indian diaspora in the UK of about 1.9 million people – or 3.1% of the population – according to the latest census data in 2021. The Ahmedabad city police commissioner told the Associated Press that there appears to be no survivors from the crash. Modi said the crash was 'heartbreaking beyond words' and that he was in touch with the authorities involved in the disaster. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the scenes were 'devastating.' Natarajan Chandrasekaran, the chairman of Air India, said the carrier was 'doing everything in our power to assist the emergency response teams at the site and to provide all necessary support and care to those impacted.' If the death toll is confirmed the crash is the deadliest worldwide since 2014 when a Malaysia Airlines jet was shot down over eastern Ukraine, killing all 298 people on board. Air India was bought by Indian multinational conglomerate Tata Group in 2022, and was widely regarded as a historic homecoming. Originally founded by J.R.D. Tata in 1932 before being nationalized in 1953, the deal marked the return of Air India to its original owners after nearly 70 years of government control. Prior to the purchase, Air India was seen as a struggling, debt-ridden airline. The carrier has seen a few rare but high-profile plane crashes in recent years. In 2020, at least 18 people died in 2020 after an Air India Express plane – a wholly owned subsidiary of Air India – crashed in the southern state of Kerala after skidding off the runway. In 2018, an Air India Boeing 737 aircraft was damaged after hitting an airport wall during takeoff. And in 2010, 158 people were killed after an Air India plane crashed after the jet overshot a runway in southern India. These incidents spurred Indian authorities to improve safety and infrastructure, but challenges remain, including airspace congestion. Since Air India's 2022 acquisition, the airline has undergone a significant transformation and modernization effort as it looks to tap into the demand of India's burgeoning middle class. CNN's Olivia Kemp, James Frater and Anna Cooban contributed reporting.
