‘Lilo & Stitch' release lifts US box offices
The twin releases of Walt Disney's Lilo & Stitch and Paramount Global's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning lifted US and Canadian theatre ticket sales to $325.5m (€286m) through to yesterday, setting a box office record for the US Memorial Day holiday weekend.
Lilo & Stitch, a live-action remake of the 2002 animated film about a Hawaiian girl and her dog-like extraterrestrial pet named Stitch, claimed the top spot with $183m in ticket sales, according to Comscore. Mission: Impossible, which sees Tom Cruise reprising his role as secret agent Ethan Hunt, came in second with $77.5m in receipts.

While we wont give away any spoilers, the scene does see Hunt jump from a burning plane, with Cruise, who is a licensed skydiver, having executed the stunt 16 times. He holds a box office title for actor with the most consecutive $100-million-grossing movies.
