2025 NHL Draft: First-round order and how to watch two-day event

USA Today6 hours ago

The first-round order for the 2025 NHL Draft is set after the New York Rangers agreed to move their pick this year rather than in 2026, according to northjersey.com, part of the USA TODAY Network.
The order bears only a slight resemblance to the final league standings.
The draft lottery significantly changed the look when the New York Islanders won the first drawing and jumped from 10th place to first overall. The Utah Mammoth won the second drawing and rose from 14th to fourth.
The Florida Panthers and Edmonton Oilers filled the 32nd and 31st spots, respectively, as Stanley Cup champion and runner-up, but they had already traded their picks.
The Rangers dealt their pick in the J.T. Miller trade and had the option of moving it this year or next. The 12th-overall pick now belongs to the Pittsburgh Penguins via the Vancouver Canucks.
The Nashville Predators and Philadelphia Flyers lead the way with three first-round picks each while the San Jose Sharks, Chicago Blackhawks, Montreal Canadiens, Calgary Flames, Columbus Blue Jackets and Penguins have two each. The Penguins and Canadiens will have back-to-back picks.
Erie (Pennsylvania) Otters defenseman Matthew Schaefer is expected to go No. 1 overall.
Here is the first-round order of the 2025 NHL Draft (barring additional trades) and how to watch the two-day event:

Wes Anderson Inspired ESPN's New Wimbledon ‘Quiet Please' Campaign

Wes Anderson's filmmaking style serves as the inspiration for ESPN's Wimbledon campaign, 'Quiet Please.' The new campaign draws on Anderson's style and embraces his signature use of symmetry as well as his curated color palettes. Franz Ferdinand's 'Take Me Out' serves as the campaign's anthem. Novak Djokovic, Madison Keys, Ben Shelton, Jessica Pegula, Taylor Fritz and Frances Tiafoe, along with ATP and WTA world number ones Jannik Sinner and Aryna Sabalenka, also make appearances. 'This year's Wimbledon campaign beautifully elevates the sport's rising stars and compelling narratives through a powerful and cinematic thematic,' said Rachel Epstein, Vice President, Live Sports and Audience Expansion at ESPN. 'It's a fresh and distinctive approach that not only captures the elegance and intensity of the tournament, but also underscores the depth of our coverage from day one through the finals.' Wimbledon is widely considered one of the most prestigious of all tennis Grand Slams, known for its storied grounds, rich traditions, and unique idiosyncrasies. The call of 'quiet please' comes from umpires to hush the crowd. This backdrop sets the stage for ESPN's newest installment of its 'Quiet Please' marketing campaign, which highlights the contrast between Wimbledon's timeless elegance and the high-energy play on the court. This year, from June 30 through July 13, ESPN will offer 'first ball to last ball coverage' across ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPN Deportes, totaling more than 250 hours of live coverage with every match on every court streaming live on ESPN+. Duncan Keith, the defensive leader of 3 Chicago Blackhawks Stanley Cup champs, is elected to Hall of Fame

Defenseman Duncan Keith, winner of three Stanley Cup championships with the Chicago Blackhawks, was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame on Tuesday in his first year of eligibility. In addition to forming a formidable tandem with defensive partner Brent Seabrook, Keith was an offensive X-factor for the Hawks. He broke out with 14 goals and 55 assists during the 2009-10 season, when he won the first of two Norris Trophies (also 2013-14) as the NHL's top defenseman. The 2009-10 season was also when the Hawks won the first of their three titles in six years. Keith won the 2015 Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP for the last of those championship runs. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native also won two Olympic gold medals with Canada — 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi — and played in four NHL All-Star Games. 'Duncan defined the modern archetype for a complete defenseman,' Hawks Chairman and CEO Danny Wirtz said in a statement. 'His opponents feared his shutdown defense as much as they respected his offensive prowess. He played with grit and heart, giving his all every second he was on the ice. 'While Blackhawks fans have long understood Duncan's profound impact on the game, we're thrilled to see his legacy now celebrated on hockey's biggest stage as he takes his well-deserved place among the game's all-time greats.' The eight-member Hall of Fame class also includes former NHL players Alexander Mogilny, Zdeno Chara and Joe Thornton, women's hockey stars Brianna Decker and Jennifer Botterill and coaches Jack Parker and Daniele Sauvageau in the builders category. They will be inducted during a Nov. 10 ceremony in Toronto. Keith will become the second member of the 2010s championship Hawks to be enshrined, joining forward Marian Hossa, who was inducted in 2021. The Hawks picked Keith in the second round (No. 54) of the 2002 draft, and he spent 16 of his 17 NHL seasons in Chicago. He was granted a trade to the Edmonton Oilers for his last season (2021-22) so he could be closer to family before retiring. All told, he put up 106 goals and 540 assists in 1,256 regular-season games, plus 18 goals and 70 assists in 151 postseason games. For all of his accomplishments and accolades, Keith may be most remembered — and adored in Chicago — for playing through the end of the 2010 Western Conference finals clincher against the San Jose Sharks after a flying puck knocked out seven teeth. 'It's just missing teeth,' he told reporters at the time. 'It's a long way from the heart. 'I took one breath and it felt like my whole mouth was missing, so I knew there were some teeth gone.'
