Johnathan Thurston in State of Origin drama as NSW forward's ban emerges
Johnathan Thurston's feud with Roosters forward Spencer Leniu is about to get another chapter.
The Queensland State of Origin legend will cross paths with the NSW livewire as the teams prepare for the State of Origin series opener at Suncorp Stadium on May 28.

The beef between Thurston and Leniu has been put back in the spotlight with QRL boss Ben Ikin on Monday saying he expects the Maroons pack to target the NSW prop because of his actions towards the North Queensland Cowboys icon.
Leniu and Thurston had two dramatic confrontations during the Roosters' 26-16 win over the Broncos at Suncorp Stadium last month with the confrontations reportedly stemming from the racism scandal that involved the former Penrith prop in last year's season-opening Las Vegas weekend.
Thurston at the time took a public stand in condemning Leniu over the alleged 'monkey' comment he made to Broncos playmaker Ezra Mam.
The situation exploded when Leniu reportedly called Thurston a 'f***wit' after coming from the field in the 55th minute of play.
The North Queensland Cowboys grand final hero was commentating in his role with Channel 9.
Nine Newspapers reported the drama took another turn when Thurston is reported to have approached Leniu to ask the NSW State of Origin forward what the problem was.
It was in that moment that Leniu is reported to have responded by calling the Queensland State of Origin legend a 'f***ing c***'.
Thurston reportedly responded: 'What's your problem?'
Ikin has now told The Sydney Morning Herald the incident has not been forgotten by members of the Queensland camp.
'JT is one of the most beloved figures in Queensland, and I've no doubt that everyone who'll wear the Maroons jersey next Wednesday saw what happened at Suncorp Stadium that night,' Ikin said.
'Will Spencer Leniu be a target? I think so, just not in the way he expects. But then again, I'm not the coach.'
Leniu and superstar Blues teammate Latrell Mitchell informed the press on Monday they will not be speaking to reporters in the build up to the game.
Mitchell and Leniu took part in team photos as the Blues kicked off their 10-day camp at the NSW Centre of Excellence in Sydney, but the pair declined to speak to the media.
The SMH reports it was NSW Origin officials that made the call to pull Leniu out of interviews with concerns his comments could inflame his situation with Thurston.
Leniu has been on a self-imposed media ban and has not conducted any formal media interviews since the Thurston incident.
NSW coach Laurie Daley told Fox League's NRL 360 he doesn't expect Leniu to do any interviews.
'I don't think they will,' Daley said.
'Obviously they want to focus in on their football. And I think people know the storylines that people want to bring up.
'So there's no reason to inflame any situation that these guys might find themselves in.
'It's better off to keep them away and focus on their football. Hopefully they play well Wednesday week.'
Thurston at the time called Leniu's behaviour 'overly aggressive'.
The NRL did not take any action at the time because Thurston did not make an official complaint.
After news reports about Leniu's actions after the game emerged Leniu then took another swipe at Thurston on social media.
In a post on Instagram, Leniu denied approaching Thurston and launched a fresh attack at the Maroons great.
'I never wanted to talk to JT. He kept trying to come speak to me,' part of the Leniu's caption said.
'Lad (I don't care) that you hate me for what I did. But don't come up to me asking me questions like we're (all good).'
'Don't be two face (sic). Hate me lad I'm 'eetswa' (sweet) with that. But don't be fake. 'I hate fake people.'
Thurston was not the only person to cop a drive by from Leniu with Code Sports reporting Broncos hooker Billy Walters was also snubbed by the NSW State of Origin prop.
According to Code, Leniu called Walters a 'snitch' before walking on.
Walters had been at dummy half when Leniu used the slur 'monkey' while barking at Broncos playmaker Ezra Mam during their Las Vegas clash last year.

Peter Gelagotis Racing in drive to raise funds for motor neurone disease in month of June
Three-year-old stayer Thunder Zeus would contribute to one of Australian sport's greatest causes if he saluted at Flemington on Saturday. Thunder Zeus will carry the official FightMND silks as part of the Neale Daniher-inspired drive to raise funds for research into motor neurone disease. The King's Birthday weekend is the high point of FightMND's fundraising campaign as celebrities slide into icy water at Monday's AFL game between Collingwood and Melbourne. The Peter Gelagotis stable is doing its bit for the cause with all its runners to carry the FightMND colours during the month of June. Southside Racing and Racing Victoria will donate $1000 for each winner the stable prepares with the yellow and black silks this month. Stable manager Manny Gelagotis said the FightMND cause resonated with him in his capacity as the president of the Moe Lions Football Club. 'We're doing this in conjunction with the Moe Lions where Neale Daniher's son Ben has played for the last four or five years,' Gelagotis said. 'That's how the connection was made and I've got to know the family well.' Gelagotis said the Moe Lions would hold its annual FightMND fundraiser at its game on Saturday while Thunder Zeus hopefully fought out the finish of a three-year-old race over 2000m at Flemington. 'It's my passion to drive it through my two interests in racing and the footy club,' Gelagotis said. 'We've got many people like Peter Daicos, Nathan Buckley, Sam Kekovich and Denis Pagan that have all done videos for us to help raise awareness. 'The big event happens at Ted Summerton (Oval) on Saturday and it's turned into a really big thing because a lot of other leagues don't play on the long weekend so we get heaps of people coming from everywhere. 'Health-permitting, we hope Neale is going to be there but it's a day-to-day thing and it's been so powerful when he has made it in the past.' Thunder Zeus will head to Flemington as a last-start winner of a maiden over 2080m. Gelagotis said the son of Night Of Thunder was an improving young stayer with plenty of potential. 'He was too good for them at Cranbourne and he's getting better all the time,' Gelagotis said. Corey Horsburgh is ready to answer Queensland's call and his last fortnight's work for the high-flying Canberra Raiders proves he has the Origin traits and habits Billy Slater demands. Maroons coach Slater conceded Horsburgh was stiff to miss out on selection for the opening game of the series where Queensland were manhandled by NSW in a 18-6 defeat in Brisbane. Needing to save the series, Slater is preparing to name his team for game two in Perth on June 18. Horsburgh will be out to make an impression in his final audition on Sunday when the Raiders host South Sydney. But over the last two weeks, the prop has already shown the traits Slater is looking for to help the Green Machine rise to second on the NRL ladder. In a gritty win over the Warriors in Auckland in round 12, Horsburgh and teammate Morgan Smithies pulled off a try-saving tackle on Marata Niukore in the dying stages. And last Sunday, in the Raiders' 26-24 win over the Sydney Roosters, it was Horsburgh who jolted the ball loose from Victor Radley's grasp with the game on the line. Horsburgh (112m) also clocked up more metres than the Roosters' two Origin props - fellow Queenslander Lindsay Collins (47m) and NSW prop Spencer Leniu (42m) - combined. And the 27-year-old, who has just one solitary Queensland appearance to name, is eager to channel those efforts into Origin and help Slater's men square the series. "You can't take it (an omission) to heart but I just focus on winning," Horsburgh told AAP. "We won last week, we won this week and as long as the Raiders are winning... if my phone rings for game two, I'm ready. "I'm playing in a different role to 2023 when I was at lock. (There was) no feedback on why I didn't make it or anything. "I'm just trying to play consistent footy and if the phone rings I'm ready, but if not hopefully they can get the job done over the next two games." Canberra can finish round 14 in top spot with a win over Souths in Horsburgh's 100th NRL game. Josh Papali'i will also surpass Jason Croker and become the most-capped player in Raiders' history in his 319th NRL game. Horsburgh's road to his milestone has been fraught with highs and lows and as recently as last year the prop was on the outer after a 2024 campaign that was wrecked by injury and suspension. "I don't care about mine, Papa's (milestone) is a big one - beating the club record is pretty special," Horsburgh said. "I missed his 300th last year from not playing the best footy so it's one I don't want to miss. "I've had bad injuries but I'm a pretty resilient person who can bounce back from stuff like that. "I identified last year was more my fault and I've trained hard and got my body right to reap the rewards now... hopefully this year we can do something special."
