It's interesting that we're often intrigued by how other people use their gifts and talents.
When we were building our family home, I enjoyed chatting up the framers, plumbers, electricians, painters, cabinet makers, trim carpenters and other crafts people. I reveled in plying them with questions. They probably regarded our exchanges as merely friendly conversations. Yes, they were that. But omit the word 'merely.' Those conversations were also a form of stealth interview. I admired their work and I really wanted to know how and why they did what they did.
That same line of inquiry applies to the work of Frank Sonnenberg.
Frank is an unassuming guy who lives in a quiet hamlet in upstate New Jersey. He writes. Not novels and not tomes on politics, science, business, travel, or technology. He writes about character, personal values, and personal responsibility.
There's nothing preachy or self-righteous about Frank's writing. He simply dispenses wise counsel that's applicable to anyone anywhere in any role at any stage of life.
Because he clearly understands the power of words, I suspect Frank may be familiar with a sentiment attributed to English poet Lord Byron: 'A small drop of ink, falling like dew upon a thought, produces that which makes thousands—perhaps millions—think.'
Frank has certainly hit the millions mark. More than five million people are subscribed to his blog. And his books (a dozen and counting) reach people around the globe.
Here are some brief glimpses of what you'll find in his latest book titled Values to Live By.
.
.
In addition to many chapters on specific issues related to human behavior and performance, Frank offers scores of brief (often single sentence) homilies worth pondering:
Do you like lists? You've come to the right place. Values to Live By includes dozens of thought-provoking inventories of specific, life-enhancing behaviors:
Values to Live By is a smorgasbord you can enjoy in multiple servings. Or you might find it so captivating that you devour the entire thing on one of those quiet weekend afternoons. Either way, you will have done yourself a favor.

What's In Dylan Efron's Bag? Star Reveals Full Summer Skincare Routine
Dylan Efron lounges at the beach with his dog while promoting his Cortizone-10 partnership Photo courtesy of Cortizone-10 Dylan Efron's appreciation for a summer skincare routine comes from a handful of places. It doesn't hurt that his brother Zac spent his life in front of the camera. And having women in his life, including longtime girlfriend Courtney King, has likely had its influence. But on his own account, the outdoorsy winner of The Traitors has turned to various forms of skin protection to coincide with his active lifestyle. In fact, Efron just teamed up with Cortizone-10 to launch their Fast Acting Itch Relief Cooling Spray, as part of an Itchy Bear Season campaign. This is just one of many products Efron incorporates into his summer skincare routine. 'I've used the brand since I was a kid,' Efron said during a one-on-one Zoom call. 'I grew up in a small town and there wasn't much to do on weekends. So it was like almost every week I got poison oak. We had a lot of oak trees and we'd go climbing through the little creek in our hometown, or we'd go float the river. And it was just one of those things where there was nothing I could do. I was always that kid who got rashes and mosquito bites in the group. This stuff actually works. Ever since then it's been a staple for me. I don't travel without it.' In addition to other practical outdoor travel skincare, including ChapStick and topical antibiotics like Neosporin, the Down to Earth With Zac Efron producer is a fan of everyday products. Below, Efron reveals which items from his summer skincare routine make it to his travel bag. 1. Elta MD UV Daily Broad-Spectrum SPF 40 'I'm 33, and I'm seeing a lot of my friends who I grew up with start to look a little old,' Efron said. 'I think face sunscreen is so important for that. I think body sunscreen, I can get away with not wearing if I'm not out outdoors all day, but face sunscreen, you need it. It really makes a difference. That's something that my brother instilled in me from a young age. I would always steal his Elta MD. So yeah, I think that's been my number one for how I've been able to maintain good complexion—a good face sunscreen.' 2. ISDIN Fusion Water Magic SPF 40 'I really like this sunscreen, too,' Efron said of the award-winning vitamin E and hyaluronic acid-based product. 'It's that same feeling when you put on the Supergoop!, in that it doesn't feel like traditional sunscreen. I like on a late day.' 3. Clarins Double Serum + Double Serum Eye Duo The TV personality joked that he can't pronounce 'hyaluronic acid,' but he's a fan of the ingredient in his favorite duo, which hydrates and plumps the skin. Rest assured, Efron doesn't abandon his moisturizing step, he just has a handful in rotation and can't pin down only one. 4. Elemis Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks 'As a 33-year-old male, who's never been into this stuff, I would see people with these face patches,' Efron said. 'Then you use them once and you're like, oh my god, this stuff works. Like I see why people use them. These are really expensive, but they're so good though.' THE TRAITORS — "The Day of Reckoning is Upon Us" Episode 311 — Pictured: Dylan Efron — (Photo by: Euan Cherry/Peacock via Getty Images) Euan Cherry/Peacock via Getty Images Vacation Plans All Over The Globe Now, as for where his summer skincare routine will end up this year? Efron offers a glimpse into his vacation plans. In addition to Europe, the thrill-seeker is 'hoping for some family time at the lake,' he says. 'There's a lake in my hometown that feels like summer to me. I'm with my high school friends and it's like 100-degrees out, and we're all trying to do 360s on a wake surf. It's peak summer to me.' Being able to immediately switch gears from European sophistication to down-home life at the lake is something is something Efron feels 'so lucky to experience at my current age,' he said. 'If I was going through this when I was 18, I'd be so lost,' he continued. 'But I know what I love. While I might be going to Milan for fashion week, I'm also going to a national park next week to fly fish, and I'm going to balance that out. So for every time I'm in a big city doing something crazy, I'm going to go to Joshua Tree and rock climbing. I love being a part of those two worlds. If I was only in Joshua tree, I would be sad and feel like [there's another life out there], but I think being able to live in both that natural world and this fun world is just such a blessing for me.'

When you're packing for summer vacation, comfort is just as important as style. After all, what's a cute outfit if you're overheating halfway into your day's itinerary? That's why we always reach for linen clothing in the summer. These airy, timeless styles are sure to keep you cool from day to night. Just in case your linen collection needs a refresh, we searched our favorite retailers for the best linen shirts for summer travel. We've found button-downs, breezy tanks, tube tops, and more in the breathable fabric, and our favorites are all under $50. Keep scrolling for the best linen tops at Quince, Gap, and more from $14. When we think of a linen top, we think of this flowy button-down. It has a soft, airy feel that will keep you comfortable throughout your summer travels. Plus, it comes in seven marked-down colors and prints. Make it a set with any of the versatile bottoms in Old Navy's Linen Shop. Linen vests are one of the trendiest styles for summer, and this elevated option from Gap is one of the best we've seen. It features a sleek silhouette, with a long length and front slit that pairs well with high-waisted pants. Choose between versatile black and white colors or stylish pinstriped options, all 50 percent off today. This short-sleeve button-up shirt is the epitome of vacation style. Reviewers love that it's lightweight and breathable, but not see-through. It's available in bold and neutral colors and patterns, with an effortlessly classy look in every shade. Does it get more laid-back than a linen T-shirt? Simple, airy, and slightly see-through, this top is effortlessly stylish. It's available in 11 colors and patterns, but we're particularly fond of the basic white style that's just $30 today. If you're shopping for a bolder look, be sure to check out the red sand and green striped options. This cropped tank from Amazon has a simple, elevated look that will easily pair with anything in your travel wardrobe. We love the button-up detail in the back, which adds a unique touch to an otherwise classic tank. It's available in 17 colors, including neutrals and bold, summery hues. (Just note that the floral patterns are cotton, not linen.) This square-neck tank is designed to be worn as a matching set, but we think it would look just as good on its own. We'd wear it with white jeans or a denim skirt—or make it a set with the coordinating wide-leg pants or drawstring shorts. With a breathable cotton-linen fabric, classic silhouette, and nautical striped print, this top was made to last for countless vacations to come. This staple top can transition from day to night, and it's 49 percent off today. It's made of 100 percent linen, so it's sure to keep you feeling cool all summer long. Plus, the gathered details at the collar and sleeves add a touch of sophistication to an otherwise simple top. We'd pair this piece with denim shorts, white pants, or a black skirt, depending on the occasion. Every closet needs a linen button-up, and this Caslon version is timeless. We would use this classic shirt as a lightweight layer for any summer itinerary and even throw it over a swimsuit on beach days. Say hello to the chill muscle tee that's perfect for long flights, running errands, and heading to the beach. It's available in five colors, but we love this unique blue shade that's practically begging for some oceanside wear. This strapless top features a relaxed, flowy look, plus a smocked back that ensures a comfortable fit. It's ideal for super hot days, and we'd pair it with breezy pants or maxi skirts. It's also available in a trendy navy pinstripe and black color. $40 $18 at Abercrombie is reinventing classic linen styles with unique silhouettes, like this open-back design. This top has a sophisticated full length and cap sleeves, plus a flirty open back that adds a modern twist. We love this earthy oatmeal color, although the top is also fully stocked in white, light blue, and a bold teal print. Forget everything you thought you knew about linen tops. This eyelet peplum top has an intricate design, with tasteful cut-outs and a feminine sweetheart neckline. Its linen-rayon blend is soft and breathable, so you'll be equally stylish and comfy under the sun. $60 $32 at The flattering ruching, hourglass silhouette, and white trim of this linen tube top set it apart from other strapless options. The result is a top that's perfect for day or nighttime wear, so the styling options are endless. We'd pair it with sophisticated trousers, a white mini-skirt, or fitted black jeans. Bonus: The top has removable straps for extra security. Love a great deal? Sign up for our T+L Recommends newsletter and we'll send you our favorite travel products each week.
