Comprehensive, people-centric facilities at heart of Kota MADANI
KUALA LUMPUR: The Kota MADANI concept emphasises comprehensive and centralised basic facilities for the well-being of the people, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Anwar said that during the presentation of the concept today, he was informed that among the planned facilities are high-rise schools, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, and financial institutions.
'In addition, a health clinic, fire station, police station and mosque will all be developed near residential areas.
'The first phase, which involves the construction of around 3,000 housing units and a high-rise school, is expected to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2027,' he said in a Facebook post today.
The Prime Minister added that the design of the mosque and school would incorporate elements of local culture, in line with efforts to preserve architectural heritage.
'May all these plans proceed smoothly and be implemented in the best possible manner for the benefit of all,' he said.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Aziz also recently announced his departure from Umno, adding that he was planning to join PKR and that he would leave it up to the prime minister to decide if he will continue as a Cabinet member. Anwar has so far signalled that he has no plans to change the Cabinet line-up, saying he had only approved leave requests for Rafizi and Nik Nazmi who are both from his party, PKR. 'There is no need for any drastic changes or Cabinet reshuffles. The ministers have been given time to reflect on what they want to do, and they are currently on leave. I have only approved their leave requests,' Anwar told reporters when met at the Kuala Lumpur International Book Fair 2025 on June 1. He gave an assurance that his government remains fully operational and that other ministers will be assigned to cover the duties of those on leave.

(Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA: A PKR leader has defended the Madani City project in Putrajaya after a Bersatu leader questioned the use of the government's tagline in naming the project. PKR central leadership council member G Sivamalar said 'Madani' referred to the government's core values – including sustainability, innovation, and compassion – and was not meant to promote any single individual. 'It needs to be stressed that it's 'Madani City', not 'Anwar's City' as cynically claimed by Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan. 'It's shameful to mock a policy built on such principles for political gain,' Sivamalar said in a statement. She added that the project addressed a real need for housing among civil servants, who make up 90% of Putrajaya's population. Sivamalar cited the Auditor-General's Report 2021, which said that nearly 18,000 civil servants were still waiting for government quarters. She said the 41ha Madani City project would offer 10,000 housing units for up to 30,000 people, and was meant to be a walkable city with essential services within a 15-minute radius. She urged critics to stop politicising public welfare and to support meaningful solutions introduced by the government. Yesterday, Wan Saiful warned against using administrative slogans to brand major projects, saying it could lead to losses if there was a change in government. The groundbreaking ceremony for the Madani City project is set for June 26. The township will come with a secondary school, a technical and vocational education and training institution, banks, a government clinic and a mosque, among others. Malaysia eyes Japan's flood mitigation system to boost local rice production [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia can learn from and emulate Japan's advanced flood control infrastructure to strengthen the country's local rice production. Agriculture and Food Security Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu said Japan's highly efficient flood mitigation system could be adapted to suit Malaysia's conditions in efforts to boost national food security. "I believe there is much we can learn and adapt to our environment, especially their highly efficient flood control system. "This technology can be utilised to help us enhance local rice production, which currently meets only about 60 per cent of the country's actual needs," he said in a Facebook post today. Mohamad is currently in Japan on a working visit aimed at expanding agricultural cooperation between the two countries and engaging with key players in Japan's agricultural industry. He also said he was impressed by Japan's modern farming methods and the use of high-tech equipment, including driverless rice-planting machines powered by information technology. "This is a prime example of how agriculture can be modernised to address labour shortages and climate change challenges," he added. During his visit to rice farming areas in Echizen, Japan, Mohamad met a Malaysian who has been working in the country's agricultural sector for the past three years. "This proves that our youth are capable of mastering international-level agricultural technologies and practices. "This visit provided valuable insights, especially in our efforts to increase domestic rice production and strengthen food security," he said. In addition to visiting rice cultivation sites, Mohamad also held a bilateral meeting with Japan's Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Koizumi Shinjiro, in Tokyo.
