US, Russia expected to publish joint statement on latest Ukraine ceasefire talks
The U.S. and Russia are expected to release a joint statement on Tuesday detailing the outcomes of the latest bilateral meeting in Saudi Arabia discussing a potential path to peace in Ukraine, Russian state media reported.
Monday's closed-door talks in Riyadh lasted for 12 hours, a source told the Tass Russian state media agency. A source told the RIA Novosti state media agency that a joint statement on the negotiations will be issued on Tuesday.
Grigory Karasin, the chairman of the Federation Council Committee on International Affairs, who took part in the talks in Riyadh, told Tass that "the dialogue was detailed and complex but quite useful for us and for the Americans." Karasin added, "We discussed numerous issues."
The talks were expected to include discussions on a potential ceasefire in the Black Sea, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday. That proposal, Peskov said, came from President Donald Trump and was agreed to by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A proposed pause in long-range attacks on energy and other critical infrastructure targets was also expected to be part of discussions. Though Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy both agreed to the proposal in principle last week, cross-border strikes have continued.
U.S. and Ukrainian representatives held talks after the American meeting with the Russian team concluded, a source familiar with the discussions told ABC News.
On Monday, responding to another round of Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities, Zelenskyy wrote on social media that "the war was brought from Russia and it is to Russia that the war must be pushed back. They must be the ones forced into peace. They are the ones who must be pressured to ensure security."

Iran reportedly launched close to 100 drones toward Israel on the morning of June 13, and IDF Spokesman Brigadier General Effie Defrin said Israel was 'working to intercept the threats,' according to CBS. Israel was under a state of emergency. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said America was 'not involved' in the strikes, in a statement soon after the attack. 'Israel took unilateral action against Iran,' Rubio wrote. 'We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region.' Israel advised American officials they thought the strikes were 'necessary for its self-defense,' according to Rubio's statement. Trump said earlier on June 12 that he was seeking diplomatic solutions to the situation. 'President Trump and the Administration have taken all necessary steps to protect our forces and remain in close contact with our regional partners,' Rubio wrote. 'Let me be clear: Iran should not target U.S. interests or personnel.' Amid ongoing tensions in the region, with Israel's war on Hamas and Iran's hostility to the Jewish state, this could soon erupt into a wider conflict.

Trump Suffers Major Blow in Attempt to Overhaul U.S. Elections
A federal judge blocked portions of a Trump administration order Friday that would have required voters to show proof of citizenship at the voting booth. In a 44-page memorandum, U.S. District Judge Denise Casper ordered that adding layers of difficulty to the voting process would only harm eligible voters by adding significant barriers before they can cast their ballots. Casper further noted that Donald Trump's order was an executive overreach and that the authority to set new election requirements rests with Congress. 'There is no dispute (nor could there be) that U.S. citizenship is required to vote in federal elections and the federal voter registration forms require attestation of citizenship,' Casper wrote. 'The issue here is whether the president can require documentary proof of citizenship where the authority for election requirements is in the hands of Congress, its statutes … do not require it, and the statutorily created [Election Assistance Commission] is required to go through a notice and comment period and consult with the states before implementing any changes to the federal forms for voter registration.' One of five provisions in the executive order blocked by Casper mandated that the Election Assistance Commission collect and record information on provided documentary proof of citizenship in the national voter registration form. Casper's ruling also intervened in a White House decree that ordered the secretary of defense to update the absentee application for overseas voters or Americans in the military, which under Trump's direction would have required such voters to provide proof of citizenship as well as proof of eligibility to vote in their respective states. 'Neither the Constitution nor any statute grants the president the authority to enact' such an order, the judge wrote. Since Trump lost the 2020 election, he and his allies have obsessed over contrived claims of voter fraud—a statistical nonissue in U.S. elections. For instance, a statewide audit out of Georgia, the epicenter of Trump's baseless theory, revealed in September that just 20 noncitizens out of 8.2 million residents existed on the state's voter roll. Out of those 20, only nine participated in elections, years ago, before ID was required as a part of the voter verification process. The other 11 individuals were registered but never actually voted, according to Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger. Critics argue that restrictions on the front end of the electoral process—such as one-day voting and requiring day-of voter ID, which Trump pledged to apply in December—would minimize voter turnout and limit the democracy's ability to represent its constituents. This would especially be true in high-density areas like the nation's biggest cities, where those stipulations would significantly drain resources (i.e., boost the number of volunteers required) and require more time to process, potentially leading to delays. Trump's continued focus on the nativist nonissue belies the fact that it is, of course, already illegal and impossible for noncitizens to vote in U.S. elections, including in Georgia, where the individuals who fell through the cracks in the system accounted for just 0.00024 percent of the state's voting population. Meanwhile, Trump has said nothing about campaign finance reform, an electoral issue that has, over the last few decades, increasingly placed politicians in the pockets of major corporations and billionaire donors. Instead, the president's allies have actually lobbied him to loosen campaign finance laws, raise limits on campaign contributions, and oppose Federal Election Commission reforms that would help the agency enforce the laws regarding the country's elections.

Trump Calls on Iran to Agree to Nuclear Deal ‘Before There Is Nothing Left'
President Donald Trump on Friday morning implored Iran to 'make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire,' hours after Israeli strikes killed several top Iranian military officials and targeted the country's nuclear infrastructure. The strikes, which began Thursday night, came as the United States was gearing up for a scheduled meeting on Sunday with Iranian negotiators in order to discuss a potential nuclear deal. 'I gave Iran chance after chance to make a deal. I told them, in the strongest of words, to 'just do it,' but no matter how hard they tried, no matter how close they got, they just couldn't get it done,' Trump wrote Friday morning on Truth Social. 'Certain Iranian hardliner's spoke bravely, but they didn't know what was about to happen. They are all DEAD now, and it will only get worse!' Trump added. 'Iran must make a deal, before there is nothing left, and save what was once known as the Iranian Empire. No more death, no more destruction, JUST DO IT, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. God Bless You All!' In a separate post, the president added that two months ago he had given Iran 'a 60 day ultimatum to 'make a deal.' They should have done it! Today is day 61. I told them what to do, but they just couldn't get there. Now they have, perhaps, a second chance!' Iran's Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that Israel 'should expect severe punishment' for the attacks, which killed Mohammad Bagheri, commander of the Iranian military; Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps; Gholamali Rashid, deputy commander of the Iranian armed forces; Amir Ali Hajizadeh, leader of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps airspace unit; as well as Ali Shamkhani — the lead negotiator in Iran's nuclear negotiations with the U.S. and at least two prominent Iranian nuclear scientists. According to a Thursday report from Reuters, ahead of the strikes the Trump administration had urged Israel against military escalation, hoping to negotiate a diplomatic solution in upcoming talks and warning that they would not involve themselves in a unilateral strike. 'Tonight, Israel took unilateral action against Iran,' Trump's Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement Thursday evening. 'We are not involved in strikes against Iran and our top priority is protecting American forces in the region. Israel advised us that they believe this action was necessary for its self-defense.
