heist near Basantpur under the Rajghat police station limits within 24 hours of the crime with the arrest of five people.SP city Abhinav Tyagi and CO (Kotwali) Omkar Dutt Tiwari said that the arrested accused—identified as Karan Chaudhary (son of Bablu Chaudhary), Sarfaraz Alam (son of Shaukat Ali), Aditya Sharma (son of Ashwani Sharma), Anuj Sharma (son of late Radhe Sharma), and Rajat Kumar (son of Amarnath)—are all residents of the Kotwali area.
The stolen bag containing gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 25 lakh was recovered from their possession.None of the arrested youth, aged between 20 and 25, have any prior criminal records. "The lure of quick money is pushing youngsters toward serious crimes like robbery. This is a worrying trend," said SSP Tyagi.Police are still on the lookout for one more accused involved in the case. Rajghat SHO Sadanand Sinha confirmed the successful recovery of the looted jewellery.TNN

Land surveyor killed month after wedding, bride among those arrested for ‘plotting murder'
Police in Telangana's Jogulamba Gadwal district have arrested a newlywed woman and a man she was in a relationship with for allegedly hiring three persons to murder her husband. According to police, Tejeshwar Rao (26), a land surveyor, married Aishwarya on May 18. He went missing on June 17, and his brother lodged a missing person complaint the same day. During the investigation, Tejeshwar's family cast suspicion on Aishwarya, who they said was always on the phone. While the police were searching for Tejeshwar, they received a message from Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district police about a decomposed body found in a canal on June 20. It was identified as that of Tejeshwar; his throat had been slit and the body had stab wounds. The police probe revealed that Aishwarya, who hails from Kurnool, used to work at a non-banking financial institution as a helper. Police said the institution's manager, Tirumala Rao, who is married, allegedly had an extramarital relationship with her. According to the police, Rao, who has no children, allegedly introduced Aishwarya to his wife and told her she was ready to marry him and give them children. His wife, police said, refused and warned him of the consequences, but the two allegedly continued their relationship. Aishwarya's mother, Sujatha, meanwhile, received a proposal from Tejeshwar's family for her daughter. After initially turning down the proposal, Aishwarya eventually agreed, police said. According to the police, Aishwarya remained in touch with Rao, and they allegedly planned to eliminate Tejeshwar and usurp his property. Rao allegedly hired three persons who had been seeking a loan from his institution for several months. He allegedly offered to pay Rs 3 lakh to kill Tejeshwar and get rid of his body. The trio posed as real estate dealers and sought Tejeshwar's help to survey a piece of land. When he arrived, they asked him to sit in a car and allegedly attacked him from behind. They allegedly disposed of the body in a canal. Officials said that Rao and Aishwarya were allegedly planning to flee to Ladakh, but put off the plan after Tejeshwar's body was found. Police have arrested Aishwarya, her mother Sujatha, Rao, his father, and the three alleged killers.

AAP's Saurabh Bharadwaj, Satyendra Jain booked in alleged hospital scam
The Anti-Corruption Branch of the Delhi government on Thursday filed a first information report against Aam Aadmi Party leaders and former ministers Saurabh Bharadwaj and Satyendar Jain in connection with alleged irregularities in the construction of 24 hospitals, reported The Indian Express. The case stems from a complaint filed by Bharatiya Janata Party MLA Vijender Gupta in August. Gupta had alleged that Bharadwaj and Jain were involved in systematic manipulation of project budgets, misuse of public funds and collusion with private contractors, according to the newspaper. In 2018-'19, the then- Aam Aadmi Party government in Delhi sanctioned 24 hospital projects, of which 11 were greenfield and 13 brownfield, for Rs 5,590 crore, reported ANI. However, unexplained delays and massive cost overruns 'amounting to several hundred crores' have been found in the projects, the news agency quoted Joint Commissioner of Police Madhur Verma as saying. Verma added that none of the projects have been completed within the stipulated time. The development and improvement of an existing project is classified as brownfield while construction of a new facility is considered a greenfield. In its FIR, the Anti-Corruption Branch has also flagged alleged irregularities in the construction of the Rs 1,125 crore Intensive Care Unit hospital project, which was intended to be completed in six months but remains only 50% finished after nearly three years and an expenditure of Rs 800 crore, The Indian Express reported. The branch further claimed that upon verification of Gupta's complaint, it was found that unauthorised constructions had taken place at government hospitals in Jwalapuri and Madipur. Further, the construction of a new block at the Lok Nayak Jaya Prakash Hospital awarded to Swadeshi Civil Infrastructure Private Limited saw costs jump from Rs 488 crore to Rs 1,135 crore with construction still incomplete, claimed the Anti-Corruption Branch. It was due to be completed by January 2023, ANI reported. Significant mismanagement of funds was also observed in a polyclinic project, with only 52 out of 94 clinics being built and costs rising from Rs 168 crore to Rs 220 crore, alleged the branch. It added that many of these polyclinics remain non-functional, according to The Indian Express.

Behind the chaos in liquor vend auctions in Haryana, gangsters, threats and a murder
An excise and taxation official confirmed that despite having completed five rounds of auctions, they have not been able to find bidders for nearly 260 outlets across 20 districts. Yamunanagar is the worst hit, where 45 out of 55 liquor zones have received no bids. The other districts where the problem is pronounced are Jind, Rohtak, Kurukshetra and Karnal. The excise and taxation department, which has so far allotted only 934 of 1,200 liquor zones, is grappling with a significant shortfall in revenue due to the reluctance of bidders. Gurugram: A wave of violent attacks and extortion threats targeting liquor contractors has plunged Haryana's liquor vend auctions into chaos, with nearly 260 outlets across 20 districts yet to find bidders, threatening the state's ambitious excise revenue target of Rs 14,063.91 crore for 2025–26. The attacks on those in the liquor business, including the murder of liquor contractor Shantanu in Kurukshetra on 13 June, has instilled fear among traders, prompting the Haryana government to launch an aggressive crackdown on organised crime to restore confidence in the auction process. A gangster aide of Lawrence Bishnoi, Rohit Godara, claimed responsibility on social media, but the Jind superintendent of police said the murder was likely due to a long-standing personal rivalry with the Rathee gang. Dismissing Godara's claim as a 'publicity stunt', he said the killing was not directly linked to liquor business disputes. 'Not a single gangster should remain active in the state,' Saini declared, emphasising that robust law and order is the government's top priority. He ordered the strengthening of the State Task Force (STF) with additional manpower and resources and mandated immediate security for citizens reporting threats or extortion calls. In a video posted on his 'X' handle on 19 June, Saini said, 'We have given the police a free hand to ensure that no mafia, gangster, or criminal running an organized crime syndicate is spared. Such anti-social elements should be eliminated through mission-mode operations, so that an atmosphere of peace and harmony can be established in society.' Days later, on 24 June, Haryana Police, in a joint operation with Delhi Police's Special Cell, gunned down Romil Vohra, a sharpshooter of the Kala Rana-Noni Rani gang, in an encounter near the Delhi-Haryana border. Vohra, wanted in multiple cases, including Shantanu's murder and a triple murder in Yamunanagar, carried a Rs 3.1 lakh reward. The BJP's Haryana unit hailed the operation on social media, signalling a tough stance against criminal networks. However, contractors in the liquor business remain wary, citing persistent threats to stay away from auctions. The problem is more severe in Yamunanagar. Haryana's Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Dr. Sumita Misra, on 24 June, chaired a law-and-order review meeting with Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Superintendents of Police (SPs) and District Excise and Taxation Commissioners from Yamunanagar, Kurukshetra, Jind, Hisar, Rohtak, Karnal and Ambala. She urged potential bidders to participate without fear, assuring them of 'full administrative support and security'. Misra directed police and intelligence agencies to profile habitual troublemakers, maintain surveillance on suspicious movements, and deploy additional forces and video surveillance in vulnerable zones. She warned that any laxity by officials would invite strict departmental action, emphasising the 'non-negotiable' integrity of the auction process. Misra also instructed DCs and SPs to hold direct dialogues with bidders to address their concerns, reinforcing the state's zero-tolerance policy toward interference.
