NEXT Weather Alert this weekend in Minnesota for dangerous heat, humidity
Saturday and Sunday are both NEXT Weather Alert days in Minnesota due to dangerous heat and humidity.
An extreme heat warning is in effect for most of Minnesota and Wisconsin from noon Saturday through 9 p.m. Sunday.
Highs will reach the mid 90s on Saturday with sunshine and breezy winds. With the humidity, it'll feel like the 100s.
This will likely be the Twin Cities' hottest day since September 2023 — and could potentially set a daily record high.
Expect more of the same on Sunday with highs back in the mid 90s and heat index values up to 110 degrees in the metro.
A cold front will drop through on Sunday night into Monday, bringing another round of showers and storms, along with more comfortable weather as highs return to the 70s for the rest of the week.
It looks like the front will stall across southern Minnesota, bringing more showers and storms Tuesday through Thursday.

Take two: United Launch Alliance now aims to launch an Atlas V rocket on Amazon's second Project Kuiper broadband satellite mission at 6:54 a.m. Monday, June 23, seven days after a scrub. Slotted to soar a half-hour after sunrise, the high-profile mission has a 30-minute window from Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station. What is Project Kuiper? It's Amazon's planned $10 billion constellation of 3,232 satellites to provide high-speed internet service around the world. ULA launched the ecommerce giant's first 27 production satellites on April 28 from the Space Force installation. This mission will add another 27 to the mix. On Monday, June 16, ULA scrubbed the initial Project Kuiper 2 launch attempt about 35 minutes before liftoff, citing "an engineering observation of an elevated purge temperature within the booster engine." In addition, Amazon is contracted for more than 30 missions with SpaceX, Blue Origin and Arianespace. Our first heat wave of the year is here in the Philadelphia area, and it will continue through Thursday with heat that will at times reach dangerous levels. As a reminder, three consecutive days at or above 90 is considered a heat wave. Highs Saturday will hover in the low 90s in the city. Plan on plenty of humidity with heat indices feeling like 95. Temperatures peak in the 80s at the Jersey Shore and Delaware beaches. This heat is being felt across a large swath of the country and by Sunday, an estimated 140 million Americans will be under the highest level of extreme heat alerts. Extreme heat warning in Philadelphia region Sunday-Wednesday The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for these counties in the Philadelphia region from 8 a.m. Sunday to 8 p.m. Wednesday: Lancaster Berks Lehigh Northampton Bucks Montgomery Delaware Chester Philadelphia Gloucester Camden Burlington Mercer New Castle Sunday, the heat reaches dangerous levels with highs in the upper 90s and overnight lows near 80. No organized storms are headed our way, and it should be dry through next Thursday. However, there is a chance of pop-up storms each day simply because of the available energy with the heat and humidity. Staying safe and cool in dangerous heat At these triple-digit temperatures and feels-like temperatures, heatstroke and heat exhaustion are possible. The cumulative effect of the extreme heat over 6 days can lead to additional health problems. Temperatures will not cool much overnight, providing little relief. Make sure to hydrate with nonalcoholic and non-sugary drinks. Spend time in the air conditioning and if overheated, try a cool shower. Never leave people or pets in a car, the heat builds quickly, and it can be deadly in minutes. Check on family and friends. Finally, keep pets indoors or in a shaded area with clean, cool water. Don't walk dogs on the hot pavement, their paws can burn. For some context Last year's first heatwave ran from June 18 to 23, and the last one hit at the end of July. Both topped out at 98 degrees. Hazardous heat in Ontario grows with rising severe storm, tornado risk
Heat and a growing thunderstorm threat this weekend will pose a threat to outdoor plans in southern Ontario. A large cluster of storms is forecast to sweep across southern Ontario Saturday, but with some uncertainty in timing and intensity. However, there is a widespread chance of severe storms north and east of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with torrential rainfall, large hail and potent wind gusts as the main hazards. There is even a tornado risk in northeastern Ontario. DON'T MISS: Be sure to keep an eye on local weather alerts as conditions change. In addition to the storm threat, high heat and humidity are expected. Together, they are a dangerous combination––even for relatively healthy individuals. Use extreme caution this weekend and next week as temperatures soar. The ridge of high pressure responsible for the building heat will nudge toward Ontario to start the weekend. This 'ring of fire,' as meteorologists call it, can serve as the focus for development of strong to severe thunderstorms. These clusters of storms can be quite difficult to forecast—but also quite intense with strong winds, torrential rain, and vivid lightning. RELATED: Renewed rounds of storms are expected to develop Saturday afternoon and continue into the overnight hours. The first batch of storms could build through the late afternoon and evening for northeastern, central and eastern Ontario. The second round could arrive late Saturday night and continue into the overnight hours. There is still lots of uncertainty on how these storms will develop, but all modes of severe weather will be possible—including torrential rains, strong wind gusts, large hail, and even one or two tornadoes in northeastern Ontario (severe-likely region). Make sure you have a way to receive severe weather warnings the moment they're issued. We'll see temperatures and humidity increase to dangerous levels as the ridge of high pressure intensifies through the weekend and into next week. Southern Ontario will endure a multi-day stretch of extreme heat and humidity beginning Sunday, with temperatures climbing into the low- to mid-30s and humidex values rising toward the mid-40s. Sunday through Tuesday will serve as the focus of the extreme heat and humidity. We're expecting at least three days of temperatures of 33°C or higher across most of the Greater Toronto Area and southwest—with daytime humidex values into the mid 40s. Overnight lows will remain in the mid 20s, providing little relief for those living without reliable access to air conditioning. Drink plenty of water. Avoid caffeine and alcohol, which can be dehydrating. Avoid direct sunlight, especially during peak hours and when the UV rating is high. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Use air conditioning when possible. If you do not have access to air conditioning, consider visiting a cooling centre, a shopping centre, or a public library. Check on elderly relatives and other vulnerable neighbors. Avoid strenuous activities during the hottest parts of the day.
