
Saudi Master's Student Clinches 2nd Place in IFLA Competition in Mexico
Haifa Abdullah Al Malih, a master's student in Environmental Architecture at King Abdulaziz University, along with her team, achieved second place in the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) competition held in Mexico. The event saw participation from 61 students representing over 15 countries.
This year, IFLA's global student program in Mexico centered on the theme 'Natural and Cultural Heritage Landscape in Tepoztlán, Mexico.' The competition serves as a vital platform for environmental architecture students worldwide to exchange knowledge, deepen their understanding of environmental, social, and cultural issues, and address the pressing challenges facing the planet.

Kingdom's higher education gaining global prominence
WASHINGTON: Taaref bin Yusuf Al-Aama, president of King Abdulaziz University, said that Saudi higher education is gaining prominence around the world. 'Higher education in the Kingdom is experiencing a qualitative renaissance and gaining a prominent position within the global academic landscape,' he said. 'This success is attributed to the unwavering support of the Kingdom's wise leadership and the strategic vision led by the Ministry of Education in line with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030.' In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency during the university's participation in the NAFSA 2025 International Education Expo in San Diego, US, Al-Aama said: 'Saudi universities, including King Abdulaziz University, have made substantial progress in education, research and innovation.' He also highlighted achievements in pioneering research and patents. This helps build a robust knowledge economy, he said. Through the expo, the university seeks to exchange expertise with international universities and promote its advanced academic programs, Al-Aama added. Higher education institutions in the Kingdom now offer study programs that operate in line with top international standards, he said.

Royal Institute of Traditional Arts implements Saudi-Chinese cultural exchange program
Saudi Gazette report RIYADH — The Royal Institute of Traditional Arts (Wirth), in partnership with the Academy of Arts and Design at Tsinghua University in China, implemented the Saudi-Chinese Cultural Exchange Program 2025. This program, from April 25 to 27, was part of its efforts to enhance cultural exchange and engage various segments of society in practicing handicrafts using distinctive cognitive methods, coinciding with the Year of Crafts 2025. The events included specialized workshops, most notably the traditional wood art workshop, which taught students how to decorate Najdi windows; the traditional metalworking workshop, which produced Chinese hairpins with designs inspired by traditional Saudi jewelry; and the traditional leather art workshop, which produced leather wallets. There were dialogue sessions and interactive workshops on traditional Saudi arts, most notably a dialogue session on the traditional art of roshan, and a lecture on traditional Saudi arts registered on UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage and their impact on cultural exchange, presented by Reema Al-Dosari, a lecturer at the College of Visual Arts at the Wirth Institute. Wirth is a leading entity in highlighting national identity and enriching Saudi traditional arts locally and internationally by promoting them, recognizing excellence in their fields, supporting national capabilities, and encouraging those interested in learning and developing them.
