£8.7m worth of cannabis plants seized in Yorkshire and The Humber
Thousands of cannabis plants worth more than £8.7m have been seized in a week-long operation across Yorkshire and the Humber.The region's four police forces located 35 active cannabis grows containing 8,716 plants.The action was part of national scheme Operation Mille and was coordinated by the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Organised Crime Unit (YHROCU).It said officers executed 58 warrants and seized cocaine, five machetes, gas canisters and an axe along with the cannabis plants and 29 people were arrested.
Det Supt Fiona Gaffney, who led the operation, said: "By focusing on this source of income for organised crime groups, we have significantly disrupted their activities and the wider distribution of cannabis within our communities."These people routinely use serious violence and the threat of it to protect their trade [and] exploit young and vulnerable people for their own profit."
In West Yorkshire, the operation saw more than £1.6m worth of plants seized along with a BMW and £3,000 in cash from an address in Leeds."Organised crime groups are often connected to violence, exploitation, and anti-social behaviour which causes untold misery in our communities," said Det Supt Steve Greenbank.He added that buildings used as cannabis grows can become dangerous due to fire risks, theft of electricity and water damage."Sharing information with the police at an early stage allows us to work closely together to tackle cannabis farms before they cause serious damage."We are committed to dismantling these operations and protecting our communities from the harm they cause."

Motorcyclist in critical condition after crash in Grimsby

Van passenger sustains serious injuries in Co Down crash
The 19-year-old male driver of a BMW was arrested following the collision in the Markethill Road area of Tandragee on Saturday afternoon. Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the two-vehicle crash which happened at around 1.40pm to come forward. 'The collision, between a white Peugeot van and white BMW 3 Series, left the passenger in the van with serious injuries,' a spokesperson said. 'These are not believed to be life-threatening at this time. "The driver of the BMW, a man aged 19, has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving and using a motor vehicle without insurance. He remains in custody at this time. 'We would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision to contact us on 101, quoting reference 720 of 07/06/25.'

A dead body was found in the back seat of a car parked near Gatwick Airport on Friday - locals claimed the car had been abandoned for months and was covered in dust A dead body has shockingly been discovered in the back seat of a car parked close to Gatwick Airport. The white BMW had reportedly been parked just a mile away from the major airport for months, but the corpse was only discovered on Friday. Ticket inspectors were also believed to have been in the area and slapped notices on the vehicle but failed to see the dead body inside the car. Forensic officers were spotted at the scene along with police as an investigation to establish how the person died and how their lifeless body was missed has been launched. How was the body found? The car was noticed after locals sent Crawley Borough Council multiple complaints to report a parking violation. The local council issued a warning notice on May 19 and detailed how the car was "untaxed", even slapping a note on the car that threatened it would be towed unless moved in a week. Despite this, the car is taxed until January 1, 2026, according to the government's vehicle tax site, and has a valid MOT until November 25. It is understood the alarm was raised by a recovery vehicle driver who went to take the car away. They called police to report a possible dead body inside the vehicle. How did the recovery vehicle driver spot the body? A person in a local Facebook group described the moment the recovery vehicle driver found the dead body. They claimed the driver "saw a man on the back seats, with a blanket over the front two seats to build a 'barrier' across as he was lying on the backseat - most likely was sleeping in the back". Another person added: "A recovery driver came this morning and smashed the back window to take the motor. As he did that he noticed the dead body on the back seats." Where was the dead body found? The vehicle was parked around a mile away from Gatwick Airport. It had been left at an industrial estate on Whittle Way in Crawley, around 2.3 miles away from Junction 10 of the M23. This road is home to several businesses and close to Parcelforce Worldwide's airport depot. How long has the body been there? It is unclear exactly how long the dead body had been left in the car - which was covered in dust. Some locals claimed the vehicle had been parked in the same spot since October last year. Other residents in a Facebook group shared how long they had seen the vehicle parked for. One person said: "I reported it about four months ago but the council only put stickers on it - but it has been there for eight months now." How did the person die? The circumstances around the tragic death have not been made public. It is unclear how the person died but Sussex Police confirmed the death is not currently being treated as suspicious. What have the police said? Police revealed an investigation into the shock discovery has been launched. A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "Police were called to Whittle Way in Northgate, Crawley, at around 10.30am on Friday, 6 June, to reports of a body found in a vehicle. "Enquiries are ongoing to identify the individual and establish the full circumstances of the situation."
