Lavrov and Rubio Discuss 'Concrete' Proposals Regarding the War in Ukraine The Russian Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov spoke with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio about preparing "concrete proposals" for a new round of direct talks with Kyiv. اضافة اعلان In a statement published on the ministry's website, it said, 'Lavrov spoke with Rubio about the implementation of agreements made between the Russian and American presidents during their phone call a week ago, and about Russia's preparation of concrete proposals for the next round of direct Russian-Ukrainian talks in Istanbul.' Lavrov previously stated, 'Russia is proposing to hold the next round of direct talks in Istanbul on June 2nd, with the aim of achieving a sustainable peaceful settlement.' During the joint call with Rubio, Lavrov affirmed the shared intention to continue constructive dialogue between the Russian and American diplomatic corps. The two also discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda. Earlier on Wednesday, Moscow proposed holding a new round of direct talks with Kyiv in Istanbul on the upcoming Monday, to present a draft 'memorandum' of peace that outlines its conditions for ending the war. Ukraine responded by saying it needs to review Russia's conditions in advance to ensure the meeting yields meaningful results. Russia noted that its Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov briefed his American counterpart Marco Rubio on the ongoing preparations in this regard. In a statement, Lavrov said, 'Our delegation is ready to present this memorandum to the Ukrainian delegation and provide the necessary clarifications during the second round of direct negotiations in Istanbul on Monday, June 2nd.' This diplomatic movement comes amid a recent escalation of large-scale aerial attacks exchanged between Ukraine and Russia in recent weeks. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump expressed 'deep disappointment' over Russia's bombing during ongoing negotiations but rejected calls to impose further sanctions on Moscow. Trump said, 'If I believe I'm close to reaching a deal, I don't want to mess it up by doing that.' Earlier Wednesday, the Kremlin rejected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's call for a trilateral summit with Presidents Trump and Putin.
Moscow stated that such a meeting would not take place unless 'firm agreements' are reached first.

Hamas receives 'Israeli' response to US truce proposal
Hamas has received the 'Israeli' response to a US-backed ceasefire proposal for Gaza and is reviewing it carefully, but the group says it falls far short of Palestinian demands, senior Hamas official Basem Naim told Reuters on Friday, May 30, 2025. 'The response does not meet any of the just and legitimate demands of the Palestinian people,' Naim said, emphasizing the group's dissatisfaction. According to Reuters, the American proposal outlines a 60-day ceasefire. During the first week, it calls for the release of 28 'Israeli' captives—both living and deceased—in exchange for 125 Palestinian political prisoners serving life sentences and the handover of the remains of 180 Palestinians. The plan, which the White House says is guaranteed by US President Donald Trump and mediators from Egypt and Qatar, also includes immediate humanitarian aid to Gaza upon Hamas signing the agreement. The deal obligates Hamas to release the final 30 'Israeli' captives once a permanent ceasefire is reached. On Thursday, the White House confirmed that Israeli Occupation had officially accepted the American proposal. However, in further comments to CNN, a senior Hamas official revealed that the group had previously submitted a detailed counterproposal via Palestinian-American envoy Bashara Bahbah to Trump's Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff. Hamas was reportedly 'shocked' by the US response, describing it as an 'Israeli document,' according to the official. Hamas's original counterproposal included three key demands: The release of all 'Israeli' captives. A 60-day ceasefire with American guarantees for continued negotiations leading to a permanent truce. The delivery of humanitarian aid through United Nations channels, and a withdrawal of 'Israeli' forces from areas occupied after March 2, 2025. Sources told CNN that these points were indeed communicated during discussions with Bahbah and shared with Witkoff. However, Hamas was surprised to find that none of its core demands were reflected in the latest proposal, reinforcing their belief that the document was shaped primarily by 'Israeli' interests.

Return of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Syria After 13 Years of Interruption - Jordan News
Return of the U.S. Diplomatic Mission to Syria After 13 Years of Interruption The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Faisal Al-Miqdad, and the U.S. Special Envoy to Syria, Thomas Barrett, inaugurated the residence of the U.S. Ambassador in Damascus, marking the official return of the U.S. diplomatic mission to the country after 13 years of interruption. اضافة اعلان The American flag was raised inside the residence in the presence of representatives from the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the U.S. Embassy, as well as several diplomats and journalists. This step is considered a practical indication of the development of Syrian-American relations following the new phase the country is witnessing. The United States had closed its embassy in Damascus in February 2012 due to the outbreak of the Syrian crisis. Since then, U.S. representation in Syria was limited to indirect functions through neighboring countries. The opening of the ambassador's residence represents a preparatory step toward the return of the U.S. ambassador to carry out his duties from inside Syria, in the context of the diplomatic thaw following the formation of the new government headed by Ahmad Shara. A series of international measures have also begun to lift the isolation of Damascus and reintegrate it into the regional and international political arena. — SANA
