FIFA launch probe into Rudiger racism allegation

FIFA has opened a disciplinary investigation into Pachuca's Gustavo Cabral after allegations he made a racist comment to Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger, the global football governing body said Tuesday.
The incident came towards the end of the game between the two teams at the Club World Cup on Sunday.

"Following an assessment of the match reports, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has opened proceedings against CF Pachuca player Gustavo Cabral in relation to the incident involving him and Real Madrid's Antonio Rudiger during the FIFA Club World Cup game played in Charlotte on 22 June," FIFA said on Tuesday.
Rudiger was visibly angered following an exchange of words with Argentine Cabral and spoke to Brazilian referee Ramon Abatti Abel.
Cabral denied he had racially abused the German centre-back.
Asked about the incident in the post-match press conference, Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso said: "In football there is no tolerance for this, and if it happened, then measures should be taken. This is what Antonio has told us and we believe him. It's being investigated now".

Cabral, 39, spoke after the game and said his words had been misinterpreted by Rudiger.
The Argentine said he had called the defender a "coward", with the Spanish phrase he used similar to another which is linked to racist abuse.
"The referee made the racism sign but I was telling him the same thing the whole time -- (coward)," said Cabral.

Club World Cup daily rankings: A new No. 1 as Bayern loses grip on top spot
Just as many a weekend warrior loathes Monday, perhaps Club World Cup participants despise playing on Tuesdays. It's one way to explain an uncharacteristically low-scoring day, with just eight goals across all four games and eight teams including some genuine tournament favorites. That narrowly exceeded the competition's low point for single-day scoring of seven goals… a mark hit last Tuesday. Advertisement Welcome to another edition of The Athletic's Club World Cup daily power rankings — our look at who's hot, who's not, and how the struggle for global club supremacy is shaking out. Unlike our pre-tournament rankings that focused on the historical might of each team, this series is designed to live very much in the present. Simply, we'll use the results of this competition alone to project who has the best chance to win the trophy — as well as teams who appear doomed to an early ticket home. Liam Delap scores his 1st Chelsea goal in 3-0 win over Esperance in Club World Cup
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Liam Delap scored his first goal for Chelsea and Enzo Fernández has two assists in a 3-0 win over Esperance on Tuesday night that helped clinch a round-of-16 berth in the Club World Cup. Tosin Adarabioyo scored on a header from 7 yards from Enzo Fernández's free kick in the third minute off first-half stoppage time. Delap scored two minutes later, taking Fernández's pass with his back to the goal, dribbling around Yassine Meriah and slotting past goalkeeper Bechir Ben Said. Tyrique George scored from the top of the circle seven minutes into second-half stoppage time on a shot that went in off the hands of Said. A crowd of 32,967 attended the match at Lincoln Financial Field on a 90-degree night during a heat wave . There were hydration breaks in both halves. Key moment Delap's goal was his first since the 22-year-old joined Chelsea from Ipswich just before the tournament. Takeaways Chelsea finished with six points, one behind Group D leader Flamengo, and will play Benfica on Saturday at Charlotte, North Carolina, in the round of 16.
