Everton out to break 33-year record amid plans for a cross-city move for Liverpool talent Ben Doak

Yahoo24-05-2025

Everton are eyeing a shocking move for Liverpool teenager Ben Doak, The Guardian reports.
David Moyes is reportedly a huge fan of the dazzling 19-year-old who had a decent loan spell at Middlesbrough, and the Scotsman sees him as an ideal addition to his Everton side.
The Toffees have reportedly discussed a potential bid for Doak, who featured 24 times in the Championship and notched three goals and seven assists for Middlesbrough.
Unfortunately, a hamstring injury prematurely ended his loan spell in January.
Doak has struggled to break into Liverpool's star-studded senior team. He has made just ten appearances since joining the club from Celtic in 2022 but is still highly rated at Anfield.
Liverpool aren't actively looking to sell but wouldn't be against a summer exit. However, they're holding out for a fee between £25-30 million for the Scottish youth international.
That price could throw a wrench in Everton's plans.
Keen to stay on the right side of the Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), the Toffees are taking a more cautious approach to spending under their new leaders.
Liverpool have already turned down £15m and £16m bids in January from Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town, respectively. Everton are the latest Premier League side to sound out an interest in Doak.
It's rare to see a transfer that crosses the fierce city divide. If the Toffees manage to pull it off, Doak will become the first Liverpool player to join Everton since Gary Ablett in 1992.
Moyes wants to make Doak his first summer addition as Everton prepare for a huge summer rebuild.
The Scotsman's return to Merseyside has been a huge success, with Everton set to finish 13th in the Premier League table after flirting with relegation earlier in the season.
Everton are gearing up for a massive shake-up with Abdoulaye Doucoure, Ashley Young, Asmir Begovic and Joao Virginia among those who will leave when their contracts expire.
Five players who spent the campaign on loan will also leave the club, while decisions need to be made on Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Michael Keane and Idrissa Gueye, whose contracts are up at the end of June.

Former Liverpool star's son signs for Arsenal in LANDMARK deal

Once you become a Liverpool player, you enter into a family former, current and future players. Some might not be looked at as fondly as some of the others because of decisions they made when leaving the club, but they all donned the Liverbird on their chest at some point. Advertisement As you would expect, Trent Alexander-Arnold's legacy now falls into the camp of Steve McManaman and Michael Owen rather than Steven Gerrard. Each player's situation dictates how the fans see them. In the case of Raheem Sterling, the fans are largely in agreement that he will be booed - he was a homegrown talent who had made his way into the first-team at 18 years old, but after three years he left in search of greater playing time. In the grand scheme of things, his reputation is middling. Sterling's son signs for Arsenal Well, regardless of how his relationship with the fans is, you might've expected his children to follow his pathway and join the Liverpool academy if they wanted to become professional footballers. Advertisement However, the Englishman has decided to take his kids elsewhere, with North London's Arsenal taking his fancy, which could suggest one of two things. Firstly, the relationship with the Reds might be pretty non-existent now, given he spent seven years at Manchester City, so his time on Merseyside somewhat pales into insignificance. But secondly, his loan spell from Chelsea to Arsenal has seemingly made a big impression on him, despite the move failing to work out for either party in footballing terms. Sterling didn't get the minutes he was after and he was unable to a difference to the Gunners' attacking threat, perhaps due to a mis-match between the team and the player or merely a sign of decline. It was announced yesterday that his nine-year-old son Thiago will be joining the program.

Liverpool title winner offered SURPRISE escape route by former club

Liverpool look set to conduct a summer overhaul in the transfer market. The club have been linked with several star names - including Florian Wirtz - and have already secured the signing of Jeremie Frimpong. Sporting director Richard Hughes and head coach Arne Slot are also eyeing long-term solutions at left-back, which has become a priority position for the summer market. Advertisement Andy Robertson, 31, is out of contract in 2026 and wasn't always at his best last season. Kostas Tsimikas, meanwhile, has never truly convinced that he could take over from the Scotland international on a full-time basis. The duo shared duties throughout the 2024/25 season but an upgrade is being sought. Left-back to be sacrificed Milos Kerkez looks like he is the chosen candidate - and is said to be close to completing a £45m transfer from Bournemouth in the upcoming days. There won't be space for three senior left-backs at the club however and one of Robertson and Tsimikas should leave. The Greek, 29, is out of contract in 2027 and would probably bring in more money than if Robertson was sold. Advertisement And now Tsimikas has been linked with a return to former club Olympiacos - following earlier transfer rumours suggesting he was a target for Leeds. © IMAGO Olympiacos want Tsimikas back 'Olympiacos is looking favorably on the prospect of "Tsimi" returning to the port,' reads a report in Metrosport in Greece. The Greek champions are seeking to bolster their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League. Tsimikas would provide experience and quality for the 2024 UEFA Europa Conference League winners. He spent five years on the books of Olympiacos before joining Liverpool back in 2020. Tsimikas played 29 times under Arne Slot during the 2024/25 season. He made nine starts in the Premier League and five in the Champions League. Overall he's played in 115 matches for the Reds in five years, winning all the major domestic honours during his time at the club.

Liverpool looking to seal deal for £45m-rated Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth

Arne Slot has made Kerkez his first-choice target for strengthening at left-back and Liverpool are increasingly confident of completing a deal, though Bournemouth are holding out for their full valuation of the 21-year-old. Advertisement Kerkez, who can also operate as a left wing-back, is keen on a move to Merseyside and Liverpool's position is strengthened by Richard Hughes' involvement in negotiations. The Liverpool sporting director was technical director at Bournemouth when Kerkez was signed from AZ Alkmaar in 2023 and is leading talks with his former club. Liverpool have already signed one full-back/wing-back this summer with the £29.5m transfer of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen and want to improve their options on the opposite flank. The arrival of Kerkez could lead to the exit of Kostas Tsimikas, who has provided back-up to Andy Robertson throughout his five years on Merseyside. Bournemouth are facing an exodus of defensive talent this summer with Real Madrid activating Dean Huijsen's £50m release clause and his fellow centre-back, Ilya Zabarnyi, a target for European champions Paris Saint-Germain. Liverpool also remain in talks with Leverkusen over what would be a club-record signing of Florian Wirtz.
