Punjab issues COVID advisory amid rise in cases, Ludhiana emerges as hotspot
CHANDIGARH: Amid a slight rise in COVID-19 cases, the Punjab Government has issued a public advisory urging high-risk individuals such as the elderly, pregnant women, immunocompromised persons, and those with underlying health conditions to wear masks in crowded or enclosed spaces. Health care workers have also been advised to adhere strictly to COVID-appropriate behaviour.
The advisory, issued on Friday, reads: 'Due to a slight rise in COVID-19 cases in some parts of the country, a precautionary advisory is being issued. Though the situation in Punjab is under control and the health system is fully prepared, citizens are advised to follow basic safety measures to help prevent the spread of infection.'
Among the recommended practices, the advisory states that vulnerable individuals and health care staff should wear masks in crowded or closed spaces. It further advises:
Cover your mouth and nose while coughing/sneezing using a handkerchief, tissue or elbow crease.
If you feel sick (fever, cough, breathing difficulty), wear a mask and consult a doctor.

2 covid patients with severe comorbidities die in city
Nagpur: The death of two patients with severe comorbidities from Nagpur were officially attributed to Covid-19 on Saturday. Both victims were males — a 56-year-old patient, who was suffering from diabetes and hypertension, and a 32-year-old cancer patient with anaemia. With the test results showing them to be positive, the deaths were added to the state's Covid-19 toll. According to the state health department, Maharashtra reported 53 new Covid cases on Saturday. The highest number of cases were from Mumbai (24), followed by Pune city (11), Thane city (5), Pimpri-Chinchwad (3), Sangli district (2), Pune district (2), Sangli city (2), Navi Mumbai (1), and Raigad (1). Maharashtra currently has 578 active Covid-19 cases, of which five are in Nagpur. All active cases in the district are reportedly mild. The state continues its routine surveillance of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (Sari). As per protocol, 5% of ILI cases and all Sari cases are being tested for Covid. All positive samples are being forwarded for whole genome sequencing to monitor any changes in the virus. "ILI and Sari surveillance is being actively conducted in the state. There is a gradual but definite rise in Covid cases in Maharashtra. However, the symptoms remain mild and testing and treatment services are readily available through public health facilities. Suspected Covid case detected in Dhanbad
Dhanbad: A suspected Covid case has been detected in the city, prompting swift action from the district health authorities. The patient, who was undergoing treatment at a private hospital, was reported to have symptoms related to the virus. Following the alert, a medical team went to the hospital and immediately isolated the patient. His travel history is being thoroughly examined and his sample was sent for testing. An official confirmation is now awaited. DC Aditya Ranjan said, "We are waiting for the test results. As per govt guidelines, we are making all necessary preparations to prevent the spread of the infection." Civil surgeon Dr Bhanu Pratapan also said the department has been put on high alert and all protocols were being followed. "Necessary precautions have been taken and our teams are actively monitoring the situation," he added. Meanwhile, officials have begun contact tracing and sanitisation procedures in and around the private hospital where the patient was admitted. The district administration appealed to people to remain calm and adhere to Covid-appropriate behaviour, including wearing masks in crowded places and practising social distancing.

Ludh reports highest 1-day Covid cases so far this yr
Ludhiana: Seven more persons tested positive for Covid in Ludhiana Saturday, marking the highest single-day tally for the district this year. According to the health department's daily Covid bulletin, the seven persons who tested positive include three males and four females. Among them are males aged 19, 22, and 28 years, and females aged 13, 13, 55, and 56 years. As of Saturday, the total number of cases reported in Ludhiana is 38, of which 15 are active cases. Thirteen patients are in home isolation and two are in hospital, while 21 persons, who tested positive, have completed home quarantine. A health department officer said of the 42 samples they received on Saturday, seven returned positive. Of the seven, two are asymptomatic and five symptomatic cases, with four having mild symptoms and one moderate. Health department officials said the patients admitted to the hospital are aged 55 and 56 years. The children who tested positive for Covid are from the same family. Dr Ramandeep Kaur, civil surgeon (Ludhiana), issued an advisory in view of a slight uptick in Covid-19 cases in some parts of the country.
