Nat Sciver-Brunt has begun her tenure as England Women's ODI captain by steering her side to a 3-0 clean sweep against the West Indies.

The final victory came in a rain-affected match at Taunton, where England chased down 107 in just 65 balls with nine wickets to spare. The contest, shortened to 21 overs per side due to rain, saw England opt to field after winning the toss.
Their bowlers quickly capitalized on the conditions, restricting the West Indies to 106 for 8. England then cruised to victory, with Sciver-Brunt leading with a composed half-century.
"That's a great way to finish the series," Sciver-Brunt said after the match. "It has rained a few times in Taunton. We wanted to have a bit more opportunity in the middle, but bowling first and the rain didn't help that."
This series marked a significant chapter for England, as it was their first under Sciver-Brunt's captaincy following the departure of longtime skipper Heather Knight in March.

Sciver-Brunt emphasized the importance of exploring different player combinations in the build-up to the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India, which begins on September 30.
"Looking at different combinations, trying things out. We have to gather information or we won't be able to explore them nearer to the World Cup,' she said. 'It's a pleasing thing to see that everyone given an opportunity has put their hand up.'
England now turns its attention to domestic fixtures before regrouping for the eight-team World Cup, where it'll face top sides including Australia, India, and New Zealand.

Clarke gets positives before World Cup quest
With the mood around the national team a bit edgy, this game had the feel of a no-win situation for Steve Clarke and his players. Of course they had to win, but they needed a few more positives to come out of it than just that. Advertisement Clarke will be pleased to have got a few. Firstly, Che Adams scoring a treble was a big boost given no Scotland striker had scored for the national side in a year. George Hirst also grabbed an instinctive first international goal, capping a decent two games for the Ipswich striker on his first couple of starts. There was also the performance of 18-year-old Lennon Miller, who although the level of opponent was weaker than the Scottish Premiership sides he faces every week, impressed. He was crucial in Adams' second goal, with his pressure and then pass, teeing the striker up to give Scotland breathing space. Advertisement There were other flashes from him, too. Whether it was a couple of piercing passes into forward players, or one-two combinations out wide to get Scotland moving forward, he was in the thick of the action. There were also debuts for Andy Irving, Josh Doig, Connor Barron and Kieron Bowie. Clarke said these games would have no bearing on how they start the World Cup qualifiers, but the Scotland boss will be grateful to be heading for the holidays on a brighter note.

FIGC advance proposal to Ranieri, Friedkins must decide
The Italian Federation is planning to advance an official proposal to Claudio Ranieri. The FIGC – led by Gabriele Gravina – have identified in Ranieri the right successor to Luciano Spalletti who will be dismissed after tonight's match against Moldova. Advertisement According to Tuttomercatoweb, the offer will arrive in the next hours with Ranieri receiving the proposal to lead Italy until July 2026, so until the next World Cup. The proposal will also involve an invitation to work for the FIGC as a director after the World Cup, but that will be discussed further on eventually. In the meantime, the FIGC would be content with Ranieri handling both the role of technical commissioner of the national team and advisor to Roma. The final decision is now up to the Friedkins who can still veto this offer.

Do Bills Actually Need James Cook For Super Bowl Run?
Do Bills Actually Need James Cook For Super Bowl Run? originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Buffalo Bills running back James Cook has been one of the more consistent players at his position over the last few seasons. Advertisement He has recorded over 1,000 yards rushing in back-to-back years, and even led the league in touchdowns on the ground in 2024. Since being drafted in the second round by the Bills, Cook has shown to be a very serviceable star for their offense. Now comes the tricky part. Cook is entering the final year of his contract with the Bills and has sat out of offseason workouts as a way to push the team to negotiate. That has yet to happen. Cook's contract situation is complex. He has consistently pushed for a new deal that would pay him an average of $15 million since the offseason began. Buffalo, with under $5 million in cap space to their name, doesn't have that kind of money to give to a position of lesser value. Advertisement Buffalo has a strong collection of running backs behind Cook. Players like second-year runner Ray Davis, Ty Johnson, and Darrynton Evans all bring something unique to Buffalo's backfield. Add in the league MVP Josh Allen with his athleticism, and the Bills should still be able to compete for a Super Bowl even without Cook in for certain games and practices. That is the reality of the situation. While Cook is a very good running back, he doesn't have the kind of talent that a Christian McCaffrey or a Saquon Barkley have for their respective teams. And if a team doesn't have a player like Barkley or McCaffrey in the backfield, then they shouldn't re-sign their current runner to a lucrative deal. Advertisement It seems like that is exactly what Buffalo is arguing as well.
