Yoga mats are rolling out across Bahrain as the Indian Embassy launched its 25-day countdown to International Day of Yoga 2025 with a curtain raiser event at its premises, drawing participation from across the Kingdom.
Community stretch
The launch event brought together students from Embassy-run yoga classes, Indian community members, Embassy officials, and local yoga enthusiasts in a shared celebration of wellness and unity.
It marked the latest in a series of pre-Yoga Day initiatives, including earlier sessions held in April to commemorate the 75-day and 50-day milestones.
Officials said the campaign is part of a broader drive to promote healthy living and mindfulness through yoga, not just among the Indian diaspora, but across Bahrain's diverse communities.
Month of movement
Throughout June, the Embassy will continue hosting yoga-related activities leading up to the global celebration on June 21st, recognised worldwide as International Day of Yoga.
The calendar will include public sessions, outreach initiatives, and awareness campaigns highlighting the physical and mental benefits of yoga.
The Embassy has invited all yoga lovers and practitioners in Bahrain to join the movement and take part in the upcoming main event, describing it as an opportunity to connect with a global wave of wellness.
By building momentum throughout the month, the Indian Embassy hopes to highlight yoga as a tool for inner peace, cultural exchange, and cross-border harmony.

Tech Elevates Tradition

TDT | Manama As Bahrain readies for Eid Al Adha, preparations across the Kingdom's mosques reflect a growing blend of tradition and technology. Modern sound systems have been installed in key prayer halls, ensuring that the sacred chants of the season are heard clearly and uniformly during one of Islam's holiest gatherings. The Sunni Endowments Council, under the leadership of Shaikh Dr. Rashid bin Mohammed bin Ftais Al Hajri, announced that all arrangements for Eid prayers have been finalised in coordination with relevant authorities. The efforts are aimed at creating a spiritually uplifting and logistically seamless experience for worshippers across all governorates. Assigned work teams have spent recent days cleaning courtyards, readying interior spaces, and deploying organisational staff to prayer locations. In particular, attention has been given to enhancing the main prayer halls and ensuring that each site is fully equipped for high turnout.

Bahrain To Experience Typical Summer Weather

The Kingdom of Bahrain is expected to experience typical summer weather during the upcoming Eid Al-Adha holidays, with daytime temperatures reaching the low 40s°C and nighttime temperatures dropping to the high 20s°C-closely aligning with the monthly average for June. According to the Meteorological Directorate, wind speeds are expected to ease during the holiday period. Winds will generally be light and variable in direction, though they may occasionally become moderate during daytime hours. In recent days, Bahrain and the wider Arabian Gulf have experienced strong northwesterly winds, sometimes reaching severe levels. This was due to the seasonal extension of the Indian monsoon low-pressure system, which affects the region during this time of year. This system typically brings about dominant northwesterly winds, locally known as Barah winds. The Meteorological Directorate advises residents and visitors to remain updated on weather conditions during the festive period and to take necessary precautions during peak afternoon hours. A stampede broke out as a tightly packed crowd celebrated the sporting win of their home cricket team in the Indian city of Bengaluru, resulting in multiple deaths, local media reported on Wednesday. AFP could not immediately confirm the death toll, which India's NDTV broadcaster reported to have left at least 11 people dead. The Times of India newspaper reported seven dead. An AFP photographer saw an intense crush of crowds as a sea of people crammed the streets. Broadcasters showed police carrying young children in their arms rushing away from crowds, who had seemingly fainted. One unattended young man was sitting in an ambulance struggling to breathe. Karnataka state's Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said he was not able to immediately confirm deaths. 'This is not a controllable crowd,' he said, speaking to reporters. 'The police were finding it very difficult.' 'I apologise to the people of Karnataka and Bengaluru,' he said. 'We wanted to take a procession, but the crowd was very uncontrollable… the crowd was so much.' Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences to the victims. 'The mishap in Bengaluru is absolutely heartrending. In this tragic hour, my thoughts are with all those who have lost their loved ones. I pray that those who are injured have a speedy recovery,' the Prime Minister's Office posted on X.
