Kid Rock opening Nashville restaurant, takes jab at some old foes back in Detroit

Yahoo29-04-2025

Five years after the closure of his Detroit eatery, Kid Rock is expanding his restaurant business — and with a chip on his shoulder.
The Michigan-born rap-rocker has announced the Detroit Cowboy, a Nashville fine-dining establishment serving steaks and seafood. The restaurant will open May 5 in Music City's downtown district.
The Detroit Cowboy is a partnership between Rock and Joe Muer Seafood, the iconic Detroit brand absorbed in 2011 by Joe Vicari Restaurant Group. The new establishment will take over the site of Joe Muer's Nashville location, which opened in 2017.
'Go where you're celebrated, not tolerated,' reads the restaurant's website tagline.
It restates a phrase Kid Rock used during a testy response in December 2019, when Ilitch Holdings announced the end of its licensing deal for Rock's Made in Detroit restaurant at Little Caesars Arena.
For two years, the LCA diner had been subject to protests by Al Sharpton's National Action Network, which redoubled its efforts following the musician's onstage tirade against Oprah Winfrey.
Rock alluded to that 2019 situation in a Tuesday social media post: 'A small group of very bad people thought they cancelled me and my restaurant in Detroit in 2020,' he wrote. 'All you dumb****s did was hurt the city I LOVE.'
The Detroit Cowboy is the second Nashville establishment for Kid Rock, who has lived primarily in Tennessee for more than a decade: His music club-restaurant, Big Ass Honky Tonk & Steakhouse, opened in 2018.

Nick Jonas 'to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in biopic'

Nick Jonas has reportedly been lined up to play KISS frontman Paul Stanley in a new biopic. The pop star/actor is believed to have been tapped to portray the band's frontman in 'Shout It Out Loud', which will be directed by McG and will chart the rock band's rise to fame. The Hollywood Reporter reports Jonas is in "final talks" to take on the role of Stanley, while movie bosses are still looking for an actor to play the singer's bassist bandmate Gene Simmons. The group is helping to develop the project while Stanley and Simmons are among the producers along with McG. reports Jonas plans to take on singing duties in the film and needs time to train his voice to be able to emulate Stanley's signature vocals. Longtime KISS manager Doc McGhee previously revealed the movie would focus on the band's first four years together after forming in the 1970s. Speaking to Talking Metal in 2021, he explained: "[The script is] completely done … And the script is about the first four years of KISS. Basically, it's before they were famous - it was up to Cadillac High [KISS' famous gig in a high school gym in Cadillac, Michigan in 1975] , that kind of thing ... "And I think it's a very interesting look at the formation of KISS, the mindset of how that came about, the social pressure that everybody was in in the '60s and '70s that brought something like KISS to the forefront, that it could actually happen. So it's a very interesting, and I think it's a well-written movie." Stanley has also previously spoken about the movie, telling broadcaster Kylie Olsson in 2021: "[The movie is] definitely happening. And that's gonna be really interesting. The script was really good. And we really waited until we felt comfortable." He added of actors who could play him in the film: "I will tell you this: for casting to be accurate in terms of age, we are looking at actors in their early 20s. "Honestly, I don't know a whole lot of actors in their early 20s. When people get asked these kinds of questions, they'll say, 'Oh, Brad Pitt,' or this one or that one. "Well, those guys are in their 50s or 60s, so you're talking about another generation of actors. And I'm the first to say I'm not up on a lot of them. "But as the casting process goes on, I'll certainly be there and watching. It'll be interesting to see how someone else- be it the casting people or the director - how they view who I am and who they see doing that. I think I'll learn a lot about their perception of me by who they cast."

Michigan native Mike Posner headlines Ann Arbor's Sonic Lunch season opener

Crowds of people filled Ann Arbor's Liberty Plaza on Thursday for the return of Sonic Lunch. The Bank of Ann Arbor sponsors the free concert series, which is now in its 18th season. Despite the rainy conditions, fans drove over to see headliner Mike Posner. "We drove like two and a half hours," said fan Micheal Williams. "We drove an hour at like 9 a.m.," said fan Morgan Cherry. "(I'm) probably one of Mike Posner's biggest fans." The series offers free concerts every Thursday from June through August, and this year's lineup is one of its biggest yet. "We have Phillip Phillips. We have The Accidentals, May Erlewine, Laith Al-Saadi," said organizer Matthew Altruda. A Detroit native, Posner said he grew up attending Michigan football games with his father, who attended the University of Michigan. He said it always feels good to come home for a show. "It's always good to play in Michigan in general and in Ann Arbor especially, love it here," said Posner. "I've been playing here for a long time." DJ and reality TV star Brody Jenner is currently on tour with Posner. "Mike's going on a big festival tour and we're playing some big, big shows, and he needed a DJ," said Jenner. "Our agent asked if I wanted to do it, and I was like, 'Yes, absolutely.' I've always been a fan of Mike, and he's one of my favorite artists, so it's a dream come true." Visit the Sonic Lunch website for more information and this summer's lineup.
