Former Hibs player sues club over training injury from manager
A former Hibernian player is suing the Scottish Premiership club over injuries suffered in a training game involving an ex-manager.Lawyers for Jake Doyle-Hayes said the midfielder's career had been "greatly restricted" by the ankle issue sustained in a tackle with Lee Johnson in 2022.Doyle-Hayes, 26, who also played for St Mirren and Aston Villa, raised a compensation action against the club at the Court of Session in Edinburgh on Wednesday.A Hibs spokesperson said the club was aware of the claim.
Doyle-Hayes left the Easter Road side by mutual consent in January and subsequently joined Sligo Rovers in the League of Ireland. He made 69 appearances for the club between 2021 and 2024, but just six of those came in his last two seasons.
On his release, the club said that Doyle-Hayes' playing time "had been hampered by injury over the last two seasons".The Republic of Ireland youth international's lawyers said that was down to "horrific injuries" suffered in the incident during the training session. He underwent surgery as a result of the tackle by Johnson in 2022.Thompsons Solicitors, representing Doyle-Hayes, said they could not comment on the figure sought by the player but said the potential loss of earnings was substantial. They argue that, without the injury, his career would have continued at a higher level.
'Derailed by mismanagement'
Joel Shaw, partner at the firm, said the midfielder's career had been "lost" as a result of the injury. He said: "The impact of this has greatly restricted his career."These injuries should never have happened and were incurred due to incompetent and incoherent decisions made by his manager."Jake's career has been derailed by mismanagement and ineptitude. A career has been lost to this athlete."
Johnson, who previously managed Bristol City and Sunderland, was sacked by Hibs in August 2023.He was most recently interim manager at Lommel SK in the second tier of Belgian football.Johnson declined to comment when contacted by BBC Scotland News.A Hibs spokesperson said: "The club is aware of the claim, however as an ongoing matter shall not be commenting further at this stage."

David Beckham posts 12-word message to celebrate PSG's emphatic Champions League win after watching the final alongside Tom Cruise
was in the thick of the celebrations on Saturday night after Paris Saint-Germain finally got their hands on the Champions League trophy. PSG became only the second French club to conquer Europe — and they did so in style by thrashing Inter Milan 5-0 at Munich's Allianz Arena. Beckham's club career is best remembered for his spells at Manchester United and Real Madrid, but he actually ended his playing days with PSG. The 50-year-old ex-England captain made 14 appearances for PSG in the 2012-13 season, having earlier played for Inter's fierce rivals AC Milan. Shortly after the final whistle on Saturday, Beckham made it clear that he had been rooting for the French side in Munich when he posted a picture of himself grinning as PSG's players and fans celebrated in the background. Beckham captioned the image with a 12-word message. It read: 'History made. Congratulations @PSG. WOW what an incredible game. Ici c'est Paris'. Beckham had watched the game from a private box in Munich alongside Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise. He and Cruise were also joined by presenter Kate Scott for a CBS Sports watchalong, which was part of a Champions League series titled: Beckham & Friends Live The match itself was one for the ages, with 19-year-old Desire Doue stealing the show. The teenager scored twice and assisted another goal, helping Luis Enrique's side deliver the biggest margin of victory in Champions League final history. Achraf Hakimi, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu sealed PSG's win, capping a campaign that had already seen them knock out Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal.

Ruben Amorim plans brutal pre-season with Man Utd flops quizzed on holidays and told to hit personal bests or face axe
RUBEN AMORIM is ready to get tough with his Manchester United flops as he chases a flying start next season. The Red Devils boss wants to take a hardline pre-season approach in his quest to turn his 'chokers' into Champions League material, with jobs — including his own — on the line. 4 4 And the Portuguese is determined that a lack of fitness will not be an excuse for his squad, in the wake of a disastrous campaign last time out — the club's worst since the relegation season of 1973-74. SunSport understands Amorim has delivered a list of instructions to ensure United are in top shape for the new Prem season, which starts on the weekend of August 16. It is believed non-international players could return to the club's Carrington HQ earlier than normal, with a suggestion some may be back training by the end of THIS month. Amorim wants fitness levels to be sky high, demanding that players hit personal bests by mid-July. And if they fail to achieve those targets then they face being sidelined from his United revolution. Boss Amorim has also told his squad they need to be fitter than ever because he wants them to be all over their opponents 'like white on rice' from day one next season. It is understood Amorim has even quizzed his players on where they are going on holiday as he looks to shake up his failing squad and leave nothing to chance. United finished 15th in the Prem and also lost in the Europa League final to Tottenham — meaning there will be no European football at Old Trafford next season. Amorim — who initially did not want to join United from Sporting last November as he feared mid- season turbulence — needs an upturn in results and performance quickly, so he is focusing on an intense pre-season programme to get his men up to speed from the kick-off. He is also keen to capitalise on rivals Manchester City and Chelsea having a disrupted start to the new Prem season should they go deep into the revamped Club World Cup this summer, with the final on July 13. Ruben Amorim vows 'good days are coming' after 'disaster season' as Man Utd flops give him daggers during public apology A club source said: 'Amorim needs a good pre-season. He's not shied away from the pressure he's under. 'He would have always preferred to have arrived at United ahead of a new season rather than in the middle of it. 'He has to get this right. He's told the players there are no more excuses. His job is on the line — and so too is theirs. 'The club can't accept any more failures.' Amorim is well aware of the pressure building and the scrutiny on his own position, never mind his players. His side suffered an embarrassing 1-0 loss to the ASEAN All-Stars before a 3-1 win over Hong Kong on their two-game post-season tour to Asia. Amorim slammed his players after the first game as "chokers" after they were booed off by Far East fans. 4 Following the second game on Friday, Amorim was asked if he had a summer message for his players — and hinted he feared for the condition of his stars during their time away from the club. He replied: 'I was a player and you can disconnect. They know that we under-performed badly this season. 'The important thing for me is the body composition, the weight and the training — they need to be ready. 'We have to use every minute in every week of the pre-season. So we need to arrive in shape. 'These small things, they have all the measures. We had a briefing about that. It's the only way to take action to be better next season. 'They know, everyone knows that the next year is going to be massive for everybody. 'I have been sending messages every week and they know next year, it is clear that we need to be so much better.' United face a big summer of transfer activity. 4 Christian Eriksen, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans have all left on free transfers, while the future of captain Bruno Fernandes hangs in the balance. Amorim is closing in on a £62.5million deal for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha, while he has lined up Sporting's Pedro Goncalves as a potential replacement for Fernandes if he takes the £100m offer from Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. Argentine winger Alejandro Garnacho is not in Amorim's plans next season and is free to leave. United begin their preparations with a friendly against Prem new boys Leeds in Stockholm on July 19.

PSG fans unveil moving tribute to Luis Enrique's daughter after Champions League win
Paris Saint-Germain supporters unveiled a moving tribute to manager Luis Enrique 's late daughter Xana after the club's Champions League final victory over Inter Milan. Xana died at the age of nine in 2019, a few months after she was diagnosed with of a rare form of bone cancer, and she was at the forefront of Enrique's mind in Munich as PSG celebrated their Champions League triumph. Xana had celebrated with her father when he led Barcelona to the Champions League in 2015. Xana, who was five years old at the time, planted a Barcelona flag on the pitch in Berlin. Before the Champions League final, Enrique revealed he was motivated to repeat the celebrations and plant a Paris Saint-Germain flag, in their colours, on the pitch in Munich as tribute to Xana. When PSG defeated Inter to win the Champions League for the first time, the PSG supporters unveiled a huge banner of Enrique and Xana side by side planting the PSG flag. Enrique also wore a black t-shirt that displayed a similar image of them planting a flag together, which is also the emblem of Xana's foundation. "I have an amazing photo of her planting a Barcelona flag into the turf," Enrique said earlier this season. "I want to be able to do the same with a PSG flag. 'My daughter won't be there in the physical sense, but she will be there spiritually, and that's very important to me."
