Two Premier League clubs ‘lining up shock Mason Greenwood transfer' with ex-Man Utd star pining for a return to England

The Sun10-05-2025

TWO Premier League clubs are lining up a shock transfer for Mason Greenwood, according to reports.
SunSport revealed last week that the former Manchester United striker is pining for a return to England.

Greenwood, 23, left his boyhood club United last summer to sign for Marseille for £26.6million.
He put pen to paper on a five-year deal in southern France.
But after just one season, Greenwood — who had charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour dropped in February 2023 — is yearning for a return to the UK with partner Harriet Robson and their two young daughters.
And according to The Telegraph, at least a pair of unnamed Premier League clubs are exploring the possibility of making an approach to sign Greenwood.
Serie A or LaLiga could also be the next destination should he leave Marseille, while the Saudi Pro League may be an option, too, if one of the leading clubs can create a space in the squad.
Greenwood spent the 2023-24 season on loan in Spain with Getafe, scoring ten goals in 36 games.
This term at Marseille, he has delivered 20 goals in 35 games across all competitions, including the crucial late winner at Le Havre on Saturday night.
According to Opta stats, that ranks him as Europe's fifth most effective player and only narrowly behind Cole Palmer.
But fans, who protested his arrival last summer, as well as manager Roberto De Zerbi have made their feelings known about his perceived lack of work rate.
He was dropped by the ex-Brighton boss in March because he "expects more from him".
Mason Greenwood to switch allegiance to Jamaica
And a banner telling him to "get a move on" and leave the club was unfurled at some matches.
Now he is keen to explore his options back in England, for whom he earned one senior cap before switching international allegiance to Jamaica.
A source told SunSport: "When Mason first left United, he loved Spain.
'He and Harriet moved to Madrid and rebuilt their lives.
'He loved the fact he could just play football and his life off the pitch was not the subject of such intense focus.
'He was really happy to sign for Marseille and loved living in France."

Kneecap receive rockstar reception after terrorism charge court hearing

Rap group Kneecap received a rockstar reception outside court as a judge heard one of its members faces criminal charges for allegedly supporting a proscribed terrorist organisation and not his support for the people of Palestine. Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who performs under the stage name Mo Chara, and his bandmates Naoise Ó Cairealláin and JJ Ó Dochartaigh were cheered by hundreds of supporters as they arrived in 'Free Mo Chara' T-shirts at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Wednesday. Advertisement Dozens surged around the entrance of the court building as they made their way inside, with some also entering the lobby before the hearing, trying to get close to the Belfast trio. Kneecap's Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh leaves Westminster Magistrates' Court through a crowd of supporters (Jordan Pettitt/PA) Ó hAnnaidh was charged last month after allegedly displaying a flag in support of proscribed terrorist organisation Hezbollah at a gig in November last year. The court heard the 27-year-old is 'well within his rights' to voice his opinions on Israel and Palestine, but the alleged incident at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, north London, is a 'wholly different thing'. After the brief hearing concluded, the defendant exited the court building to a festival-like atmosphere, with fans waving flags, playing drums and one supporter setting off a smoke canister. Advertisement During the hearing, the allegations against Ó hAnnaidh were summarised by prosecutor Michael Bisgrove, who said: 'It's not about Mr Ó hAnnaidh's support for the people of Palestine or his criticism of Israel. 'He's well within his rights to voice his opinions and solidarity, as is anybody else. 'The allegation in this case is a wholly different thing and deals with a video recording showing that, in November of last year, Mr Ó hAnnaidh wore and displayed the flag of Hezbollah, a proscribed terrorist organisation, while saying 'up Hamas, up Hezbollah'. 'Of course, support for the one is not the same as support for the other. Advertisement 'So the issue in this case, and the reason it has come to court, it centres on the apparent support by Mr Ó hAnnaidh of a proscribed terrorist organisation.' Hundreds of supporters were stationed outside court on Wednesday (Jordan Pettitt/PA) Wearing a dark zip-up jacket and trousers, the defendant spoke briefly to confirm his identity at the beginning of the hearing. Hundreds of fans, along with journalists, crammed against the doors of the court building as they waited for the performer to leave. Outside court following the hearing, Ó hAnnaidh's bandmate, Mr Ó Cairealláin, led the huge crowds in chants of 'Free Palestine'. Advertisement Wearing sunglasses and a keffiyeh, Mr Ó Cairealláin said: 'For anybody going to Glastonbury, you can see us there at 4pm on the Saturday. 'If you can't be there we'll be on the BBC, if anybody watches the BBC. We'll be at Wembley in September. 'But most importantly: free, free Palestine.' Ó hAnnaidh was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing at the same court on August 20th. Advertisement

Sadeq Nikzad: Man jailed for raping 15-year-old after following her in Falkirk town centre

A man who raped a 15-year-old girl after following her in a busy town centre has been jailed for nine years. Sadeq Nikzad, an Afghan asylum seeker, preyed on the teenager after spotting her in Falkirk in October 2023. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service said the 29-year-old attempted to speak to the girl, repeatedly asking for her phone number and uttering sexual remarks. He then led her into a courtyard where he subjected her to a serious sexual assault. Detective Inspector Forbes Wilson, from the Forth Valley Public Protection Unit, said: "This was a particularly harrowing attack which was carried out during daylight in a busy town centre. "Nikzad's heinous actions had a profound effect on his young victim and I would like to commend her strength throughout this ordeal. "I would also like to thank local officers for their excellent work which ensured Nikzad was identified, arrested and off the street within a few short hours following the incident." Nikzad was in March found guilty of rape following a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh. At the High Court in Livingston on Wednesday, Judge John Morris KC said: "Mr Nikzad, whilst I appreciate that you do not accept you have done anything wrong, the fact remains that you have been convicted of an extremely serious sexual offence against a child." He added that "only a substantial custodial sentence" would be appropriate. Nikzad was handed a 12-year extended sentence, with nine years in prison and three years on licence once released back into the community. He was also placed on the sex offenders' register indefinitely and banned from contacting his victim. Katrina Parkes, procurator fiscal for high court sexual offences, said: "This was an appalling, opportunistic attack on a young girl who should have been safe going about her daily business. "The victim should be commended for reporting Sadeq Nikzad to the police, ensuring that he has now been held accountable while also protecting others from harm."
