Chilly weather springs back for Ontario's Father's Day weekend
After a brief taste of summer this week, the upcoming weekend will feature a return to spring-like weather, including a threat for rain.
However, Father's Day weekend will also include some sunshine and opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. For more details on what you can expect this weekend, please read on!

As we kick off the weekend on Friday, cooler weather will continue to spread across southern Ontario with temperatures more typical of early to mid-May, especially around the west end of Lake Ontario due to the east wind off the lake. However, summer weather won't be far away as southwestern Ontario will see temperatures in the mid 20s for one more day.
We will see a mix of sun and cloudy periods during Friday with a low risk for passing showers. However, during Friday afternoon and Friday night, there will be an increasing threat for showers across cottage country.
The rain should end early on Saturday across cottage country, then clouds will mix with sunny breaks.

Saturday will bring a mixture of clouds and sunny breaks. However, we will have brisk east wind off Lake Ontario and that will keep temperatures well below seasonal.
Sunday will be the best weather day of the weekend for outdoor activities. While we can't completely rule out a passing shower, most of southern Ontario will be dry with a mixture of sunshine and cloudy periods.

Temperatures will be noticeably warmer on Sunday - not hot, but cottage country will be near seasonal for mid June. Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler near the west end of Lake Ontario due to a light east wind off the lake, but it will still be a pleasant day.
The warming trend will continue into early next week, but the threat for passing showers and thunderstorms will return.

But after the social posts fade and the brunches wrap, reality resets. Moms often shoulder the mental load of an entire household like it's CrossFit for the soul: scheduling appointments, coordinating pickups, even (ahem) planning their own Mother's Day celebrations. The insight at the heart of the campaign rang true to hundreds of thousands of mothers (and fathers!) who hear "Mooooooom!" a million-ish times a day: Even in equitable, "50-50" parenting households, moms are often the default parent. Backed by a 2023 Syracuse University study that found schools contact moms first even when dads are listed equally on forms, 'DoorDad' flipped the script by acknowledging what Mom really needs is a break from the constant asks. So DoorDash put their money where its mouth is, moving beyond the clichés to actually help out-with flowers and a decision-free day. Note to Marketers: Not All Moms Are Happy on Mother's Day The success of 'DoorDad' points to a deeper cultural truth and an opportunity for brands. Why do we romanticize motherhood for one day a year, only to ignore the real, relentless labor moms carry the other 364? Why do we keep reinforcing rituals that literally do the least, while failing to challenge the systems that make motherhood feel unrelenting? (Of course it's also joyous and beautiful and grounding, but the reluctance to acknowledge the other side is a cycle that many moms, like me, want to stop!) Mother's Day is now a $35 billion industry, making it one of the most commercially important holidays of the year. And yet, the lived reality for many moms is still shaped by what sociologists call "the second shift"-the unpaid, unacknowledged, and uninterrupted work of caregiving that often falls mostly on their shoulders. This isn't just emotional, it's economic; according to McKinsey, if unpaid care work were accounted for, it would be worth $10 trillion globally. Father's Day, too, deserves a reckoning. For years, it's been a celebration of dad-joke mugs, BBQ aprons, and slapstick stereotypes. But what would it look like if brands treated Father's Day not as a punchline, but as a call to show up? What if it became a platform to recognize and expand modern fatherhood, to push past outdated tropes and into a more honest and equal future? There's early evidence that this evolution in parental appreciation day marketing is gaining momentum. Brands like Dove Men+Care have championed paternity leave and Indian detergent Ariel highlighted dads confronting patriarchy through hands-on parenting. Others, like DoorDash, have used humor to surface hard truths that ask dads to do more. These moments hint at a future where marketing isn't just reflective, but reformative. Brands make human truths visible. And they have the power to normalize a new kind of parental celebration-one where motherhood isn't synonymous with martyrdom and where fatherhood isn't defined by lawn care and grill tools. So as we cycle through another season of tributes and tie displays, let's ask better questions. Not, "What should we get Mom?" but, "Why is she still getting called first?" Not, "What makes a good dad?" but, "What does celebrating fatherhood look like beyond corny jokes?" Brands have the opportunity to ask these questions through marketing, starting with Father's Day, to paint a more aspirational vision of equitable parenting.

Father's Day weekend brings seasonable warmth, slight rain chances
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — The weather over Father's Day weekend should cooperate with any outdoor plans as warm temperatures persist and just a few showers are expected in Southwest Michigan. Showers are possible with the greatest chance for rain sticking south near I-94 during the afternoon. For Grand Rapids and points north, the coverage of the rain will be very limited. Inside Radar Temperatures will lift near 80 degrees under a mostly cloudy sky with occasional breaks of sun. It will be relatively comfortable with dewpoints in the 50s. Saturday morning brings a chance of more broken up showers mainly favored near I-94. Clouds in the morning will thin out during the afternoon as the chance of rain diminishes. Temperatures are on track to rise a notch higher into the lower 80s for most locations courtesy of the increased sunshine.
