Dwyane Wade shares why Rick Carlisle should get more recognition for the Pacers' success: "I give a lot of credit to the leader over there" originally appeared on Basketball Network.
Indiana Pacers All-Star guard Tyrese Haliburton has gotten most of the flowers for the team's success this season. And why not? Haliburton's four postseason game-winners - one in each series, have been instrumental in putting the Pacers where they are right now — up 1-0 in the 2025 NBA Finals.

However, as with any team, aside from having that leader on the basketball court, the leader on the sidelines is as essential. For the Pacers, that guy is the unassuming Rick Carlisle.
The 65-year-old is a former NBA player with 13 years of NBA head coaching experience. He may not have the resume of Gregg Popovich or Phil Jackson or the popularity of Erik Spoelstra or Steve Kerr, but he's under the radar one of the best bench tacticians out there today.
Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade agrees and thinks that the confidence and swagger the Pacers are playing with emanates from him.
"When you look at Rick Carlisle, that's what you see - a confident coach who seems in control most of the time," saidWade on his podcast. "Very rarely, he'll go off, but for the most part, he always seems in control most of it. And you're watching his team take on that identity, so I just feel like whatever that coaching staff has done for this team over the last few years, not just this year, the confidence that they pumped into them, what they've built amongst them as a group, you can see that. It's actually showing when these guys take the court."
Pacers are playing with the Devil's magic
The 2024-25 Pacers have earned the reputation as the "Devil's team" because experts and analysts have run out of words to describe the unbelievable comebacks they've produced this season. So, they've simply called it the "Devil's magic." But it's actually the product of the belief that Carlisle has instilled in his team over the last couple of years.

Indiana thrives on a fast-paced, pass-heavy offense built on constant movement. In Carlisle's system, there's no fixed first or last option — anyone can take the shot if they've got the best look. That approach makes every Pacer a legitimate scoring threat on any given night. The Championship coach got the entire roster to buy in, and now everyone's flourishing and, more importantly, Indiana's winning.
"I just want to give credit to the leader over there," added the Hall of Fame shooting guard. "Carlisle is somebody who, when you're trying to do something for the first time, obviously Siakam has won a championship but most of these guys are trying to do something for the first time, you've got to go with somebody who's been there. He's been everywhere. He's seen it all. Rick Carlisle's been around."

Carlisle has an impressive history
Saying Carlisle's "been around" barely scratches the surface. He suited up for the Boston Celtics and was part of their legendary 1986 championship squad loaded with five Hall of Famers. Years later, he served as an assistant under Larry Bird during Bird's coaching stint with the Pacers.

He posted back-to-back 50-win seasons in his first two years as head coach in Detroit. He built the Pistons' 2004 title team, and you could argue he would've led them to the 2004 title if he had not bumped heads with the ownership and had gotten fired. Finally, Carlisle won his first NBA championship with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011 at the expense of the Big 3 Miami Heat.
And yes, this is his second tour of duty with the Pacers. He coached them from 2003-04 to 2006-07, winning 61 games in his first year as head coach. Rick never made it past the ECF during his first tenure as Pacers head coach. He's done that in his third year back. And after they stole Game 1, the Pacers are three wins away from the first championship in franchise history. All said, there's no "devil's magic" here, just a very good coach with a hungry team.

Lakers' Rui Hachinura Turns Heads With NBA Offseason Move

Lakers' Rui Hachinura Turns Heads With NBA Offseason Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers leaned heavily on Rui Hachimura throughout the regular season, as he averaged 13.1 points and 5.0 rebounds per game, shooting 50.9% from the field over 68 appearances. Known for his efficient scoring and perimeter shooting ability, Hachimura emerged as a key starting player next to superstars LeBron James and Luka Doncic. Advertisement In the first round of the playoffs against Minnesota, Hachimura maintained his productivity, averaging 14.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, and one assist in 36.4 minutes per game across five contests. He delivered two standout 23-point performances in Games 4 and 5. However, the Lakers could not get past the Timberwolves, and now face questions in the NBA offseason. With the team exploring roster changes—particularly to add interior rebounding—the 6-foot‑8 forward's expiring contract makes him a trade candidate. Advertisement Amid this speculation, Hachimura shared an Instagram carousel documenting his time in Cuba, including a photo of him playing basketball with locals. The forward's offseason activity drew several fan reactions on social media. 'Rui everywhere,' one fan wrote. 'Damn Rui still looking for a center I see,' another fan posted. 'He can chill there until he learns how to rebound at 6'8,' a third fan added. 'Looking for a center huh,' another fan echoed. 'Cuba is amazing 🇨🇺 I love this place," said another. "Bro's making a world tour," said another. "HOPE YOUR HAVING THE BEST TIME THERE," a fan wrote in all caps. LeBron James Potentially Being Traded by Lakers Receives Clear Update

LeBron James Potentially Being Traded by Lakers Receives Clear Update originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the team's first-round playoff loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves, the Los Angeles Lakers once again have a major LeBron James decision looming this summer. Advertisement Last year, the Akron native signed a two-year, $101.4 million deal to remain in Los Angeles. However, the second year of his contract has a $52.6 million player option that he must make a decision on this season. Recently, The Athletic's Jovan Buha provided a major update regarding James' future with the Lakers, including a clear update on a potential trade if he were to opt in and remain with the team past this summer. Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James (23).Jayne Kamin-Oncea-Imagn Images On June 9, Buha held a Lakers Q&A, where he discussed potential trade candidates for the team (YouTube link). In the livestream, Buha said that Luka Doncic is the only player the Lakers consider untouchable, leading to some speculation about what that could mean for James. However, Buha provided clarity that changes the outlook of any rumors. Advertisement Buha recently took to X to make it clear that, if James does opt in to his Lakers contract, he will have a no-trade clause and is also untouchable in trade discussions for the team. "LeBron has a no-trade clause, so I didn't think I had to mention him, but he's untouchable too," Buha wrote on X. James is fresh off his 22nd season in the NBA and his seventh with the Lakers. Despite the team's early playoff exit, the four-time MVP has shown few signs of slowing down. In the regular season, he averaged 24.4 points, 7.8 rebounds, 8.2 assists, and 1 steal per game while shooting 51.3% from the field. Advertisement Though it seems clear that his NBA career is coming to an end, James is continuing to prove he still has a lot left in the tank. He remains one of the most valuable players in the league, and he is crucial to the Lakers' success. Until his future plans become official, he will be a player worth monitoring throughout the offseason. Andrew Wiggins to Lakers Trade Report Surfaces After Rui Hachimura News

Andrew Wiggins to Lakers Trade Report Surfaces After Rui Hachimura News originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers entered the 2024-25 postseason with heightened expectations, following the acquisition of Luka Doncic, who formed a formidable superstar duo with LeBron James. However, LA failed to live up to its 50-win regular season finish, exiting the playoffs in the first round at the hands of the Minnesota Timberwolves. Advertisement The loss has brought about a pressing need for roster reinvention ahead of next season. With a high-scoring offense failing to translate into postseason success, calls have grown for the team to acquire players capable of elevating their playoff performance. Recently, ESPN's Bobby Marks highlighted Rui Hachimura's expiring $18.3 million contract as one LA has to take advantage of when pursuing roster upgrades. Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young and Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins (22).Dale Zanine-Imagn Images Just over one week after this report about Hachimura's uncertain Lakers future, Jovan Buha of The Athletic highlighted Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins as a realistic trade fit for LA. Buha described a scenario that would involve sending Hachimura to Miami in exchange. Advertisement 'I like that trade,' Buha said of a hypothetical deal that would send Lakers forward Rui Hachimura to the Heat for Wiggins. 'I know Wiggins has been a popular guy for Lakers Twitter. He is someone that — I think among the realistic options — he is someone that would check a lot of boxes for the Lakers.' Wiggins brings a compelling pedigree: an NBA champion with Golden State and an All-Star appearance in 2022. The former No. 1 overall pick, who was traded to the Heat from Golden State in February, averaged 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.6 assists per game during the 2024-25 season, shooting 44.8% from the field and 37.4% from three. However, trading for Wiggins presents complexities, starting with financial implications: he carries a $28.2 million cap hit next season, with a player option in 2026‑27 potentially making him a free agent in two years. Advertisement If executed, such a trade would provide LA with a wing who offers solid perimeter defense, athletic scoring, and postseason experience—traits that align with the team's priority to assemble a more balanced, playoff-ready roster heading into 2025‑26.
