HC asks CG govt to file reply on plea seeking implementation of EWS quota
Raipur: The Chhattisgarh High Court directed the state govt to file a reply within four weeks to a petition seeking the implementation of the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) reservation in govt services in the state.
The petitioner was asked to submit a rejoinder within two weeks thereafter.
Petitioner Pushparaj Singh and others filed a writ petition through counsel Yogesh Chandra, stating that while other states implemented a 10 per cent reservation for the EWS general category in public employment, Chhattisgarh is yet to do so, despite the Chhattisgarh Public Service Ordinance, 2019, already being in effect.
Justice Amitesh Kishore Prasad's single bench heard the matter.
The court was informed that Articles 15 and 16 of the Constitution of India were amended on 12 Jan 2019, empowering states to provide a 10 per cent reservation to the EWS category. The Union of India implemented this 10 per cent EWS reservation on 19 Jan 2019. Subsequently, Section 4 of the ordinance and Public Service Amendment Ordinance issued by the Chhattisgarh govt on 4 Sept 2019 proposed a 10 per cent reservation for the economically weaker sections.

The petitioners also submitted a representation in this regard on 29 April 2024.
During the hearing, the counsel argued that based on the constitutional amendment, which empowers state govts to provide EWS reservation, it was implemented in other Indian states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Individuals belonging to the EWS category are entitled to a maximum of 10 per cent reservation in public employment as per the constitutional amendment. After arguments, the High Court directed the state govt to file its reply within four weeks, following which the petitioner will have two weeks to submit a rejoinder. The next hearing will be scheduled after this.
The petitioners' counsel Yogesh Chandra informed a media outlet that the HC ordered the state govt to file its response by 28 March 2025, and four weeks have since passed. The state govt is yet to file its reply, the counsel said.

1 2 Ajmer: The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) Friday said that it has filed a criminal complaint against 14 candidates between Nov 2024 and Jan 2025 for filing frivolous applications for the post of assistant professor in Sanskrit college education exam. The commission filed the complaints at the additional chief magistrate of Ajmer under Section 217 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Jaswant Garasiya of Banswara is a Bachelor of Arts (BA), but he filed an application for the assistant director (Science and IT department) exam 2024, even though the essential qualification for this exam was a first-class degree in natural and agricultural science or a first-class Master's degree in engineering or technology, or a first-class MSc or MTech with a graduate degree in science and engineering, along with two years of specialised experience in IT and science technology organisation. Garasiya also filed an application for assistant testing officer and junior chemist exam of the RPSC. RPSC secretary Ramniwas Mehta said, "I spoke to the candidate on phone regarding the filing of the application, and he admitted that he is a BA pass, but he could not answer why he filed such applications." Mehta said, "Therefore, we have given a chance to such candidates to withdraw their applications by June 9 in 10 different types of exams which RPSC is going to conduct."
