You can battle the infamous Bowser with general park admission, but you'll need a $40 NFC-infused slap bracelet to fight his son.
Universal's Epic Universe theme park in Orlando, Florida. uses tech to create extra levels of immersion in theme parks. Guests feel like they're the main character in different lands. But going deeper in a story can cost more, as with the Power-Up Bands of Super Nintendo World. They keep score and unlock new levels, but they aren't included in the price of entry.
Over at a new Harry Potter land, set in 1920s Paris, wands starting at $65 can perform new tricks and cause a stir with improvisational actors walking around. More advanced wands can track your progress on an app and reveal new secrets in alleyways.
I visited Epic Universe during its grand opening in May to learn more about how the tech works and talk to the teams behind the design of this next evolution in theme park design, which you can watch in the video embedded above. I was on a quest to find out if it really is worth the extra cost for these accessories, and certainly some reveals are more rewarding than others.
These theme parks are becoming a living video game of sorts as you go on side quests, talking to characters in the land and trying to find new hallways and sensors to activate. A lot can be done in the parks without these gadgets, but if you have time to explore (and a spirit of role play and patience to try a few times), tech really does take immersion to another level.
And thankfully, you don't need to pull out your phone to start unlocking the extras (but you can if you want to). Perhaps we're more programmed to just jump in and understand the tech without thinking about the tech when we're exposed to video games and virtual entertainment in the real world. When I eventually do take my kids to see this place, I feel like I would be missing out without getting a band or wand -- but not everyone in your party will necessarily need one to get a kick out of it.

Harry Potter actor talks about shooting DC superhero show in Savannah
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — Actor Freddie Stroma's latest role as the unhinged superhero Vigilante in HBO's Peacemaker may not get him recognized on the street much. That's because his costume covers his face for much of his screentime. But once the mask comes off, you may remember him as Cormac McLaggen in the Harry Potter movies or Luke in Pitch Perfect. Stroma was in town for Epic Cons: Savannah Friday to meet and greet fans. But it wasn't his first visit to the Hostess City. Back in November, the cast of Peacemaker was in the Coastal Empire to shoot part of season 2. Star John Cena was spotted at Leopold's Ice cream and director James Gunn stopped by Odin & Sons Comics and Collectibles. When WSAV News 3 caught up with Stroma at Epic Cons: Savannah, we asked him if he was part of the Savannah production. 'I wasn't filming myself, but I came down anyway. It was amazing. I don't think I can say much,but we had a really good time. I think James [Gunn] is quoted as saying it was the best day of filming he's ever had. I had a great time just checking out Savannah. It's beautiful.' Star of Gilmore Girls reminisces about playing baseball in Savannah And while he spoke to WSAV, Stroma said Gunn shot some of the new Superman movie in Savannah as well. WSAV News 3 asked the Savannah Film Commission to confirm, and they told us that some pickup shots for the movie were done here but it's uncertain whether any of them will be in the final cut. Let WSAV know if you see any Savannah shots when the movie premiers on July 11! Stroma wasn't able to divulge any secrets from season 2 of Peacemaker either. We Know When Wicked For Good's Trailer Will Be Debuting, But There's A Bit Of A Catch

Chu's Wicked: For Good is a 'hotly anticipated' entry on the 2025 movie schedule. Anyone having doubts about my prediction could easily point to the fact that despite Universal's 2025 CinemaCon panel showing off some footage of the picture, fans haven't had the chance to gaze upon a trailer for the conclusion of this Oz-ified musical story yet. Well, I've got some good news and some news you might not be too pleased with, as you'll be able to see Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande in full regalia real soon. However, it sounds like there's only one way you'll be able to get back to Oz for For Good's first trailer, and you'll have to click more than your heels. First, here's the good news: per a press release from Universal Pictures, the release of Wicked: For Good's first trailer is set to take place on June 4th! In fact, the event is being billed as something truly 'global,' as it's going to take place 'simultaneously in all North American time zones.' And that's where the catch comes in, as it sounds like you'll only be able to see this sizzle reel in theaters. But at least it's attached to special bring-back screenings of Wicked, which you can currently purchase tickets for. So it's not like you're showing up for a preview and then dipping to go back to lawn work. Now, I'm sure there are plenty of people who aren't afraid to return to a theater near them to see For Good's first trailer and laugh, cry, and potentially sing along with this meteoric box office hit of 2024. However, one has to wonder how many of those fans are ready to follow through with that desire, especially on a random Wednesday. Peacock TV: from $7.99 a month/$79.99 a yearAll it takes is $7.99 a month to jump into the basic plan for Peacock TV. But with that investment, you not only get to stream Wicked, but you'll also find the documentary Defying Gravity: The Curtain Rises on Wicked. And with a special live musical event heading to NBC and Peacock this fall, you may want to keep that subscription active and enjoy everything the streaming home of NBC, Universal, and Bravo has to offer! View Deal While I'm someone who always advocates for the theatrical experience, especially when revisiting old favorites, I'd be foolish not to mention that a Peacock subscription could very easily scratch this itch for some, and right at this very moment. However, it would seem that Universal has some surprises in store for those who do choose to fly into the western sky once more to see Wicked and its sequel's trailer in theaters. So if you do go to this Wicked screening on June 4th, there's apparently going to be exclusive 'giveaways' for attendees. While that's a rather vague promise, what's for certain is that you'll be able to land yourself a commemorative poster for Wicked: For Good. And it I had to guess, it'll be a print of the image you see below: Don't take this the wrong way, but I can practically hear fans weeping over the mere invocation of that title, and the image of Elphaba and Glinda separated by a wide chasm that leads down the Yellow Brick Road. I mean, this is everything you would want out of a teaser poster - and it looks pretty spectacular. Though I'm not a die-hard obsessive over Wicked, I did really enjoy the first half of Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande's journey. And while this isn't a $16K charity performance with Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth, I'm inclined to check this out for myself. Provided, of course, that this announcement hasn't led to another case similar to how Sinners' second IMAX 70mm run instantly sold out. So if you're rejoicifying that Wicked will be back in theaters AND you'll get to see the first trailer for its sequel during this special screening, go grab your tickets now! And don't forget that Wicked: For Good is set to hit theaters on November 21st; which may lead to some unsurprising double feature events. At least, one could only hope.

WBD Shareholders Nix David Zaslav's 2024 Pay Package In Non-Binding Vote
Shareholders at Warner Bros. Discovery gave a thumbs down to the company's executive compensation for 2024 — multi-million dollar paydays led by CEO David Zaslav's $51.9 million package. The vote, informally called say-on-pay, is required at publicly traded companies but nonetheless non-binding. Boards of directors insist that they take the votes to heart and if there's dissent engage seriously with their biggest shareholders, and that is sometimes the case. At Warner Bros. Discovery, however, Zaslav's pay has been in the spotlight for years, including on the picket lines during the recent Hollywood strikes. The general rule of thumb is that support less than 70% is notable. Waner Bros. Discovery stock has floundered since the merger three years ago, which burdened the company with debt. Credit ratings agency S&P last month downgraded it to junk status citing 'weak credit metrics.' It's not just that. Pay experts noted that members of the board's compensation committee decided to adjust the metrics they themselves set in order to pay the chief executive more. Public companies report the pay of their top five highest paid executive officers in annual proxy statements filed with the SEC each spring for the previous year (if they operate on a calendar year). Pay is one of a handful of items along with the election of directors and shareholder resolutions that stockholders vote on at annual meetings. Leading proxy advisory firm Institutional Shareholder Services, which puts out highly reseached reports each year ahead of annual meetings to guide shareholders, recommended voting against WBD's executive pay and said the 'compensation committee demonstrated only limited responsiveness to shareholder concerns following consecutive years of low say-on-pay support.' In a statement today, Warner Bros. Discovery's Board of Directors said it 'appreciates the views of all its shareholders and takes the results of the annual advisory vote on executive compensation seriously. The Compensation Committee of the Board looks forward to continuing its regular practice of engaging in constructive dialogue with our shareholders.'
