Iran says U.S. travel ban shows 'deep hostility' for Iranians, Muslims
Iran on Saturday (June 7, 2025) blasted U.S. President Donald Trump's travel ban on countries including the Islamic Republic, saying it showed "deep hostility" toward Iranians and Muslims.
"The decision to ban the entry of Iranian nationals - merely due to their religion and nationality - not only indicates the deep hostility of American decision-makers towards the Iranian people and Muslims but also violates... international law," a senior Foreign Ministry official said in a ministry statement posted on the X social media platform.

Mr. Trump's proclamation on Wednesday will bar citizens from 12 countries starting on Monday at 12:01 a.m. EDT (0401 GMT).
The countries are Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo Republic, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
The ban, which Mr. Trump said was necessary to protect against "foreign terrorists", was reminiscent of a similar move he implemented during his first term in office from 2017 to 2021, when he barred travellers from seven Muslim-majority nations.

Ukraine said its air defenses shot down and neutralised 87 drones and seven missiles launched by Russia. Ihor Terekhov, the Mayor of Kharkiv, said at least three people were killed and 17 others, including two children, were wounded as Russia launched its 'most powerful' attack on the northeastern city, since the Russia-Ukraine war erupted in early 2022. Terekhov said that 48 Iranian-made drones, two missiles and four guided bombs were fired before dawn at the city of 1.4 million people, located just 50km from the Russian border, the report said. According to the Al Jazeera report, the Russian onslaught caused heavy damage to residential buildings and civilian infrastructure as air raid sirens blared across Kharkiv till late Saturday morning. On Thursday, the city was struck by a Russia missile that wounded 18 people, including four children, the report said. Ukraine shoots down Su-35 fighter jet Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Air Force has claimed to have shot down a Russian Sukhoi Su-35 fighter jet during an operation in Kursk, Reuters reported. 'This morning, on June 7, 2025, as a result of a successful Air Force operation in the Kursk direction, a Russian Su-35 fighter jet was shot down,' Ukrainian military wrote on Telegram. Notably, Russia has offered the Su-35 fighter jet to India, and agreed to build the 4.5-generation air-superiority fighter in India, along with transfer of technology. India has not issued any official response to the Russian offer. The escalation in the Russia-Ukraine war was triggered by last week's large scale drone attack by Ukrainian security agency, the SBU, that targeted more than 40 Russian military aircraft, and reportedly damaged or destroyed tens of Tu-95 and Tu-22 strategic bombers, that have widely used by Russia to fire long-range missiles at Ukraine.

Muslims share meat and groceries with poor in Tirunelveli district
Muslims sacrificed sheep and bulls and shared the meat and essential commodities with the poor after offering special prayers as part of Bakrid celebrations held in various parts of the district on Saturday. The Tamil Nadu Thowheedh Jamaath organised Bakrid prayers at Eidgah Grounds in Melapalayam in which thousands of Muslims participated. State administrative committee chairman of TNTJ M. Shamsul Luha Rahmani, who delivered the Bakrid message, appealed to the Muslims to be instrumental in the development of society with their resources by sharing them with the needy. 'The life of every Muslim should be an example to others as our sacrifices should nurture the life of the poor, who need not be our relatives or even Muslims. We, with our knowledge and by sharing what we have in excess, should elevate others' lives,' Mr. Luha said. Thousands of Muslims participated in the Bakrid prayers conducted at Madina School grounds by the Social Democratic Party of India and Masjid Huda mosque. Leading the prayers, Shahul Hameed Usmani of Masjid Jhuda mosque said their lives should be dedicated for fostering love, social harmony, democracy and peace everywhere while strive hard for uplifting the oppressed and the poor. SDPI State president Nellai Mubarak and party office-bearers S.S.A. Ghani, Saleem Dheen and others participated in the prayers On behalf of Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, the Bakrid prayers were organised at Melapalayam Bazaar Grounds in which a few thousand Muslims participated and greeted each other. TMMK's chief executive committee member D. Mohamed Hussein led the prayers in which party office-bearers K.S. Rasool Maideen, Golden Khaja and others participated. Bakrid prayers were also organised at Pettai, Burkitmanagar, Palayamkottai, Ambasamudram, Kallidaikurichi, Maanur, Ervadi and other areas. In Tenkasi district, Bakrid celebrations were organised at Tenkasi, Kadayanallur, Shencottai, Puliyangudi, Sankarankovil and other areas. In all the places, Muslims sacrificed sheep and bulls and shared the meat and grocery items with the poor.
