Biz Bahrain07-04-2025

AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation (MKF) has announced the opening of applications for Nahj scholarship, an initiative aimed at supporting and nurturing outstanding local talent in the fields of sports and the arts. The scholarship is available to gifted students specializing in arts or sports at the University of Bahrain or Bahrain Polytechnic, with applications open from 13 to 22 April. Nahj scholarship covers university tuition fees and book costs while also providing financial incentives based on students' academic performance. Additionally, it offers developmental workshops and training programmes designed to enhance students' skills. Recipients will also benefit from high-quality training opportunities within both the public and private sectors, as well as engage in voluntary work that contributes to the community. This initiative serves as a gateway for talented individuals to pursue their ambitions in the fields of arts or sports, encouraging local creativity and granting real opportunities for academic and professional growth. As part of continuous efforts to develop students' abilities, each recipient will be assigned more than one mentor. Nahj scholarship includes regular review meetings to assess artistic works and provide recommendations to refine students' talents. Additionally, scholarship recipient will participate in dedicated workshops and specialized classes to further develop their artistic skills, with opportunities to work on projects or exhibitions under the supervision of mentors. Commenting on the occasion, Her Highness Shaikha Zain bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation and founder of MKF Connect, expressed her great pleasure in opening the application process for Nahj scholarship under Rayaat Scholarship Program. She emphasized that the increasing number of Bahraini students pursuing higher education signals a promising future generation that is well-educated and socially aware. Her Highness reiterated that AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation is committed to supporting students, ensuring their personal and professional development, and empowering them to contribute meaningfully to the nation's progress. AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation invites all eligible students to apply for Nahj scholarship through the foundation's official website. The selection process will include evaluating applicants based on their academic performance, test scores, successful completion of a personal interview, fulfilment of required voluntary work and demonstrated talent in sports or the arts.
Earlier this year, Nahj initiative showcased a collection of unique local artwork and rare sports memorabilia, from the 26th Arabian Gulf Cup 'Khaleeji 26,' which was donated by the national football team players. These items were auctioned through Mazad, an innovative auction platform, with proceeds dedicated to empowering young athletes and artists in
achieving their academic and professional aspirations. The initiative provided scholarships under Rayaat Scholarship Program in collaboration with AlMabarrah AlKhalifia Foundation.
Rayaat Scholarship Program was launched in 2011 as a comprehensive initiative aimed at supporting education and personal development for Bahraini youth. The program provides scholarships for students to enroll in accredited universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, in addition to offering various benefits such as financial incentives, workshops, and training opportunities in both the public and private sectors.

Shura reviews 30-day grace period for work permit renewals

A 30-day window to renew expat work permits and a cap on how many can be issued has been proposed during a review by the Shura Council's Services Committee. The committee, chaired by Dr Jameela Mohamed Redha Al Salman, met yesterday to discuss two amendments to Bahrain's 2006 law on labour market regulation. Present at the meeting were Labour Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) Chief Executive Nibras Mohamed Talib and Labour Ministry Labour Relations Director Mai Hassan Al Asmi, along with senior staff from both bodies. One proposal seeks to give employers an extra month to renew work permits without facing penalties. As things stand, failure to renew on time means sanctions under Article 36 of the law. The second proposal calls for the national labour market plan to set a fixed upper limit on the number of permits granted by the LMRA. Current wording leaves that decision open-ended. Also on the table was a draft law to regulate artistic professions. The proposal, submitted by members Nancy Deena Elly Khedouri, Dalal Al Zayed, Khalid Al Maskati, Redha Faraj and Dr Mohamed Al Khozaie, would require anyone working in the arts to obtain a licence from the minister. The draft sets out a plan to issue professional cards to Bahraini artists, giving them access to certain benefits. It also includes the creation of a fund to support artistic work and provide backing for artists in the country. The draft further calls for stronger legal cover for those working in the arts, aiming to treat the field as a recognised line of work. It includes provisions for financial and social backing for Bahraini artists and refers to the arts as part of Bahrain's cultural identity.
