Miami man, 65, killed in crash believed caused by medical episode south of Naples
A 65-year-old Miami man died in an Alligator Alley crash Monday. Authorities are not ruling out it could have been caused by a medical episode.
The wreck happened just after 7:15 a.m. Monday along Alligator Alley, at the 97-mile marker, south of Naples, according to a Florida Highway Patrol incident report.
Troopers were dispatched Monday morning to the scene of the single-vehicle crash of a Toyota Corolla.
In the crash, troopers said, a Toyota Corolla traveled off the road, possibly caused by a medical episode. After the car veered off the road, it entered the median and collided with a dirt pile related to a construction site.

North Fort Myers man faces vehicular homicide charges in crash that left one dead
A North Fort Myers man faces vehicle homicide charges after authorities say he raced another vehicle, weaving through traffic, which led to the other driver's death. Dillon Glenn Sandy, 21, faces one count of vehicular homicide. Sandy's court case file, which would include the arrest affidavit with the victim's identity, was not available by publication. Around 1:45 p.m. April 18, Florida Highway Patrol troopers responded to a fatal traffic crash on northbound Interstate 75, on the Daniels Parkway Overpass, at mile marker 131. Fatal crash arrests: Second driver arrested in Pennsylvania in Cape Coral 125-mph crash that killed motorist A Hyundai Sonata driven by Sandy and a Nissan Maxima, driven by the victim, a 24-year-old Lehigh Acres man, were traveling north on I-75, at high speed, approaching slower traffic, when Sandy's car entered the right lane to pass the slower traffic, while the victim's car entered the left lane to pass the slower traffic. Troopers said both vehicles then attempted to change back onto the center lane. In doing so, troopers said, the left side of Sandy's car collided with the right side of the victim's car. After the collision, both cars collided with the concrete barrier wall. The victim's car overturned, ejecting the driver. Sandy then collided with the ejected driver, who died on scene. Sandy and a 23-year-old North Fort Myers man traveling with him suffered injuries and were taken to Gulf Coast Medical Center, in Fort Myers. Troopers said that on June 5, after an exhaustive criminal investigation, they arrested Sandy. Sandy remained in custody by publication on $50,000 bond. His arraignment is July 7. 'Dangerous drink-driver' who killed woman jailed
A "dangerous drink-driver" who killed a woman and seriously injured another has been jailed for nine years and three months. Hertfordshire Police said Razvan Balasoiu, 26, was under the influence of alcohol when his BMW ploughed into a Toyota Corolla on the A602 between Stevenage and Hitchin. The Toyota's driver, a woman in her 50s, died at the scene, while a woman in a third car was seriously injured. Balasoiu, from London, previously pleaded guilty at St Albans Crown Court to causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving. The incident happened "in wet conditions" on 12 November 2023 at about 18:45 GMT. Police said Balasoiu failed to notice the road changing from a dual carriageway into a single-lane road and struck a silver Toyota Corolla travelling in the same direction. The force with which his vehicle, a black BMW 316i, struck the Corolla, caused it to spin out of control onto the opposite carriageway, where it hit a Hyundai IX35. The Hyundai's driver, a woman in her 60s, spent several months in hospital and police said she was "still recovering from the horrific life-changing injuries". Balasoiu was arrested at the scene and failed to provide a breath test at the roadside, only agreeing to a blood test hours after the collision, police said. Det Con Felicity Walker said it was "a tragic case". "As a direct result of Balasoiu's driving, which was at speed, in wet conditions, under the influence of alcohol, three families have been affected. "Drink drive and speeding are two of the fatal four, and we will never tolerate such reckless behaviour on our roads." Balasoiu was sentenced on Thursday. He will also be banned from driving for five years once he is released from prison. Follow Beds, Herts and Bucks news on BBC Sounds, Facebook, Instagram and X.
