Postecoglou and players 'proved the doubters wrong'
Tottenham's critics "can say whatever you want" but Ange Postecoglou and his players "proved them wrong", says defender Micky Van de Ven.Postecoglou's early-season declaration that he "always wins things" in his second year at clubs has been frequently scrutinised but Spurs ended their 17-year wait for a trophy by beating Manchester United in Wednesday's Europa League final."The gaffer said this and I think he proved he's done it," Van de Ven pointed out."He won again something in his second year and everyone who was doubting him, everybody that was doubting us, we all proved them wrong this year."Of course it was a really tough season. In the league we didn't perform well, it was really poor from us. I can't say anything else but that, but in Europe we did so well."To be honest I'm really happy he said he always wins something in his second year. We made sure he can keep saying this. We're happy for him and happy for the team."Probably (critics) will continue but I don't care anymore. We proved them wrong. We won a trophy so they can say whatever they want."We're here, we're lifting a trophy and have made some history, so of course that's an unbelievable feeling."While Postecoglou's future remains uncertain, Van de Ven backed the club to push for more success."Of course we want to build on it," Van de Ven insisted."Every time we played in Europe, we showed our quality, we showed how we can play."The gaffer had a big role in this. He kept believing in us, the whole staff kept believing in us. He just made sure we stayed together and as a group we stayed together."We kept believing that we could create history with this group and we did it."

Sky Sports commentator asks ‘how quickly can MBEs be taken away?' after Luke Littler's World Cup of Darts humiliation
SKY SPORTS commentator Wayne Mardle stuck the boot into Luke Littler and Luke Humphries during their World Cup of Darts mauling. England stars Littler and Humphries - who both became MBEs on Friday - were humiliated 8-4 by Germany in Frankfurt. 3 3 3 With the score at 7-2 to the Germans, Mardle joked: "How quickly can MBEs be taken away?" Mardle also reckons Littler and Humphries 'buckled' under the pressure as England were sent crashing out. The tournament favourites were stunned by a brilliant Martin Schindler and Ricardo Pietreczko at the last 16. The German duo were simply superb as they nailed eight of 13 doubles and smashed two stellar ton plus checkouts. World No.1 Humphries and Littler hit just 36 percent of their doubles and never found any rhythm. Former world championship semi-finalist Mardle suggested the lethal Lukes crumbled under the weight of expectation. He said: 'Luke and Luke were no doubt feeling the stresses and strains of being favourites — like massive favourites. 'To go on about how good Phil Taylor and Adrian Lewis were — they made it look easy. 'That is how difficult World Cup pairings can be. 'Pressure got to them at some point, Luke and Luke. They buckled — and their opponents didn't.' Mardle praised Germany's composed and confident performance from the very first dart. He added: 'Full credit to Martin and Ricardo there. 'It was just very good from Germany from leg one. When they had their chances, they took them. 'The Germans had much better finishing at the right time. It was just a really good performance. 'Ricardo and Martin showed they can do it against the two best players in the world. 'England were outplayed. It was very efficient from Germany.'

Kieran Trippier's estranged wife Charlotte 'consults lawyers' over marriage after England star seen with arm around mystery woman in Ibiza
England football star Kieran Trippier 's estranged wife is consulting lawyers after he was pictured with his arm around another woman in Ibiza, it has been claimed. The Newcastle United defender, 34, was seen mingling at the Spanish island resort - fuelling further speculation about his split from wife of nine years Charlotte. Trippier, who played 54 times for the Three Lions and whose previous clubs include Tottenham Hotspur and Atletico Madrid, has a son and two daughters with Charlotte. The new reports of his socialising, after he helped his current club finish fifth in the Premier League this now-ended season, suggest he partied with two blonde women on separate nights - one in Newcastle, the other in Ibiza. Charlotte thanked online someone who sent a video of Trippier leaving a Newcastle nightclub on May 11 with one of the unnamed woman. Mrs Trippier, 35, wrote: 'Love a girls' girl. Thanks babe.' Now she is pondering potential legal action over their union, the Sun reported. A source was quoted as saying: 'Charlotte has taken legal advice over her marriage. 'She has got a new house, is settled, is moving on and wants to sort it amicably and be quite mature. She feels happier away from him.' That same source also described Trippier as 'devastated' by developments. They added: 'He has been desperately trying to get back with her but she's over him.' Trippier, thought to earn an estimated £130,000 per week, was reportedly spotted among revellers at Wafi Lounge in Newcastle - with a fellow guest filming on a mobile phone before contacting Mrs Trippier on Instagram with an alert. She posted: 'Hi, Kieran was out with some blonde t**t last night in Wafi Lounge. Just to let u know I have a pic lol.' Trippier's wife replied by saying, 'Thanks girl. U got the pic?', and was sent a screengrab of a video - appearing to show Trippier in a white T-shirt and sunglasses, alongside an unidentified woman. Charlotte responded with her 'Love a girls' girl. Thanks babe' comment, before giving a heart emoji to the correspondent's reply of 'Hope you're okay'. The woman taking the video later told the Sun On Sunday: 'I got in touch with her because, if a boyfriend or husband of mine was around town with another woman, I'd want to know.' Trippier has since been photographed with his arm around a woman in a straw hat at Ushuaia nightclub in Ibiza on Friday last week, the newspaper reported. The sportsman announced his retirement from international football in August last year - with MailOnline revealing how he wanted to to focus on life outside the game following his marriage breakdown. Speculation over the status of their marriage mounted last summer when Charlotte appeared to air her struggles during the European Championship in Germany, when Kieran was part of the England squad that finished runners-up to Spain. She uploaded a series of photos on Instagram for a break she enjoyed on the Greek island of Santorini following the tournament - while her husband was seen on a post-Euros trip to Turkey with friends. Those separate holidays came after she had shared a cryptic message on social media just hours ahead of England's first round group game against Slovenia. The mother-of-three posted: 'Sooner or later you get over the s*** you swore you'd never get over and it's the best feeling in the world.' The Mail revealed at the time how friends of Kieran were furious at her decision to share the post - which she then swiftly deleted - especially on such a highly-scrutinised day for the England side. Charlotte has often seen cheering her husband on from the stands in the past but was absent from Three Lions matches during Euro 2024. Charlotte provided an insight into their troubles when she took to Instagram just 48 hours before England's final group game against Slovenia last June and posted a cryptic message A source said last summer: 'It's been known for some time that things are not good between them. They've had a number of issues and have been trying to resolve them but it's proving to be quite a challenge. 'Charlotte has stayed in England with their children during the Euros, unlike the other WAGs who have all been flying to Germany for the games. It will be interesting to see what happens between them once the Euros are over.' Charlotte previously described herself on her Instagram page as 'married' and listed her interests as 'Family. Fashion. Travel' - but her profile now states: 'Mummy of 3. Keeping it simple and keeping it REAL. Life is too short to be anything but HAPPY. Make that change, life WILL get BETTER.'

Paul Scholes dubbed Soccer Aid rival 'moody' and 'lunatic' who he avoided
Paul Scholes is one of many Manchester United legends playing at Old Trafford on Sunday evening for Soccer Aid 2025, and he's already made his feelings clear on one rival who he will face off against Paul Scholes branded former Manchester United team-mate Nemanja Vidic a "lunatic" as he prepares to face him at Soccer Aid. The pair of Red Devils legends are among a number of famous faces from the Sir Alex Ferguson era who will return to Old Trafford on Sunday evening to raise money for Unicef through a friendly kickabout. And while Scholes and Vidic worked brilliantly alongside one another during their Premier League glory days, they will be playing for separate teams at Soccer Aid. Scholes is representing England with Wayne Rooney, Michael Carrick and Gary Neville, while Vidic will play for the World XI with the likes of John O'Shea, Carlos Tevez and Edwin van der Sar. Despite coming across as a fun-filled spectacle between former players and celebrities, Scholes may head into the fray a little anxious if his past comments on Vidic are anything to go by. That's because the Serbian national was one of the many hard-men in Manchester United's ranks during his playing days. Speaking to the UTD podcast about what Vidic was like as a team-mate, the 50-year-old said: "I was fairly good at tackling. It was all calculated. I was just getting people back. That's all I was doing. "I never instigated. If someone got me, there's a chance I'd get them back. Vida [Vidic] had some tackles in the box, he could be a lunatic." He added: "He didn't play as a centre half in five-a-side. He was one of those defenders that thought he could play a bit as a No. 10. You know what I mean? "When you get to a five-a-side a he does anything but play in his position, 'Give it to me' all that stuff. But when it came to a game he would head and kick everything. "In training he could be a bit moody and a nuisance in the box especially but a great centre half. He was perfect for English football. He could head the ball, tackle, he was great, a really good player." After forming a formidable partnership with Rio Ferdinand quickly after arriving at Old Trafford in 2006, Vidic made 300 appearances for the Red Devils. He lifted five Premier League titles, three League Cups and a Champions League. Vidic left United in 2014 to play for Inter Milan, before calling time on an illustrious career in January 2016. Scholes, meanwhile, spent the entirety of his professional footballing career with United, racking up 155 goals and 82 assists from 716 games primarily as a central-midfielder. Alongside Vidic, he is part of a wealth of household names who will play at Soccer Aid on Sunday from content creators like Morgan Burtwhistle (AKA AngryGinge) to fellow athletes like Sir Mo Farah and Tony Bellew. Football fans can catch all of the action live on ITV1 and ITVX from 6pm onwards. Kick-off is slated for 7:30pm.
