Mediator between bank agents, Hagawane held in vehicle case
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for allegedly acting as a middleman between Shashank Hagawane and three bank recovery agents to release a seized heavy machine. The accused, Pranay Tukaram Sathe of Kothrud, who works as a bank recovery agent, was arrested at around 2:50 pm on Friday. In this case, Shashank Hagavane, his mother and Sathe were remanded to police custody till June 7.
Shivaji Pawar, DCP Zone-III, said, 'The accused was mediator between unauthorised bank recovery agents and Shashank Hagawane. Hagawane had sent ₹30,000 to Sathe through his driver Devanand Koli via GPay. Later, Sathe paid that amount to the arrested accused Ganesh Potale via the same mode.'
Mahalunge MIDC Police on Thursday arrested three recovery agents of IndusInd Bank, Yogesh Raskar, Ganesh Potale, and Vaibhav Pingle, for allegedly seizing a JCB machine without authorisation. The machine, owned by Prashant Yelwande, was reportedly handed over to Shashank. According to the police, the bank's legal manager confirmed that no instructions had been issued to the recovery agency regarding the seizure. Despite this, the trio proceeded with the action, leading to their arrest.
Yelwande, who lodged the FIR, alleged that Lata and Shashank Hagawane purchased JCB machines worth ₹24 lakh from him, paying an advance of ₹5 lakh. However, it was later discovered that the machines carried outstanding EMIs totalling ₹19 lakh with IndusInd Bank, which the Hagawanes had agreed to repay at ₹50,000 per month.
According to the complaint, due to non-payment, the bank seized the machines in 2024, leaving Yelwande without either the equipment or the remaining payment. When Yelwande demanded his money back, he was allegedly threatened at gunpoint by the Hagawane family.
A case was lodged at Mahalunge MIDC Police Station under IPC Sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), 34 (common intention), and Section 30 of the Arms Act.

Arms smuggler arrested with 8 pistols & ammunition
Indore: In a major crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the crime branch of Indore police on Saturday arrested a smuggler from Barwani and seized eight country-made pistols with magazines, two live cartridges, and a motorcycle from his possession. Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya said that the accused, 25-year-old Ashok, was apprehended on Rau–Rajendra Nagar Road. Acting on a tip-off, the crime branch team intercepted the suspect and found eight country-made pistols with magazines, two live cartridges, and a motorcycle in his possession. Police said that Ashok was planning to smuggle the illegal weapons from Barwani and supply them in Indore city. During questioning, he confessed to bringing the firearms concealed in a white plastic sack with the intention of making quick money. He claimed to be unemployed and previously worked as a labourer. However, in a bid to earn easy cash, he got involved in arms trafficking. The seized arms were found to be without any valid licences. A case was registered under sections 25(1–AA) and 27 of the Arms Act at Indore crime branch police station. The police took Ashok in remand and are interrogating him further to identify his associates involved in the arms racket. Based on his revelations, action will also be initiated against others found to be involved in the illegal trade. This arrest is part of an ongoing campaign launched by senior police officials in Indore to clamp down on illegal arms trafficking across the district.

3 associates of jailed smuggling kingpin Jugraj held in Amritsar, arm recovered
Amritsar: The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Border Range Amritsar, on Saturday claimed to have arrested three associates of the jailed kingpin Jugraj Singh and recovered six sophisticated foreign-made weapons, allegedly smuggled from across the border, from their possession. Gaurav Yadav, director general of police, Punjab, in a release, said those arrested have been identified as Rajan, a resident of Bhagtanwala Gate in Amritsar; Paramjit Singh, a resident of Heer Hall in Ghannupur, Amritsar; and Dinesh Kumar, a resident of Naraingarh, Amritsar. The ANTF recovered two Glock 19X pistols (made in Austria), two .30 bore pistols (made in Italy), one .30 bore Star Mark pistol, and one Beretta .30 bore pistol (made in Italy). The police teams also impounded a motorcycle and a scooter, both without registration plates, used to deliver the consignments.
